Rough roads and constant bumps can take out a regular bulb fast. This light uses a Vibar socket that absorbs road shock and vibration to protect the filament and extend bulb life. Even with an incandescent 168 bulb, it stays steady and reliable when towing over uneven ground.
Installing this light is straightforward. It surface mounts flat against the trailer using standard hardware, with a 3-1/4" center-to-center spacing between mounting holes. Only a small opening is needed for wiring, and the single-wire design grounds through the mounting hardware—no extra ground wire to deal with.
For clear license plate visibility, the light uses a replaceable incandescent 168 bulb that puts out a consistent glow at just 0.35 amps on 12V DC power. It meets visibility needs without drawing much current, keeping things simple for older wiring setups or basic trailer systems.
Every part of this light is made to last. The ABS housing resists impact and wear, while the clear screw-on polycarbonate lens protects the bulb. Inside, stainless steel and tinned-brass components fight corrosion so it stays working even after years outdoors.
At just 4" long, 1-3/4" wide, and 2-1/4" thick, this rectangular light fits neatly wherever you need license plate illumination. Its small footprint makes it easy to position without blocking other lights or hardware while still throwing bright, even coverage across your plate.

Today we're taking a look at a Peterson license plate light. Now this unit mounts to your trailer and illuminates the license plate. It contains one incandescent bulb, bulb number is 168, and that is replaceable if and when needed. The base, which is this black portion here, this is made from a durable steel construction and it has a nice powder-coated finish on it to help resist rust and corrosion, housing, which is the gray portion, that's plastic. It's a single wire design so that your power wire and then it grounds through the mounting hardware. Mounting hardware not included.
It is department of transportation compliant. We're going to go over a few measurements real quick and then we'll hook up the power that way you can see what it looks like with some power running to it. The mount holes on the unit are separated apart from one another on center by three and a half inches. Edge to edge, the base measures 4 inches by about 1 and 5/8 inches.And then from the very back of the unit to the very front of the unit gives us an overall depth of about 2 and 1/4 inches. All right, we're going to go and hook it up the power.
We'll also turn off our overhead light so you can see it in a low-light setting. So here you can see the light sends out a nice consistent signal. Again, we have light that shines at a downward angle, which will illuminate a license plate mounted directly below this light. And it contains a total of one bulb, and again that is an incandescent bulb that is replaceable. One more time, bulb number is 168.

This is exactly the same product as my old one that was on my Horton horse trailer, I just have to get someone to hook it up as I am not a electrician. I don't want to mess anything up.

The light I received was missing the white ground wire that appeared in the product photos. I jury-rigged by grounding to the metal connector plate inside. Works. Mounting holes didn't line up to my original but wasn't surprised. Just had to drill a couple holes.
The license plate light arrived in great condition, packing was very secure. It was just as advertised. It was exactly like my old light which was original equipment on my motor home. Fit was perfect. Thanks !

Its still working fine and looks like new.
Nice replacement light fixture. Thought I had a bad ground and it turned out bulb was bad. Looked good but should of replaced it before I spent hours looking for bad ground.
The product was ok, typical modern cheap made, it just what our standards are i suppose. The customer service was great, helpful, easy to order. The only real complaint i have is they use USPS, i dont remember if it gave the option to use another shipping company or not, but here lately USPS is terrible, takes a lot longer to receive through USPS. To the point that if there is not an option to choose another shipper, id likely buy someplace else. It blows my mind when they tell me that it can take up to 14 days, 14 DAYS, REALLY? I have placed orders on items in the UK in less tine than that.
