Are All Of The Metal Parts On The BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Tie-Downs Stainless Steel
Updated 04/11/2017 | Published 04/09/2017 >
Question:
Retractable transom strap IMF14256 says stainless steel construction, but a retractable strap contains a coil spring and a clock spring and other small parts. I want to be sure stainless construction refers to all the metal components not just the frame. Im particularly concerned because while there are orderable stainless coil springs, a stainless clock spring Is a custom made product. Since the springs are the thinnest steel in the retractor, they will rust out first. Also, since the steel is aptly named stain-less not stain-free, are repair parts available or it it a throw-away?

Expert Reply:
I called my contact at BoatBuckle and asked about the G2 Retractable, Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps # IMF14256.
They told me the faceplate and springs in the tie-downs are stainless steel and the vinyl coated S-hook is stainless as well. The other internal parts are corrosion resistant. The replaceable parts for these tie-downs are the springs.
