Swagman Around the Spare Deluxe

This convenient rack carries 2 bikes on your RV and provides clearance for a spare tire. Its sturdy steel construction has a black powder coat for corrosion resistance.

Anti-Sway Cradles

Swagman Around the Spare Deluxe Anti Sway Cradles

The anti-sway cradles rotate and slide along the dual arms to perfectly position your bicycles, reducing the need for a bike adapter bar. The cradles include durable rubber straps to hold your bikes firmly in place on the rack. Because the cradles secure each bike at three places (twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or down tube), rocking back and forth is virtually eliminated, preventing bike-to-bike contact.

Removable Pins

Swagman Around the Spare Deluxe Removable Pins

Removing one pin on each side of the rack allows easy access to the spare tire by removing the upright bars from the base of the rack.

U-Bolts

Swagman Around the Spare Deluxe U-bars

The rack installs on your RV with U-bolts that are designed to clamp around a 4" to 4-1/2" continuous welded square bumper.

Video Transcript for Swagman Around the Spare Deluxe Bike Rack Review

Speaker 1: Today you're going to be getting a good look at the Swagman Around the Spare Deluxe 2 Bike Rack for RV Bumpers, part number S80501. With your hitch in use for towing for your camper, you can still take your bikes with you camping. This two-bike rack is going to work on any RV or camper a four to four-and-a-half-inch bumper. You don't even have to worry about your spare tire getting in the way. There's a lot of movement at the rear of your RV or camper. Swagman has taken that in consideration. Each of your bikes are supported by two soft rubber cradles and four straps.

One of your straps is an anti-sway strap, that's going to help prevent swaying your bike when you're on the road. The three others are for your top tube. Swagman has also included two support straps that attach between your bike rack and your bikes. The Swagman Over the Spare 2 Bike Rack is going to work with your road bikes, mountain bikes, women's bikes, children's bikes, and bikes with alternative frame styles. Some bikes may require the use of a bike adapter bar to sit evenly on the cradles.

Swagman makes one and you can find that right here at eTrailer.com.I've gone ahead and removed the bikes so you can get a closer look. The cradles themselves are adjustable in and out to accommodate bike spacing, and adjustable left and right to accommodate bikes of different frame styles. They feature raised grooves to accommodate your break-lines and cables. The rubberized straps stretch out easily to secure your bike's frame. It removes easily so you can access your spare tire.

Just remove the two pins and clips. Then you can just lift it out of place. It's made with a rugged steel construction, with a black powder coat finish to guard against rust and corrosion. It has a weight capacity of 60 pounds. That's 30 pounds per bike.

Now, please note it's not to be used with aluminum bumpers or spot-welded bumpers. The Swagman Around the Spare features a limited lifetime warranty. Compared to ladder-mounded RV bike racks, you're getting a more sturdier rack and you won't lose access to your ladder. And with this style, there's no added expense of buying a hitch for your RV or camper. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll show you how you can get it installed. I've already got it loosely installed with the included U-bolts. Now the U-bolt are going to work with your four to four and a half inch bumpers. I've just got mine in place with the included hardware. I've got both U-Bolts loosely installed, that way I can adjust it to fit around my spare tire and also adjust it for my bike frame opening. As you can see, when I pull out on my U-bolt, my cradle arms get closer together. We just need to make sure that both sides are even, and then we can tighten everything down. Once you have it setup to fit your bikes and spare tire, you can tighten it down with a 9-16ths wrench. You will have to provide your own. When you tighten these down, you want to be sure and do it evenly. We can just repeat the same process on the other side. With the U-bolts tightened down, now you can tighten down your crossbar. You just want to make sure that the whole thing is sitting level. For these, you're going to need a half-inch wrench. Before you load up your bike, you'll want to undo your straps first. Just pull out and disconnect them. Now you can pivot your cradles to best suit your bike's frame. You'll want to load up your heaviest bike first. We'll bring it in and rest it in place. Now, you'll want to be sure to have it nice and snug up against your seat post too. Then you can bring around your first strap. This is going to be your anti-sway strap. Make sure it's nice and tight. Then you can just repeat the same process with the rest of your straps. Your second bike loads up the same as your first. You'll just want to be sure to alternate your handlebars. Swagman recommends a wheel strap, that's not provided. This is to help prevent your wheels from spinning. We have options here at eTrailer.com. They do include two straps for bike stability. They simply just go around your crossbar and around your frames. We have them both installed, and simply just pull them nice and tight. Now with all the bikes loaded up, let's go ahead and take it out on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our inaudible 00:05:04. This is going to show side-to-side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up and down action, such as pulling in and out of the driveway or out of the parking lot. Then finally onto our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Now you've had a good look at the Swagman Around the Spare Deluxe 2 Bike Rack for RV Bumpers, part number S80501.

