Built for RVs

Swagman XP 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack

The Swagman XP is built to withstand the added vibration and stress that comes from being installed on the back of your RV. The base has no moving parts, and the mast attaches to the shank with steel-reinforced brackets. These overbuilt components ensure that the rack can take any punishment that the road may inflict.

Individual Rotating Cradles

Swagman XP 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Anti-Sway Cradles

The rack has cradles that secure your bikes by the top tube, down tube, or seat tube. Each cradle rotates to ensure your bikes hang level on the rack, reducing the risk of ground clearance issues. You can also adjust the spacing of each cradle to help keep your bikes from bumping into each other.

Swagman XP 4-bike Hanging-Style Rack Anti-Sway Cradles

Soft rubber padding inside each cradle protects your bikes from scratches and scuffs. The padding has grooves on the surface that prevent your brake and shifter cables from getting pinched.

Threaded Hitch Pin and Hitch Adapter

Swagman Titan threaded hitch pin

A threaded hitch pin is included to help eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. It fits the threaded hole at the end of the shank. To tighten the pin in your hitch, use a 5/8" wrench (not included). Clips are also included to keep each pin in place.

Swagman Titan 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Hitch Adapter

You can install the rack in a 1-1/4" hitch or in a 2" hitch. To use it in 2" hitch, simply remove the adapter with the included Allen key.

Bike Security

Swagman Titan 2-Bike cable lock

A lock on the hand knob secures your bikes to the rack. Once locked, the hand knob will spin freely so a would-be thief can't operate it.

Swagman Original threaded hitch pin

An anti-rattle hitch lock (sold separately) is available to secure the rack to your vehicle.

Available Adapter Bar

Swagman Bike Adapter Bar

If you have a women's bike, kid's bike, or any other bike without a straight, horizontal top tube, you will need an adapter bar (sold separately) to properly mount your bike. The bar fits between the seat post and handlebar stem post of your bike to create a top tube so your bike hangs level on the rack.

So far, so good. I just received this last week and installed it on the back of my fifth wheel. We have four bikes (2 adult bikes and two kids bikes), and fitting all four of the bikes on the racks took some creativity but it was possible. The rack seems very sturdy, but we will see if it stands the test of time as we are full-time RVers who travel about 6,000 miles per year. Our last bike rack (Swagman XTC4) was completely worn out after about 14,000 miles of use on the back of our fifth wheel.

After one year, this bike rack is still performing very well on the back of our fifth wheel. We have travelled over 5,000 miles with our bikes in tow, and it still looks and operates like brand new. I was able to make four full-size bicycles fit on it, but you have to be creative.

How is your hitch fastened to your fifth wheel?

B. B.

1/13/2016

In response to Richard N., we had a 2 hitch receptacle installed on the rear of our fifth wheel when we ordered it from the factory. The bike rack is installed by sliding it into the hitch receptacle.

I hate this bike rack. For a heavy is at it, 40 lbs, it is junk, wobbles and moves around like crazy. If you need an overpriced boat anchor, this will fit the bill. Better to cut the rope when you leave it. Terrible tolerances. I bought the chincy locking ring they want to sell you and it did absolutely nothing. Don't put a nice bike on it because you'll be sorry. Honestly I try to avoid etrailer whenever possible at this point. Why can a hitch fit well but this is really undersized and the fit it terrible

This rack is definitely an economical choice but not the best quality. I have a style of this rack and I have to make sure I tighten down the bolt that comes with bike rack in the hitch to make sure it doesnt wobble all over the place. If you dont tighten it down with a wrench it will wobble.

by:

Works good can be a little hard to get first bike on but if it’s a full size bike it works fine

by:

Once again, etrailer's service was superb. The hitch arrived very quickly, packaging was in good shape when it arrived.
I chose this bike rack because it was one of only a few that are rated for a hitch on the back of a fifth wheel trailer. It is very sturdy and was easy to assemble. As reported in other reviews, the only issue was the threaded clamp knob that secures the bikes to the rack. The one with the lock on it came through with a defective lock mechanism that does not allow the knob to engage. That meant it could not be tightened. Swagman might need to re-evaluate this feature.
I like the idea of the lock, but it is probably better to use the regular knobs without the lock to mount the bikes and then use a bike cable lock to secure them to the vehicle.
I have no concerns about the racks strength or durability.

