Video Transcript for DeadBolt Hitch Locks - Standard Pin Lock - 7683 Review

Today were going to review part number 7683. This is the Deadbolt trailer hitch receiver lock. It is the flush lock design for two inch trailer hitches. This deadbolt receiver style has a flush locking design to it. It does have the covered key slot, which you can see right here, which you can pull the cover off. Now this cover will help prevent corrosion because when you close it, it will seal that lock cylinder from getting any dirt or grime into there.

The lock itself is a double chrome plating for maximum rust resistance. It uses a patented pick-proof screw and lock security so you put the key in there and this will unscrew out of here. Ill show you how that works in a minute. It does have these all weather grips. They are rubber weather grips for improved handling, even in extreme environments.

This part is made in the USA. Now you can also order multiple locks of this part number, and they all can be keyed alike to have the same key to unlock them, and the way you would do that is if you go to the product page for this part number, theyll have a dropdown menu, and if you click on that it will give you a dropdown box and you can click on key to like, and then enter the number of locks needed into the quantity box, and we can send you out how many you would need. Now this lock is designed to fit two inch by two inch trailer hitches, either the Class III or Class IV. The pin diameter is five-eighths of an inch. The overall length of this let me give this to you, is going to be six inches.

Now the inside width, which would be a critical measurement because youll want to make sure it will fit your hitch, on this one is going to be two and five-eighths inches inside width. Now just a note, we have had some questions come up where this lock will not work on some factory two inch trailer hitches that have the outside width wider than two and five-eighths inches. So if you measure the outside width of your trailer hitch opening and its wider than two and five-eighths, you will need to go with another lock that has a larger inside width. (02:00) We know of a couple, the Toyota Tacoma and Tundras are a few of them that weve run into a problem with where this will not work on there. Just to show you how this would work is basically you just open the cap, put the key in, and it basically unscrews.

So if you turn this about four turns Ive counted it and its about four turns, it will unscrew, and then you just slide this through the once you slide your shank into your hitch slide this through the hitch pin hole, through the holes in the shank and out the other side. Just line this up and then go ahead and turn this, and youll be threading it on with the key. Once you get it, it will stop once its completely on. Just pull the key out, put the cap on and youll see its all locked and ready to go. That should do it for the review of part number 7683, the Deadbolt trailer hitch receiver lock. Its the flush design for two inch trailer hitches. .

I was looking for a good solid lockable hitch pin, and this one fit the bill perfectly. I have had locking hitch pins in the past, but what makes this one unique is its shorter length. It spans a 2" hitch exactly with basically no "wiggle room". I didn't want to hear the pin rattling around back there, and this item prevents that...in fact, in my application, the locking pin is only one-quarter turn away from its fullest tightening position. The key can only be removed at each quarter turn of the pin, so at some point you have to back it off just slightly to remove the key. 530081

I just assembled the 8" hitch extender(80307) and the cargo carrier (24 x 60)(63153) and the hitch locking receivers(7683) and threw it on the Hummer H2. My God this this is huge, low wiggle as the hitches sometimes are, and got the cargo stretch net(7330) to top it off. I'm leery of plastic hooks but we will see on the net. I put some heavy stuff in the middle of the carrier and went out as the directions state, locked the stuff down with the cargo stretch net and took it out foe a spin with the wife driving behind me. She said it road very well with no shift. So with camping coming up we can't wait! 65411

Just received and installed on my new Silverado. Only using it for now to hold my hitch cover but looks like a high quality product. It locks and unlocks a bit differently than other screw-on ended pins I have had before. It is just a matter of holding the key to tighten/loosen instead of holding the end of the barrel. No biggie, just different. 234574

Just what I needed to feel a little more secure when I leave trailer on auto in parking lot. And, they are keyed together!!! (One key for three locks) 132202

No probs at all. Several 1000 miles of towing, still work like new.

The key spins. The lock doesn't work. The box that the Deadbolt Hitchlock came in was damaged. 564824

Comments

Rather than unlocking with a 1/4 or a 1/2 turn like some locks do, this particular Deadbolt Hitch Lock unlocks by completely rotating the key about 10 times. Please continue rotating the key counter-clockwise, to see if the lock comes apart.

