BoatBuckle's second-generation bow tie-down strap bolts to the frame of your trailer and simplifies the securing and unloading of your boat. It is designed to keep constant tension on the strap and requires minimal ratcheting to secure your load. Instead of always having to find and store a tie-down strap that hooks to the tie-down anchors on the front of your boat, you will find that BoatBuckle's bow strap is always right where you need it. Just pull up on the hook and strap, attach the hook to the bow, and then operate the ratchet several times. No more dealing with extra webbing or looking for the tie-down strap. And when unloading, simply push the release button on the ratchet, free the hook from the bow, and let the strap retract back down into the ratchet.

Installation

This strap comes with the mounting hardware that you'll need to install it. It is recommended that you use anti-seize (LT37616 - sold separately) to ensure that the nut is properly tightened down over the bolt. You can use the included bolt to mount the ratchet directly to the trailer frame or crossmember. If you need to angle the ratchet strap or move it a little farther off the frame, a universal mounting kit (IMF14254 - sold separately) is available.

Note: A bow tie-down should always be used along with a winch strap and a set of transom or gunwale tie-downs. All straps and cables should be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). To determine the maximum load, or break strength, of the strap, simply multiply the WLL by 3. The WLL is always one-third (1/3) of the maximum load.

  • How to Choose the Correct Tie-Down for a Boat and Trailer
When choosing tie-down straps like the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Tie-Down Strap, # IMF14220, you will want to keep a few things in mind. Boat tie-downs are designed for normal highway driving. The purpose of most boat tie-downs is to strap the lightest object to the heaviest object, meaning you will want to choose a tie-down with a break strength that exceeds the weight of the lightest object. For example, if your boat weighs 4,000 lbs and your trailer weighs 2,000 lbs, you will want to...

  • How To Choose the Correct BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Ratcheting Tie-Downs
In order to secure your 1994 Regal Ventrua 6.8 with the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps you will need to use one tie down at the bow and two tie downs at the transom. For this you will need both part # IMF14220 and part # IMF08893. This will give you a break strength rating of 7,500 lbs (2,500 lbs per tie down) therefore will be sufficient. We also have the Mounting Brackets part # IMF14254 if the tie down points on the trailer are not where you need them to be. I...

  • Recommended Ratcheting Straps For Transom Of 3,000-Lb Boat
The strap you came from, part # IMF14220 is 2-inches wide and 43-inches long. This has a maximum load limit of 2,500-lbs. This is sold individually so you will need to adjust the quantity when ordering. For transom straps that are a bit longer I recommend for your boat trailer are part # EM34423. These straps are 2-inches wide and 5-1/2 ft long. These straps have a 4,000-lb maximum load capacity. There are 2 straps in the package.

  • Transom Strap Recommendation for Boat Trailer Carrying 10,000 lb Boat
What's really interesting about boat straps like the # IMF14220 is that while they do secure the boat, which in your case is pretty heavy, the amount of weight capacity needed is really the weight of the trailer since basically you need the strap to keep the boat connected to the trailer in an emergency. This strap kit would be what I recommend for you. It has a break strength of 2,500 lbs per strap which would be more than enough for the weight of your trailer.

  • For Boat Tie Down Straps, Does Breaking Strength Combine For Multiple Straps?
Good question. In this case we can use the breaking strength of both straps together. For example the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Straps # IMF14220 have a break strength of 2,500 lbs per strap. So you could use two of these to secure a boat to a 5,000 trailer and so on.

  • Installing BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Strap on Trailer
The BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Strap # IMF14220 that you referenced is primarily designed to install by drilling right into the trailer frame or crossmember like what you saw in the video. You would just use the included bolt and nut to secure it into place. This is definitely what I recommend doing as it offers a much simpler setup without the potential for various other pieces/brackets to become damaged or worn over time. When installing the ratchet in this manner...

  • Are Transom Straps Necessary on 16 Foot 1,200 Pound Boston Whaler Super Sport
From what I have found, the general consensus is that at least 3 straps should be used for a boat with the weight and size of your Boston Whaler Super Sport. Since you already have a bow strap you will want to add transom straps. I recommend the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893. These heavy-duty ratchet straps will secure the stern of your boat to the trailer. They are simple to hook up and permanently mount to your trailer. These straps have a break...

  • Safe Working Load For Transom Tie Downs
The BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Strap - Steel - 43" Long - 833 lbs - Qty 1 # IMF14220 has a break strength rated individually. This has a break strength of 2,500 lbs but a safe working load limit of 833 lbs. You want to stay in the working load limit of the strap and not the break strength because that is the worst case scenario not the ideal. The safe working load limit is the safe zone you want to stay in so for 1600 lbs you would want 2 of these straps and for...

  • Installation of BoatBuckle G2 Ratcheting Tie-Downs on Shoreland'r Trailer for Lund Angler SS
You can still install the tie-downs, but since the installation hardware used for the BoatBuckle G2 Tie-Downs # IMF14220 is 3/8 inch in diameter, the 1 inch transom strap holes on your trailer will be too large to install these tie-downs. The best solution to installing the # IMF14220 is to drill a new hole to match the size of the BoatBuckle installation hardware. That's exactly correct. Both G2 ratchet straps are identical with identical mounting hardware. The # IMF08893 includes a pair of straps for use on the boat's transom, and the # IMF14220 includes one strap for use at the bow. To see product demonstration videos, click the provided links.

the BoatBuckle G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Bow Tie-Down Strap - Steel - 43" Long - 833 lbs - Qty 1 # IMF14220 has a 2500lb max load limit for each strap, and a working load limit of 833lbs each. Since these straps are not going to be holding the entire weight of your boat, you will be just fine using them to help secure your 3100lb boat. • Would 2,400 lb Rated Transom Straps Have Capacity for a 2,800 lb Boat
Yes, if you used two transom straps that had a break strength of 2,400 lbs your 2,800 lb trailer would be secure. What's interesting is that the weight of the trailer is actually more what the strap would be forced to bare the weight of in the event of an emergency as that's what the boat would actually be lifting with the trailer.

  • Can Single Transom Strap Secure Lighter Weight Aluminum Trailer
Ideally you'd want to fix your setup so that both transom straps can be used. In the meantime running a single transom strap would be your best option. While a strap like the part # IMF14220 would have the needed capacity for what you are wanting to do I'd be worried the single attachment point on both the trailer and the boat wouldn't have the capacity.

  • Is BoatBuckle Transom Tie Down Suitable for a Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 TX at 1,300 Pounds
Transom tie downs # IMF14256 have a break strength of 1,500 pounds and working load limit of 500 pounds. What this means is that it can have up to 500 pounds on it constantly and be fine. It is not really supporting the whole boat weight and you are likely using other tie downs, a winch cable, and so on so the transom tie downs will be adequate. If you are not using additional tie downs I do recommend it; such as # IMF14220.

The thought process is reversed for this and you're essentially trying to strap the trailer to boat, which is typically going to weigh more than the trailer.
