If you’re upgrading from drum brakes or replacing worn-out assemblies, these 12" Kodiak disc brakes deliver strong, consistent stopping for 5,200- to 6,000-lb axles. The one-piece hub-and-rotor design with ceramic pads and a large stainless steel piston gives smooth, responsive braking that helps eliminate push and pull. Built with automotive-grade components, these brakes keep performance reliable mile after mile.

Saltwater, slush, and coastal air can destroy unprotected metal fast. These brakes are made to handle it. The hub-rotors and brackets use Dacromet coating rated for 300- to 400-hour salt spray protection, while the calipers feature a blue KodaGuard coating rated for 500- to 600-hour resistance. That combination keeps rust at bay even with frequent exposure to water—perfect for long-term durability in tough environments.

When brakes overheat on long grades or heavy hauls, performance fades fast. The vented rotors on this kit pull heat away from the pads to maintain consistent braking power. The one-piece hub-and-rotor setup also keeps out water and debris that can cause uneven wear or corrosion between surfaces. It’s a practical design that helps extend pad life and reduce maintenance time.

This kit includes two Dacromet-plated cast iron hub-and-rotor assemblies, two KodaGuard-coated calipers, mounting brackets, bearings (25580 inner, 15123 outer), races (25520 inner, 15245 outer), oil seals, oil caps, synthetic bearing oil, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. With the right actuator rated at 1,500 psi or above and brake lines (sold separately), you’ll have everything required to convert one axle to powerful hydraulic disc braking.
These Kodiak brakes are engineered for lasting performance with sturdy materials and corrosion-resistant finishes throughout. Rated for #42 spindles and wheels 15" and larger with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and 1/2" wheel bolts, they’re backed by a 3-year warranty for added peace of mind.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Kodiak 12 Inch Hub and Rotor Disc Brake assembly set. So this is going to allow you to upgrade your trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes so you can take advantage of all the benefits of disc brakes. The two brake assemblies here are going to allow you to replace the brakes on a single axle with a capacity range of between 5,200 pounds and 6,000 pounds. That has the number 42 spindles on it. Our rotor is 12 inches in diameter and you can see we've got the six on five and a half inch bolt pattern.
So these are going to work with your wheels that are 15 inches and larger. So upgrading from drum breaks to disc brakes is going to have several benefits. It is going to help dramatically shorten your stopping distance. It's also going to provide smoother, more controlled braking. So it's gonna keep your trailer from pushing and pulling as you're probably used to experiencing with your drum brakes.
These do have ceramic brake pads that are going to help increase your stopping power and it's kind of hard to see, but up here at the top, we are gonna have a large two and a quarter inch diameter stainless steel piston that's gonna provide fast, responsive breaking for you. So in addition to better performance, these are also going to require less maintenance. There's fewer parts that could fail for you than with your drum breaks. Gonna be less to have to maintain to tighten frequently and that sort of thing. So these are pretty maintenance free so it's gonna save you time and money.
Having the one piece hub and rotor assembly is gonna reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear. We also have the vented design that's gonna help dissipate your heat faster to prevent premature brake pad wear. And these are a high quality automotive grade construction so they are gonna be very long lasting. Our hub and rotor have the Dacromet finish on them as well as the mounting bracket on the backside here. So that's going to offer excellent rust and erosion resistance.
And these do have a 300 to 400 hour salt spray rating with that coating on them. And then our calipers are gonna have the coat guard coating and that's gonna provide 500 to 600 hours of salt spray rating. So these are gonna be a great option for your boat trailers or trailers that are used in coastal areas or in heavily treated roads where there's gonna be a lot of contact with salt. These will hold up really well for you. So the one caveat with disc brakes is that they are gonna require a higher line pressure than your standard standard drum breaks. So you're gonna need a hydraulic brake actuator and brake lines that are rated at 1500 PSI or higher in order to activate your brakes. So if you don't already have those, we do sell those separately here at etrailer.com. So this kit isn't going to include everything that you need if you don't already have brake lines and an actuator that are rated at 1500 PSI. But it is going to include the two Dacromet plated cast iron hub and rotor assemblies with the six pre-installed half inch wheel bolts on each one as well as the 12 half inch zinc plated steel lug nuts that you're gonna need to make sure that your wheel stays in place. We're also gonna get the two coat guard coated cast iron calipers as well as the two Dacromet plated ductile iron caliper mounting brackets. So you can see these do have the five bolt brake flange configuration so it's gonna be very easy to get mounted onto your axle. I do wanna note that I do have these on top for demonstration purposes but when you actually go to install them, they're gonna be on the side so that's going to put the weight on the mounting bracket instead of on the bolt so it's gonna help your hardware hold up longer and last you a nice long time. I just have these up here to help me balance them a little bit better than they could on the side but when you actually install them, they'll be on the side there. In addition to the calipers and the brackets, we are gonna get the stainless steel mounting bolts on the backside here that are going to attach those two. And we're also going to get our inner and outer bearings. Those are going to obviously make sure that everything's rotating properly around our axle and will fit into the races that are inside pre-installed. We've got our inner and outer races. You can see all those part numbers on the screen there so if you have any questions you can look those up but very simple process there. And then we're also going to have our oil kits. So we've got our oil seals that are gonna be on the inside. These have a 2.25 inch inner diameter and a 3.376 outer diameter. Our cap is going to have a 2.44 inch outer diameter. And then we're also going to get one eight ounce bottle of synthetic bearing oil to make sure that everything is operating nice and smoothly. So this is gonna be a great kit for upgrading if your axle. Currently has the drum brakes installed on it. This is going to give you better performance, require less maintenance, and it's gonna hold up really well with that Dacromet finish on there. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

These brakes have turned out well for me, as expected. They are so much more reliable and maintenance free than my old drum brakes. Make the changeover - pretty sure youll be glad you did.

Glad you like it, Scott! Since you said salt water launches, what kind of boat do you have? We had a 14' Boston Whaler growing up and that thing was pretty cool. Until we took it from one bay to another during heavy seas in San Diego. I think every one of us ended up getting sick that trip.