I do like the security of the locking pin but it is not the most convenient access to getting to the key slot with the key when installing and uninstalling. I do like the product. 202842

I love these trailer locks they are very secure and easy to get on and off no guess work. I love working with etrailer because they are always on point and have incredibly helpful advice with regards to anything that rolls. 575849

I’ve arrived at a point where I visit the etrailer website first to obtain detailed information on the products I’m interested in. I then do some comparison shopping to verify Quality, Pricing and Availability. The pricing is always competitive, but their service levels are extraordinary. The communications are excellent, and the follow-up (during ordering, after ordering, and after delivery) is top notch. I’ve ordered several times now from eTrailer, and most the time they have the products in inventory ready for rapid delivery. On the occasions I’ve ordered a non-stocked product, I’ve received the products before the indicated times. An example is three different locking hitch pins all Keyed Alike so (1) key would work for all three locks. Their service levels have kept me as a dedicated returning customer. Thanks for all you do. 551391

Arrived on time with my Curt cargo carrier and works great. Easy to use. The key goes in and then you twist the end until it stops and it's secure. Rubber end makes it easy to handle and rubber cap over key hole will keep the grit out. It's a solid simple design that I imagine will be very difficult to defeat and so serves as a good deterrent. Ordering was easy. Thanks etrailer! 476203

Excellent customer service, they do not try to sell you any extras, just what you are looking for. I was very pleased when I asked questions for the 5/8 2x2 hitch lock. This isn't the first time I have shopped this site and it was always the same good customer service. 220824

I just love it. It is all they said it would be. When you are looking for some thing to go with an item you are buying they will explain the difference and tell you what will be a better fit in what you are looking to buy., and of course it was a better fit.

Works great, absolutely no noise whatsoever. My only complaint (and it's super minor) is that I have to put it in with the key on the left - backwards for a right-hand dominant person like me. I can't get it past the electrical connections coming in from the left to secure on the right side. That's a totally minor inconvenience, and otherwise it does exactly what it was listed to do. Easy on, easy off, super quiet. 65609

This lock was just what I was looking for. I had to cut off the old one because the previous owner of my Grand Cherokee lost the key to their DeadBlolt lock. I replaced it with one I picked up at the local auto parts store and the pin was too long, even thought it was for a 2" hitch. This DeadBolt lock is flush with the stock receiver that is installed on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It also goes on like I expected. My other one had so much free play it took three hands to unlock it. I can actually unlock the DeadBolt with one hand. I like the flush design that IS flush and the ease of use. 95710

Comments

First off ...cutting the old lock off was not easy. We could not have done it if a trailer was hitched. It took some time and it was not a quiet undertaking. The new lock has worked out great. I havent towed anything with it but it does keep my hitch cover secure. It looks like I just purchased it. Great product! Great Service! Secure lock!

Overall it seems like it's a decent product unfortunately I'm not as satisfied as what I could be because the shank isn't long enough to actually fit thru my stock 2018 Toyota Tundra hitch. I'm also not to crazy about the fact that it isn't a simple Lock. More like a bolt you have to thread on or off. 572074

Comments

This lock fits some, but not all 2 inch receivers. The Toyota OEM hitch has thicker sidewalls than whats usually seen, which is why we mention in the product description that the lock wont work with hitches that have an outside width greater than 2-5/8 inches. The # RH5-XL
Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - Extra Long - Flush Design for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches
$20.95
lock has a longer span, and would work great in the factory hitch on your Tundra.

I hate doing reviews. I just received this two days before this review so there isn't much to say about it yet. It fits perfect, easy to use and seems a quality product. You put the key in turn the lock and use the key assembly to remove the lock by unscrewing it, very simple. I'll know more after I have had it on my vehicle for awhile. I had to ask etrailer.com what lock to use with my hitch and this is what they suggested and they have been helpful in helping me get the correct products for my ride. This will keep honest people honest, now I don't need to worry about my receiver light coming up missing or my bike racks. Thanks etrailer.com 175804

item arrived within 3 days along with the rest of my order. very pleased with this lock. i have to say i was confused at first, because i was trying to spin the wrong part. once i realized it works like a screw and you spin the "key" after you put it in, it was very easy. i am not hitch savvy. this is my first hitch and of course my first install (on my jeep). i am learning as i go along. so if your like me, and have no clue what your looking at, it only takes a second to get it. if you are already familiar with key hitch receiver locks, you would not have needed that extra couple seconds of playing around with it like i did. it is nice to have peace of mind with this lock, especially with as much work and time alone that i have put into the hitch install. i researched for a month an half on best prices before i started making purchases. i was very happy with the quality of the lock as well. i expect the lock to last a while. but time will tell. thank you etrailer.com team. 39856

Excellent so far that is. The reason I liked it so much was because of the black end caps. I bought a hitch cover and didn't want the pin to be showing. I couldn't have found anything better. The locking mechanism seems to work great and having the snapping cover for the lock is sure to pay off in the long run. Now, I just hope it will hold more than a hitch cover. If not, I'll be back. I recommend. 86826

Comments

Has it been a year already? Well, it has preformed well this past year and just so youll know, it will hold more than a hitch cover. Ive pulled small and heavy loads many many times and it works well. I still love the fact that its almost invisible. I would buy it again.

