Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

  • Availability of Tires That Fit 8" x 3-3/4" Wheels
We do have tires that will fit the Steel Trailer Wheel - 8" x 3-3/4" Rim - 4 on 4 - White # AM20001. You can use either a 4.80/4.00-8 tire or 5.70-8 tire. If you're replacing tires on your trailer I recommend choosing one that matches the size of your current tire. The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 # AM10013 and the Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80/4.00-8 - Load Range C # AM10004 will both work with this wheel. The # AM10013 is a load range D tire with a maximum capacity of...

  • What Does 5.70 and 8 Mean On a 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
In regards to a 5.70-8 tire, the 5.70 represents the width of the tire which is 5.7" wide and the 8 represents the diameter of the wheel the tire is designed to fit which is 8" diameter. If you are needing a replacement, the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire is what I recommend and is offered in a load range B part # AM10010, load range c part # AM10012, and load range d part # AM10013. Assuming you have clearance, there are a few other options for tire sizes that will fit an 8" diameter which...

  • Recommendation For A 5.7-8 Trailer Tire That Is Rated For Faster Than 65 MPH
From my research and our available inventory, the maximum speed rating for a 5.70-8 trailer tire like Item # AM10013 is 65 mph. I do not know what your current tires are rated for but they might say somewhere on the sidewall. For example, an "L" rating has a maximum speed of 75 mph and an "M" rating has a maximum speed of 81 mph. Whatever the speed rating, do not exceed it because it will cause heat to build up in your tire which can cause it to fail. Radial tires are generally better...

  • What Is The Speed Rating Of The Kenda 5.70-8 Wheel and Tire Combination AM30120?
The Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range C # AM30120 you were looking at nor any of the 5.70-8 tires available come with a M speed rating of 81 MPH and instead are all rated to 65 MPH. A Load Range D tire is an 8-ply tire and will be able to carry a heavier load than a load range C, 6-ply, tire. The # AM30120 you were looking at is indeed a 6-ply tire with a load rating of 910lbs at 75 PSI. If you were needing a heavier duty tire you would need a load...

  • Recommended Trailer Tires Size 5.70 x 8 for Highway Speeds
The only 5.70 x 8 sized tire we carry that is a Load Range D is the Kenda K353 # AM10013. It's a bias tire with a maximum capacity of 1,075 at 100 psi. The maximum speed rating on this tire is 65 mph. I don't know what your current tires are rated for but they might say somewhere on the tire's sidewall. You will want to stay within the speed rating. Exceeding it will cause the tire to heat up more than it should which can cause the tire to fail. Radial tires are generally better for...

  • Can Trailer Tires be Downsized from 5.70-8 to 4.80-8 on a Fishing Boat Trailer
Both the 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tire, like # AM10002 that you selected, and the 5.70-8 Trailer Tire, like # AM10010, are designed to fit on 8 x 3-3/4 inch rims, so the smaller tires will mount on your rims. The problems come with weight capacity. The 4.80-8 trailer tires are only available in load range B and C while your original size tire is available in load range B, C and D. You will need to make sure that the tire you select is capable of carrying the gross weight of your trailer loaded...

  • Can I Upgrade from a 4.800/4.00-8 Tire to a 5.7/8-8 Tire on a Time Out Tent Trailer
You can upgrade to a higher rated tire but the overall diameter will go up 2 inches and typically will end up also have a wider section width. If your trailer can accommodate the larger diameter and width then this is a possible solution for your trailer. Both the 4.80/4.00-8 and the 5.7/8-8 tires will fit a 3-3/4 inch rim width, so a tire like # AM10013 with a load range of D will have an overall diameter of 18 inches when fully inflated and have a section width of 5.8 inches. • Is Larger 5.70-8 Trailer Tire a Better Option to Replace 4.80-8
A larger trailer tire basically wins in every category like you mentioned. Less rolling resistance, less affected by bumps in road for smoother ride quality, and bearings/hub spins less so in theory less wear and tear. So as long as you have room for a larger size it's a great idea. The difference between the two size of 4.80 and 5.70 is two inches of overall diameter. This translates into one less inch of fender clearance since the diameter of a tire is split on either side of the spindle....

