Features to know about

Built for Wet and Salty Conditions: Galvanized, Marine-Grade Protection

Constant dunking and salt spray can destroy ordinary brake parts fast. These Demco 10" x 2-1/4" hydraulic drum brakes use galvanized backing plates, stainless steel springs, and zinc-plated wheel cylinders to stand up to water and corrosion. They’re marine-grade assemblies rated for axles up to 3,500 lbs and fit 14" to 15" wheels, making them ideal for boat or snowmobile trailers that see plenty of moisture and road salt.

Back Up Smoothly Without Brake Lockup: Free-Backing Design

If your surge actuator doesn’t have a reverse lockout, these brakes make backing up simple. The free-backing setup uses a spring system that overrides the brake cylinder when you reverse, keeping the shoes from catching on the drums. No dragging or wheel lockup—just smooth, easy movement when you need to back down a ramp or into a tight spot.

Reliable Stopping and Long Pad Life: Semi-Metallic Riveted Pads

Frequent stops can wear out lesser pads quickly. The semi-metallic shoes on these assemblies are riveted to the brake shoes for added strength and durability. This design makes them less likely to warp or crumble under heat and pressure, giving you solid braking performance and longer service life.

Simple Fit with Standard Mounting: Direct Bolt-On Assemblies

These hydraulic drum brakes are built to match most standard hub-and-drum setups including Dexter and Lippert (LCI). The 4-bolt mounting flange has a 2-3/4" spacing between holes (4" diagonally), so they bolt right up with no redrilling or modifications. Each kit includes both left-hand and right-hand assemblies with adjuster plugs to keep dirt out of the mechanism.

Easy Maintenance for Consistent Braking: Manual-Adjust Setup

Keeping brakes properly adjusted makes all the difference in how they stop. Each assembly includes access plugs so you can fine-tune the star gear with a flathead screwdriver or brake adjustment tool. A quick manual adjustment keeps your trailer braking smoothly and evenly season after season.

Perfect fit, I had them installed in 20 minutes. Super fast delivery.

by:

After launching my boat, my left trailer wheel with drum brakes started locking up on my 2005 boat trailer. Thus, I decided to replace all brake and hub assemblies including both backing plates. I found all parts online from etrailer.com, and it was an easy repair.

I contemplated changing from drum to disc brakes at this time and get rid of the heavy hubs. However, I would have to replace the drum brake actuator with a higher pressure disc brake actuator, and I would have to run a wire to the reverse lights to keep the disc brakes from engaging when backing uphill.

by:

Perfect fit for the trailer and works as described; able to back freely. Thanks etrailer!

by:

Excellent service and knowledgeable staff great to deal with even
when I ordered the wrong item (my fault tried to be to cheap) there customer’s service team helped me get it right.!

Thanks for the fast shipping!

by:

Great replacement. Took off the old crud and cleaned up the mount. The new assembly bolted right on.

Before you purchase this "kit", check the individual prices for each side. After my purchase, I checked the individual prices and they were LESS than what I paid for the kit which included both sides. I had paid extra for quicker shipping. That did not happen, so Etrailer did refund my extra shipping costs. I did leave messages to two separate employees about the pricing problem, but received no response. The backing plates did install easily and do work well, as the only snag to the installation was that the last set they sold me had mounting studs, not bolts. So if you have no bolts on hand, you just need to tap out the old studs and drill the holes in the backing plate a hair larger and the old studs will work just fine. Even though these are marine grade, give them a very thorough rinse after being in salt water, because even with a good rinsing the salt will tear them up pretty quickly.

Awe yeah, that does sound like a pain. First off, let me go ahead and get that extra shipping cost refunded back to you. As for the pricing, it looks like the pricing doesn't seem to add up due to the prices changing regularly for the individual parts. I have informed the proper department to look more into this and see what we can do to get it corrected for the future.

E-Trailer was very quick to get order shipped and lauren was excellent in customer service The only downfall was postal service was a little slow not bad but a little slow

by:

I bought these right and left hydraulic brake assemblies for my boat trailer at a great price. I received my order one day earlier than promised. Etrailer.com really rocks to satisfy it’s customers. They provided an awesome tracking link for me to review my order’s shipping progress. This is the best tracking link that have ever experienced. Both complete brake assemblies fitted perfectly in place of my old assemblies. On each Brake assembly, I just had to remove the 4 mounting bolts from the axle flange and the hydraulic hose. Then install the new complete brake assembly, tighten the 4 mounting bolts and makeup the hydraulic hose.. This made this brake job a breeze! It was a pleasure doing business with you.
Thanks Etrailer.com!

First trip found them to be smooth in operation. did not jam on at the last minute like the old ones did. THANKS etrailer.

2000 ez loader trailer complete brake job. 2 axle torsion suspension. All 4 axles . I ordered 4 complete brake /backing plate assemblies and 4 new hubs. My complete order showed up on time afew days later. After I got the trailer and boat jacked up and started to take things apart I overlooked not ordering the transitional flexible brake lines that go from the hard lines into the back of the brake assembly. After traveling for 30 minutes to a hydraulic brake line shop to have lines made up they told me they did not have the fittings I really needed these lines to get this job done for the weekend to get the boat out on the water. So I called etrailer and was connected to Tiffany who I must say provided the best customer service I've ever experienced she worked with me on getting the correct items and set up next day rush shipping. She even personally made sure that my order got out the door and called me personally to let me know . There aren't too many companies that goes to that length to serve their customers. The next day at 10 a.m. the were delivered to my front door. (From half way across the United States ) . I was trilled to say the least. Thank you etrailer and a special thank you to Tiffany. In customer service for your personal attention and follow up regarding my order.

The complete brake and line replacements our working great 1 year later. And I put alot of miles on my trailer both to salt water and fresh water.

by:

Bolted right on and after a quick brake fluid flush we were ready to go. Galvanized was the way to go for sure. Nice and heavy duty!

by:

We purchased these parts for a custom build trailer for hauling heavy tool boxes over steep grades. Since completion of the build about a year ago, we have been using it and put a lot of miles on it. The hydraulic surge brake system makes it worry free. We can tow it behind different vehicles of differing weights and wheel bases and not worry about setting trailer braking, it is very nice. We will continue to use etrailer for our trailer needs.

Hey John, I just did some work on my own jet ski trailer so it sounds like we're in the same boat! Those Zieman trailers use a 3,500lb axle, whether its a single axle or tandem axle trailer. I recommend # 40716-15, Demco Hydraulic Brakes, for your trailers. They are going to work with most standard hub and drum assemblies on a 3,500lb axle and they are marine grade brakes which are going to be great for your jet ski trailers. This kit is going to work with both trailers, and they come...

They are both designed for a boat trailer because of their corrosion resistance, but the better option is the Demco # 40716-15. The reason for that is because they are free-backing brakes, which means you can back up without the brakes engaging,...