This lock fits very well with my 2" U-haul hitch on my ford Escape, with a little room to spare, too. The end of the lock was easy to screw on using the key, and fits securely. Fast shipping and great communication (emails) from these guys during every step of the process. I will definitely look here first if I need anymore accessories! 114987

Comments

One year later and the lock is still working great! The car is outside all the time, yet the lock still looks as good as it did when I first got it. The cap on the end keeps the keyhole rust and dirt free, so it is still just as easy to take on and off as often as needed.I would still highly recommend this product, and this site!

My husband is a proud Bluewater Vietnam Navy Veteran, celebrating his 50th year anniversary of coming home. My husband is retired & I decided to get a trailer hitchcover for his old truck, to compliment his combat veteran's license plate. While searching for a unique, eye catching hitchcover, I came across etrailer.com. The cover I chose is eye catching, unique & a sturdy heavy plastic. It was easy to install & the lock, purchased with it, will keep it in place! He loved the cover - and the price! PS: Still young at heart! 492564

  • What Trailer Hitch Is Recommended For Towing A Boat With A 2005 Toyota Sienna

With the 2 inch receiver you will have a wider selection of accessories available that you may need in the future such as bike racks and cargo carriers. • What is the Purpose of a Trailer Hitch Ball, Trailer Hitch Pin, and a Clip and are All Necessary
  • A hitch ball and a hitch pin and clip each serve a different purpose. A hitch ball, like # 19247, attaches to the ball mount, like # 2923, using a large nut that threads on from the bottom, kind of like a nut and bolt. This ball is what the trailer coupler attaches to. The hitch pin goes through the ball mount and the trailer hitch and the clip keeps it from coming out while traveling. There are also locking hitch pins that use a lock and not a clip like # 7683. Basically, you will...

  • The Rock Tamers Adjustable Mud Flap System, part # ERT00108, offers height, width and angle adjustment to match a range of vehicles. Please note that there must be at least 1-inch of clearance between the back of the ball mount face and the trailer hitch receiver opening to fit the Rock Tamers mounting bracket assembly. (Please see the attached photo.) The mud flaps themselves measure 24 x 24 inches but their height can be reduced to maintain ground clearance by trimming along the pre-marked...

  • Removing Corroded Hitch Lock
  • If liquid wrench or a WD-40 or PB Blaster type product did not work, you will have to cut off the lock. I have taken them off with little difficulty using a Dremel Tool or an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel. Make sure to wear eye protection. Some will recommend trying a torch to heat the lock, but that will just mess up the tumblers and you will have to cut it off eventually.

  • Which Trailer Hitches Will fit a 2002 Ford E150 Econoline Van
  • There are several hitches available for your 2002 E-150 Econoline Van. I have posted a link below of all of the hitches available. I would recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch for the 2002 Ford Van, item # 75703. This hitch is economically priced and can tow up to 6,000 pounds or 10,000 pounds with a proper weight distribution system, if your van has sufficient towing capacity. • Recommendation for Trailer Hitch Pin Locks that Can be Keyed Alike

Instead, you can use Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, # 7683. You can choose the keyed alike option and then select the quantity and you receive all the locks keyed alike. The hitch pin lock does not have a specific capacity but it is more than strong enough for your application. I have included a link to a video review of this...

  • Recommended Hitch Motorcycle Carrier with Ramp for 400-lb BMW on 2015 Chevrolet Silverado
  • For a 400-lb motorcycle you will want a carrier rated for more than this weight, to give you some safety margin, such as the Ultra-Fab # UF48-979033, which has a 500-lb capacity and a 39-inch ramp. To lock it to your hitch use # 7683. Your hitch receiver must also have the tongue weight (TW) capacity required for the combined weight of the 95-lb carrier plus the weight of your BMW. Ideally you would use this carrier in a hitch like the Curt # C14006 which has a 1000-lb TW rating.

  • The trailer hitches we offer that are designed to fit your 2013 Crosstour, like the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch, part # 24852, are Class l hitches and have a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. Using a hitch adapter like part # HTAD does reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent.
