Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Replacement Size 5.70-8 Trailer Tires
In order to find the correct tires for your trailer, we will also want to take wheel bolt pattern into consideration. All of the 5.70-8 size tires that we carry have either a 4 on 4 bolt pattern or a 5 on 4-1/2 pattern. I have attached a help article on finding your wheel bolt pattern for you. If your trailer has a maximum weight capacity of 850 pounds, even if you'll be carrying less weight, with your size tire you will want to use a Load Range B tire. The Load Range B 5.70-8 size tires...

  • Replacement for 5.70-8 Bias Ply Load Range B Trailer Tire with 4 Bolt Wheel
The trailer tire size you have of 5.70-8 is actually still in production today and easily replaceable. The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10010 will be an excellent option for this. That said, by the time you pay to have the old tire dismounted and the new tire mounted it will end up being more cost effective to just get a new pre-mounted wheel/tire combo, the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel part # AM30080.

  • Replacement 5.70-8 Tire and Wheels for Taylor Dunn Burden Carrier
The Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer tire with 8 Inch White Wheel will work well as a replacement tire for your burden carrier based on the information outlined in the manual. All of the wheels we offer in this size have a solid center wheel, not a spoke wheel. If you need a wheel with a 4 on 4 inch wheel bolt pattern, you will want to use part # AM30080. If you need a wheel with a 5on 4-1/2 inch wheel bolt pattern, you will want to use # AM30100. If you only need a tire with no wheel,...

  • Availability of Replacement 5.70 x 8 Wheels/Tires for Jayco Eagle
We do indeed carry wheel/tire combos that feature a 5.7x8 tire on a steel 8 inch by 3-3/4 inch steel wheel with a 4 lug on 4 inch bolt circle. If that's the tire and wheel size currently used on your Jayco Eagle, you'd choose the wheel/tire below that offers the proper capacity. For a load range B with a 715 lb capacity per tire at 50 psi, use part # AM30080 For load range C with a 910 lb capacity per tire at 75 psi, use # AM30120 I've linked you to some FAQ articles about trailer tires...

  • Looking for 81MPH Speed Rated Tire to Replace 5.70-8 Tire
The Kenda # AM30080 carries a 65 mph speed rating, the same as all the 5.70-8 size tires we carry. You won't find an M (81mph) rated tire until you go up to a 12 inch tire like a 5.30-12 # TTWSF53012C which is 3-1/2 inches larger in diameter which would move the tire 1-3/4 inches closer to the underside of the fender or wheel well. Measure your current wheel well clearance, and subtract 1-3/4 inches. If this leaves 3-4 inches of wheel well/fender clearance you should be okay. For a compatible...