I have been using this bike rack for a year now, almost always on long distance travel between campgrounds around the US. I have been very happy with it. It rides well and the bikes remain very secure in transit.

After researching the multitude of bike racks available, Pat at etrailer spent over 30 minutes with me on the phone answering my questions about which would be the best rack for our SUV and our particular bike styles. We settled on the Swagman XP 4-bike rack. The cradles are adjustable and be rotated so that the wheels of any bike can be kept parallel to the ground regardless of the angle of the bike frame. It worked as advertised, and I can 100% recommend etrailer as a very reliable source. The people there are interested in helping you, and they deliver. Great company!

Still perfect. Our bike trip last July to Montana and Idaho was a great test of the Swagman bike rack. We had four bikes totaling 80 pounds and had absolutely no issues. With the U brace keeping the rack base tight against the hitch, there was no wobbling at all. A great trip was made better by having the peace of mind provided by a sturdy rack to safely transport our bicycles. Thank you etrailer!

TERRIBLE!!!!! Absolutely terrible!!! First off, the main support does not fit well into the hitch sleeve. The threaded hitch pin does not secure against any movement whatsoever. I had to hammer shims into the gap so the unit would not rock back and forth inside the female hitch port. Without the shims you get to watch your bikes in the Furrion camera rock back and forth for 400 miles at a time. The clamp sleeve just barley secures even the most basic bike frame construction. Most current bikes do not fit in the 4 clamps. I had to modify the top slots where the "T" nut swings into place and bend them down to use the threaded hand wheels. Not to mention that the "T" slot bolts are way too short. Prepare for frame and paint damage on your bikes. Good luck placing the bikes back the same way after securing them. Full on engineering disaster! It will take you 45 mins to load up all 4 bikes each time. If you have a quick 1 day stop you can forget taking the bikes off. Told my kids it was too much trouble undoing the puzzle. All the bikes are pointed all over the place like crooked teeth!! Total and complete piece of junk!!!! If I could give this no stars I would. Avoid at all costs.

For your first issue I recommend getting a wraparound Anti rattle device like item # e99007 which helps to reduce sway and keeps the racks stinger from moving around inside the hitch receiver. As mentioned in the product description for this rack, it accepts bike frames up to 2 inches in diameter. If you have a step-through bike frame or childrens bikes it is recommended to get a bike frame adapter like item # 64005. Other tips that help with this rack is alternating the front of the bikes, putting the biggest bike closest to your vehicle, while the smallest bike is the furthest out, and using the included strap to tightly secure the bikes to the rack like as shown in this attached video:

by:

This was the only bike rack that I could find where my daughter's bike could fit on it securely and without adding a bar. The rack is very stable and is easy to put on and off of my car as needed. I'd like to add that my neighbors have owned this same rack (just an older version) and their rave reviews caused up to research the Swagmann brand. Additionally, e-trailer has been great with communication. Very pleased.

One year later and we are still so glad we bought our Swagmann rack. The ease with how I can put it on and off is wonderful and I use the locking function frequently to keep my bikes safe!

by:

Overall (structurally) it is very well made and appears very sound. However, have 2 comments regarding potential improvements; i.e.:
1) Recommend having the anti-rattle nut feature for the 2" hitch attachment being included at both holes (as shown in the assembly directions included with our bike rack). The one that we got, only has the threaded attachment (anti-rattle feature) at the outer most hole on the 2" square tube. To use this feature, you don't get much hitch engagement, but if you use the inner hole (with more hitch engagement), you have a standard 5/8" pin with lots of play (excessive vibration).
2) Do not recommend the Locking Knob as currently provided. During assembly, we tested it by tightening it down, but could not remove it (even with the key). We needed needle nose pliers to remove, and when disassembled found that the internal locking spindle can lose contact with locking portion when tightened. Since we cannot trust this locking feature, we have ordered two new non-locking knobs; i.e. one for replacement and one as a spare. We also ordered a better locking design to avoid this problem in the future.

I spoke with my contact at Swagman and they confirmed that this rack is designed to only have the hitch pin hole closest to the upright mast threaded for the anti-rattle pin. If you are not interested in having two hitch pin holes or locking feature built into the rack, the Swagman Original # S64400 is a comparable bike rack you may be interested in. A locking cable like the etrailer 10 Foot Long Cable Lock # e98891 is great for securing your bikes to your vehicle.

by:

I've never been so frustrated with a bike rack until now. I have 5 kids bikes, none of them can fit on this thing. Either the bars on the bikes are to fat and you can't close the clamp or the frame is to small to fit over the bottom bracket. I bought the deal that clamps on the handle bars and bike seat for kids bikes, that thing doesn't work either.