This bike rack works great on our fifth wheel. It was very easy to install and is not a real heavy product. We are limited to 135 lbs. on our rear bumper. This rack is just under 25 lbs. so we were able to mount 2 bikes on it and still be under our limits. As always, etrailer delivery is fast. We love the videos they post of their products that we can review before we buy. 599655

Unfortunately, I was not able to use the product. When attempting to move the spare tire to the center of the bumper so I could use the rack, the tire slipped out of my hand and snapped off the whole bottom of the tire carrier. However, I just want to express how easy they made it to return the item. I live in my travel trailer full-time and have not yet been able to set up Wi-Fi, so I have not been able to use my printer. Ashley E. worked with me until I finally got the UPS label printed and successfully returned the bike rack. Ashley E. was very helpful and considerate while I was having my ‘issues’. Will definitely do business with etrailer again. 634379

I was a bit disappointed in this product. I was hoping to use it to tote our bicycles south for the winter. Unfortunately the design of our bikes, both Giant brands, do not work on the rack because of the way the cross bars are configured. They do not sit well on the rack. I'm guessing you have to have bikes with a single straight bar between the seat and the handlebar post. Ours do not, especially my wife's bike. 583423

Yes this bike rack does require the bike to have a level horizontal bar to hang from. The good news is there are bike frame adapters that will give you a level hanging surface such as part # Y02531
Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar
$49.00
. This yakima bike adapter bar fits most bike frames because it extends from 14 1/2 to 31 1/2 inches.

Ease of ordering and promptness of delivery was excellent. I ordered this RV bike rack on Wednesday at 4:30 pm, and received it on Friday at 2:30 pm. Amazing ! Much better than other companies I have dealt with. Very easy to assemble. Took less than 20 minutes from opening the box to finishing the install. I haven't had a chance to road test it yet, so that is the reason I did not give it a "5 star" rating. But it looks like if I secure the bikes as required, there should not be an issue. Very happy with your company based on this order and others I have placed in the past. Installed on a 2016 Jayco 30 foot travel trailer. 472838

Good product, well made. Took me less than an hour to install. Have a small travel trailer, just me and my wife. We are both retired. Wanted to take bikes with us when we travel.Don't have a lot of room on the rear bumper so this was the best product for my needs. Pictures of the finished job included. 405234

Works good. The only issue I had was where are the tubing fits down into another piece of tubing with a clip to lock it in place, it holds water. I felt like over time it will rust so I drilled a hole in the bottom of each square so that it would drain water. Other than that, it works great. 602499

So far - first trip out - we love it. Or bikes are a little different in design so it took some creativity to get them positioned on the carrier. The shape of the frame rests on the bike rack made this pretty easy, though. Definitely a plus. Bike on! 576047

We tried both the basic model and the improved model of this bike rack and the improved model is much better. Don’t waste your money on the cheaper model. The metal hooks are difficult to use, the vinyl coating pulls off and then your bike is being rubbed by metal. The rubber strap fasteners are much better. However, the round holes on the strap are really hard to get over the oblong male part. My husband has to help me. Not a Thule, but close. 734706

Works fine. Only 'complaint' is that it is hard to get the frame in and out of the base pieces if you want to remove it for a period of non-use. I have not tried to lubricate it but it seems like it may be tight due to tolerance stack-up. Other than that, I'm happy enough with it. 720356

This was just what I needed to get the bikes out of my pickup and clear up some space. Mounted easily and securely on the bumper of my Jayco. Straps are quality and easy to use. In addition to the bikes, I also mount a couple of lawn chairs. Really a well made unit. 697189

  • Carrying a Womens Bike Level on a Hanging Bike Rack
The Swagman Around the Spare Deluxe, part # S80501, does carry up to 2 bikes. Bikes, like a typical men's bike, with a straight, horizontal cross tube hang from that tube and are therefore level. For women's bikes, or any alternative frames that don't have the horizontal cross tube, you can use an adapter bar like the Swagman Deluxe, part # 64005. It connects to the seat post and the handle bar stem to create a level place to hang the bikes. Also, to secure the bikes to the rack add...

  • 4-Bike Rack for Use on Rear of Travel Trailer
It is fairly unusual for a travel trailer to have a 1-1/4-inch hitch installed; these days most trailers and RVs have a 2-inch hitch that offers more strength and a higher weight-carrying capacity. We offer 2-inch hitches made to install on RVs and trailers, both bumper-mount and frame-mount types, that are shown on the linked page. The highest weight capacity comes from a frame-mount type hitch like Curt's # 13703. This one can be bolted on or welded on to a trailer frame from 22-...

If so, then the Ultra Fab bumper hitch part # UF35-946402 would be a great option for a bike rack. You'll need a bike rack confirmed for the rougher ride quality at the rear of a camper though. How far off-center is the spare tire? You can push the bikes as far as they can go when on the rack to help compensate for the off-center spare but that is only going to be a few inches. I recommend going with RV bumper rack # S80605 because the 2 halves of this rack are not connected so you would be able to position the rack so that the bikes are more centered. • Why Cant a Spare Tire Bike Rack Be Used on 5th Wheel
Because the suspension of a fifth wheel is stiffer than a passenger vehicle, and because the rear overhang (distance between rear axle and rear bumper) is longer than what's found on a passenger vehicle.
