Locking Trailer Hitch Pin for Bike Rack on 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver

Updated 05/22/2020 | Published 05/12/2020

Question:

Thank you for the response it was very helpful. You asked me as a follow up question for the brand. I have a Yakima brand (4 bike) bike rack. Yes it has a threaded portion inside the racks pin hole. Hence, I realized I can not use a standard 5/8" locking pin. What are my options to protect from theft.

The Curt hitch you purchased is part # C13272 which is a 2 inch receiver so the pin hole is 5/8 inches. A good standard lock to fit is part # e98880.

With that being said, a lot of bike racks have threaded hitch pins so you can't use just a standard locking pin. Their threads are usually specific to their own locks so you might need to purchase a specific lock for your specific bike rack. If you let me know which bike rack you have I can help you with a specific locking pin.

For Yakima racks you actually use your existing threaded hitch pin and add part # Y07235. This lock goes onto the threaded pin and basically turns it into a locking pin. it comes with a random key number but you can get another lock cored to match another Yakima lock core if you already have one. I've attached a link to all Yakima's lock cores that we carry.