It's not just kids bike, my beach cruiser won't fit on the thing, the frame bars are apparently to big to get the clamp closed.

So much wasted time spent on this thing..

If youre looking for a different style bike rack to transport a wide variety of bikes, one great option though at a higher price point, is a rack like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE4 # HR1400Z as it holds your bikes at 3 points and offers adjustability to support kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes.

by:

This is very well made and strong.it Holds bikes very securely.USE: This is on my 5th wheel hitch had no issues. The only Con: is it wont fit most if the beach cruiser thick middle tube framed bikes..and/or the female low curved frames. Very good product. Etrailer also kept me informed on delivery status every step of the way-well done etrailer.

Hi Regan, Thanks for your feedback! In regard to your thicker bike frames, this bike rack fits bikes with frames up to 2 inches in diameter. I would recommend using the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar, part # 64005, in order to fit your bikes onto the bike rack.

by:

Bought this to take the bikes for my family of four on vacation and I have only used it three times in the last 12 months, the most recent just a week ago. I remain completely happy with my purchase. The ability to angle the brackets allows me to easily fit our 4 bikes (adult male, adult female, 12 yr male, 10 yr female). My wife's bike fits okay without an adapter, but my daughter's bike required a bar adapter since the space between her frame would not fit over the brackets.

One thing to note, to get my wife and sons bikes on, I have to remove the brackets for the bikes in front of them. Don't be stubborn, just do this. I scratched the frames putting them on the first time without removing the other brackets, and it ended up taking longer fighting them on. This is because of the way her bike frame is built and his is simply smaller. I am considering buying the bar adapters for them as well just to avoid having to remove the brackets, but we don't really use it enough yet to purchase them. My bike, with the wider frame, goes on quickly and easily.

Tip: Take a picture of how you fit the bikes on! It will save you having to figure it out again the next time.

by:

I purchased the Swagman because I needed a bike rack that was rated for a travel trailer and would take my bike plus three girls' bikes. It took me hours to figure out how to make it work, but I finally got it. It's hard to use and you have to take all the bikes on and off in order. I've since seen better and more easily use-able bike racks and ones that adjusts to fill your tow receiver better (reducing sway). The knob with the key doesn't tighten down or work very well. So I had to place it on an inside bike, allowing me to tighten down the outside bike with the non-keyed knob.

by:

The swagman xp bike rack we purchased did not work well for us. The locking cradle broke shortly after one use. The cradles slide when tightened, and as a result the bikes on the rack are not very secure and move around during a trip. I do not know how 4 bikes would fit on this rack. We have only 2 trail bikes and they were taking up a lot of the space. I did not return the bike rack because it weighted so much and the package would have been very expensive to return.
The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it is made with very sturdy steel construction. i would not purchase again. We went to a local bike shop, spent more money and purchased a Thule which we are very pleased with. Live and learn.....

Ordered this bike rack, the locking / anti rattle / threaded hitch pin, & the adapter for an alternative frame bike.

Very impressed with e-trailer dot com. Price was great. The order shipped quickly & arrived early. It was securely packed.

Did A LOT of research & chose this bike rack as it was one of the few that was approved by the manufacturer for RV use.

The bike rack went together fairly easily. The wife helped me as it was good to have a 2nd set of hands. Hint: I started assembling it on the garage floor but it's easier to do in a hitch insert.

Finally used it on our class C RV this past weekend. All in all, no complaints. The wife was driving behind me & said the bike rack was fairly steady.

Pleased with e trailer dot com & the bike rack!

by:

I bought it primarily to use it on my camper to haul the kids bikes when we go camping. It was a little harder to assemble than I expected it would be but the reason is because you have to position each holder individually for each bike. That slight down fall makes it nice though because each bike will be properly positioned and secured for travel. I bought the model with the factory lock, I'm glad I decided on that model. I'm also glad that it has the anti rattle feature especially going on a camper. The bike rack even works with a spare tire mounted right next to it.

by:

First I want to say etrailer is top notch with customer service and support. The Swagman XP bike rack is sturdy and held up well carrying beach cruisers behind our fifth wheel. Solid product. I did check the pin bolt as others have said they may loosen during travel. After 1000 miles it did start to loosen but I make it part of my pre trip checklist and check it when I stop. The roads were very rough riding. Works exactly as expected. Great product and fantastic customer service.

by:

Well we just tried out the swagman 4 bike hitch this weekend and overall it worked well. We used it on our 2009 flagstaff tent trailer which had a factory installed receiver hitch on the back. We had no problems at all however that being said the hitch does not work really well with bike wheels over 26 it just does not leave enough clearance from the road to the tire. Other than that I would recommend this hitch for use with a tent trailer.

by:

Works well. Would not leave home with a bike rack without it.