  • Can 8" Trailer Wheels Be Upgraded to 10" Trailer Wheels and Fit Widthwise
For your application you need to stick with your 8" wheels, otherwise you're looking at tires with a larger width and will likely rub against the trailer frame as you stated. Unfortunately there aren't any 10" wheels with an offset to give you enough clearance. If you're needing to replace your 8" tire then I recommend checking out the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10013. This is a 5.70-8 size tire with a load range of D (1,075 lbs at 100 psi) and fits 8" x 3-3/4" wheels. Attached...

  • Recommended 8" Tire With load Range D Rating For Wheels With 4.80-8 Tires Currently Installed
I would be happy to help! Since you mentioned that your wheels have the 4.80-8 tires installed they are going to be too narrow to run the 205-60-8 tires you were looking at. Instead I recommend going with the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 - Load Range D # AM10013 which have a load rating of 1075lbs at 100 PSI so they are rated high enough for your Jet Ski Trailer, but you will need to verify the load rating of your wheels and use the lower rating between the wheels and tires....

  • Can a 5.70-8 Tire Replace a 4.80-8 Size Trailer Tire
Yes, a 5.70-8 tire will fit the same rim that a 4.80-8 tire fit. They both are designed to fit 8 inch diameter rims that are 3-3/4 inches wide. The larger tire will end up being 2 inches taller overall so you would end up with 1 inch less of fender clearance vertically. For a tire in this size that would work well you would want the part # AM10013. This is a Load Range D tire with a 1,075 lb capacity at 100 psi. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Benefits of Upgrading to Higher Load Range Tires on Trailer
As you mentioned in your question, upgrading to higher load range tires on your trailer is not going to increase the weight capacity of the trailer itself. However, a higher-rated tire will have the benefit of running a bit cooler when compared to what you currently have mounted. Trailer tire failure is usually caused by excessive heat and the best way to prevent this is by observing the tires' rated weight capacity, speed rating and psi pressure. Using a tire that can handle more weight...

  • Comparing a 5.30x12 and 5.70x8 Trailer Tire
A 5.30x12 tire such as part # AM10064 is around 21.7" diameter x 5.3" wide whereas a 5.70x8 tire such as part # AM10013 is around 18.1" diameter x 5.7" wide. Therefore, the new tire will be 3.6" taller x .5" narrower than the one you have now. You only need to account for half of each measurement for clearance. I have attached a list of our 5.30x12 tires for you as well.

  • Replacement 5.70-8 Tires for a Taylor Dunn B36 Electric Industrial Cart
If you just wanted to get the tires and not replace the wheels you can use # AM10013. This is a 5.70-8 tire, load range D, with a capacity of 1,075 pounds at 100 psi. Four of these will have a capacity of 4,300 pounds so they can handle the 3500 pound total of the cart when fully loaded. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. This is because trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall to handle more vertical load. • Replacement Trailer Tires for a Boat Trailer with 4.80/4.00-8 Tires
First, bigger tires require that you have enough clearance around the existing tires on the trailer for the larger size. You will need to determine how much space there is available before going to a larger tire. Also going to larger tires will not increase the capacity of the trailer. The tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour (unless otherwise stated on the tires). Trailer tire # AM10004 that you have referenced would be your best option if you stay with the same tire size....

I wonder if you possibly aren't measuring from the correct location to determine the width of your trailer rims. If you are including the lips of the wheels you may actually have 3-3/4 inch wide rims and we would have a replacement that would work for you. Check out the picture I attached to see where you are supposed to measure. If you do have a 3-3/4 inch wide rim I would recommend the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10013.
