  The 4.8 x 8 tires like # AM30060 are 4.7 inches wide and use a 3-3/4 inch wide wheel. For a wider tire I recommend the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 - Load Range C # AM10012. This tire is 5.9 inches wide. This tire will be 18 inches diameter when inflated and is rated for 910 lbs at 75 psi. This tire will not only be wider but will almost be 2 inches taller raising your trailer by about 1 inch. For any other tire, you would also need to replace the wheel.

The largest pilot hole I have for that size wheel and tire is from Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM30060 . The pilot diameter is 2.8". It's a 4.00-8 Non Radial Trailer Tire and has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. I do have a 12 inch tire with a pilot hole measuring 3.19" # AM30580. If you have a fender you may have to remove it for it to fit.

  Kenda tire and wheel combo # AM30060 is a great option as long as the weight capacity is enough for the gross trailer weight. One of these tire and wheel combos is rated for 745 pounds at 90 psi. So for 2 of them on a single axle that would be a total capacity of 1,490 pounds. The center pilot hole is 2.8 inches in diameter and it has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern.   I do have an option for you but it doesn't look like you have room for larger tires without modifications and that's how you'll obtain a higher speed rating. That said, we do offer wheel/tire combos in the size you need with a slightly higher speed rating of 65 mph, the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel part # AM30060 is what I recommend.   For your log splitter wheel and tire combination, the pilot hole in the center will be much larger than the hub center. This is not an issue as the wheel will bolt to the hub and be centered based on the lug studs and lug nuts. All trailer spindles will have the single nut holding that wheel bearing in place as you stated.   Unless otherwise stated all specialty trailer tires are rated at 65 miles per hour. This is the max miles per hour this tire can sustain due to the excess heat build up that will occur if you go any faster. I would not recommend exceeding that speed for any length of time. If you look at the picture below where the # AM30060 tire diameter was measured you can see that the wheel is approximately 9" across.