Love this rack. No issues.

by:

1st thing-- only buy this unit is your looking for a RV hitch. Forget Yakima, Thule, etc. I have broken two of the other brands!!

Little downside is that this is really a 3 bike rack. Top arm should be 2" longer if you don't want your bicycles banging together.

They should make some changes to the bolts that tighten down the holders, or instead you leave the knobs on other wise you will scratch your bicycles knocking them on the bolts.

by:

Good product and works well on my 5th wheel factory mounted hitch. Had a shipping issue which was addressed immediately. Lexus G. was very helpful during the process. This is my second purchase through etrailer and I will purchase from them again.

by:

Wow this rack is very heavy duty fits the hitch perfectly and fit all 4 of my bikes. It even comes with a stabilizing strap. I bought the Curt E 100 bumper receiver also a perfect inexpensive way to attach the bike rack to my 5th wheel bumper

by:

Great experience. The team at etrailer sent me emails updating me on the status of my order during the shipment process and I'm happy with the quality of my RV seat covers and bike rack. Great value for the price. Thank you etrailer team!!

by:

I was very pleased with my Swagman bike rack. My first trip with it was a 3 1/2 hour drive. I watched the bike rack closely the entire trip and I found that our bikes stayed on the rack perfectly with no movement. I would definitely recommend this bike rack to anyone.

by:

Works perfect. I bought it to put on the back of our camper into a hitch we had installed. It fits around the camper bumper which other ones I tried didn't. We did have to move the spare tire to one side though, still on the bumper, just moved down a little.

No way to put 4 bikes on it without completely stripping them down will not fit most of our kids bikes on them

Can you please elaborate on how the bikes are not fitting on the 4 bike bikerack? You mentioned stripping them down? What exactly do you need to strip down in order for them to fit?

Steve C.

5/6/2022

You would have to take the pedals, handle bars, and possibly the tires off to fit 4 bikes on that rack it is just not long enough to fit 4 on there 3 done just right is pushing it the clamps will not accept most of my kids bikes because the are not big enough to fit the lower frame piece in them and they are too big to get it snuck thru and clamped down on the upper frame piece and the knobs that screw down to clamp them in are junk 2 of the 4 have already came apart and Ive had to make my own clamp nuts to hold the bikes in just really unhappy with it since we got it and it hasnt gotten any better the more weve used it

Thank you so much for your additional information. One thing I suggest that might help with the childrens bikes is, if they have enough room on the stem that holds the seat, an adapter bar part # 64005 may help with the bikes sitting on the rack without needing to strip the bikes down completely. We also recommend making sure that the bikes are alternating on the rack, to try and squeeze a bit more room between clamps. for example, one of them having the handle bars facing the drivers side, then the bike next to that one facing the passenger side, and so on.

We do have options for carrying bikes when towing a fifth wheel trailer, however, we do not carry any bike racks that were specifically designed to carry bikes on the front of a vehicle. This hitch has a 350 pound tongue weight capacity so it will have no problem with a loaded Swagman XP, # S64940. You will need to consult the trailer manual or manufacturer to make sure the bumper is rated for use for weight carrying.

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack for a Frame Mounted Trailer Hitch on a Trailer
There are only certain bike racks that can be used at the back of a trailer or motor home. I have included a link to them for you to view. The 4-bike rack compatible with an RV or trailer that has the most clearance is the Swagman XP, # S64940. If measures 12 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar. I do not recommend using any kind of extension or dual purpose ball mount like # D210. The distance from the rear axle on a trailer or RV and the receiver...

  • Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 4-Bikes on the Back of a Travel Trailer Using Curt Bumper Hitch E-100
There are only certain bike racks that are rated for use on the back of an RV or trailer but the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR is not one of them so I cannot recommend it. But there are several 4-bike racks that are rated for this application. You can use the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This rack is most like the Thule. It features a 2-arm design and anti-sway cradles. It is a sturdy build to handle the riggers of being at the back of a trailer. Other racks that are rated for this...

  • Can the Swagman XP Bike Rack be Used on a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder
The Swagman XP # S64940 that you referenced can definitely be used on vehicles. The RV rating that you see on this rack is related to the fact that is built strong enough to handle the rougher ride that RVs have when compared to passenger vehicles. If you check out the picture I attached you will see this rack being used on a similar Pathfinder as your 2006 model.

  • Trailer Hitch Mount 4-Bike Rack Recommendation for 1 Mens Bike and 3 Girls Bikes
The best solution for carrying 4 bikes, 3 of them with slanted top tubes, is to go with a single arm bike rack that has rotation cradles so that you can carrying the girls bikes level. Take a look at the Swagman XP, # S64940. As far as bike racks go it is about in the middle as far as price. The main benefit is that you can use this rack with girls bikes and not have to use adapters. You could use a 2 arm bike rack like # S63380, but you would also need 3 of the bike adapter bars, # 64005,...

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for an RV Similar to Thule Hitching Post
We have several RV approved bike racks that would work for you, but the Thule Hitching Post part # TH934XTR that you referenced has not been confirmed to work with the much rougher ride present at the rear of an RV so I cannot recommend it for you. The most similar bike rack we offer that would work for you would be the Swagman part # S64940. This rack has been approved for RV use so it would work well for you. Since you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without...

  • Recommended 4 Bike Carrier For Hitch on Rear of 5th Wheel
The Curt # C18087 bike rack isn't designed to be used on the rear of a towable. It's not the strength of the hitch that's in question, it's the bike rack itself. Bike racks used on the rear of a towed trailer are subject to much more battering and bouncing than they'd experience on the rear of a passenger vehicle, and the bike rack needs to be specifically designed for that purpose, or it could come apart during transport which would be bad. This being said, we do offer a 4 bike option...

  • Can etrailer 4-Bike Rack be Locked to Trailer Hitch Receiver
Yes, there is absolutely a way for you to lock the Swagman 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches # S64940. This is a really good idea as it will ensure the rack stays on your vehicle where it belongs, and the only thing that you'll need in order is the Locking Threaded Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin Lock # S64027. This will work as both an anti-rattle device and a lock so the rack will be more stable in your 2" hitch as well as being safe and sound. The only other thing you will want to note is that for...

  • RV-Approved Bike Rack for Use on Small Tear Camper Trailer
Good question indeed. Bike racks made for use on standard passenger cars should NOT be used on rear of any size of trailer. The reason is leverage. On passenger vehicles the rear axle and the hitch where the rack installs are not very far apart. But on a trailer it is often the case that the trailer's axle(s) will be much further away from the hitch. This extra distance, during driving, means additional leverage/stress will be applied to the rack. In the same way that adding length to...

  • How to Carry Four Bikes and Tow Pop-Up Camper
The best option, assuming your pop-up camper is an A-frame, is to use the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier for A-Frame Trailers # CC-275 with the Swagman # S64940. The way it works is the Bike Bunk will get mounted on your A-frame and then the Swagman rack mounts inside the Bike Bunk. The other option is to install a trailer hitch on your camper, the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 72" Wide # 13703 which works on box frames, C-channel...

  • Will the Swagman XP RV Bike Rack for 4 Bikes Clear a Rear Spare Tire
In regards to the Swagman XP RV Bike Rack for 4 Bikes part # S64940, the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright is 14-1/2". I don't have the distance from the hitch pin hole to the first bike as this would vary from bike to bike. That said, you shouldn't have any issues and worse case the bikes make slight contact with the tire or you have to rearrange the spare tire or bike orientation to make work. The only other option really would be to place the spare...

  • Recommended 3 Bike Trunk Mount Rack For A 2020 Buick Enclave
After doing some research The Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack # Y02633 is confirmed to fit your 2020 Buick Enclave. I like this trunk mount bike rack over the others that we offer because the Fullback has supercrush anti-sway cradles with ratcheting zipstrip straps that will hold you bike frame at 3 points to keep it extra secure. When carrying 3 bikes you're limited up to 90 pounds of carrying weight. If you're trying to haul a female or oddly shaped frame bike you also need the Yakima Tube...
