Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack In Use

The Yakima HoldUp is a premium, tray-style bike rack that lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. This rack is specifically designed to carry bikes with big tires and wide handlebars, but it will carry just about any bike, including those with wheels from 20" to 29", carbon frames, disc brakes, thru axles, or full suspensions.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Yakima 8002443 HoldUp Bike Rack Large Front Wheel Holders

The HoldUp is easy to load, even if your bikes have monster wheels. The deep, contoured front wheel cradles accommodate just about any wheel out there, and the pivoting arms with StrongArm technology ensure that your bikes are held firmly in place.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Ratcheting Arm

To load a bike, simply place your front wheel in the holder, rotate the pivoting arm up and over the wheel, and press down firmly on the ratcheting hook. To release the hook, simply press the built-in red button and slide the hook up and off your wheel.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Adjustable Rear Wheel Cradles

Large rear wheel holders allow the HoldUp to accommodate a wide variety of bike wheelbases. These wheel holders pivot front to back, adjusting automatically to your wheel size - no need for sliding and tightening. Secure the wheels in place with the ratcheting straps built into each holder.

Yakima HoldUp Ratcheting Arm No Frame Contact

Mounting bikes by the wheels helps prevent any scratches or scuffs to the paint. The ratcheting hooks are padded, however, so they won't mark your wheels. And the pivot mechanisms in the arms are overbuilt to ensure they keep functioning smoothly over a lifetime of hard use.

Fully Adjustability Bike Trays

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Adjustable Bike Trays

The wheel trays on the HoldUp are fully adjustable to ensure that you have all the space you need when mounting bikes with mammoth handlebars, such as a 29er. To adjust a wheel tray, loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base and slide the tray left or right to achieve the desired spacing. Retighten the bolts and you're ready to roll with optimum handlebar clearance and no fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Complete Security

Yakima 8002443 HoldUp Bike Rack Built-in Cable Locks

The HoldUp has a cable lock built into the end of each pivoting arm. These cables loop through your bike frames and attach to posts on the bike rack arms to secure your bikes in place. The cables store in the arms when not in use.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Locking Hitch Pin

The rack also has a HitchLock hitch pin that allows you to lock the rack to your vehicle. The threaded pin also works as an anti-rattle device to reduce noise and movement of the rack when it's mounted in your trailer hitch receiver.

The cable locks and HitchLock hitch pin include keyed-alike Same Key System (SKS) lock cores. These cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima products keyed alike.

Tilting Design and Compact Storage

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Folded for Storage

The HoldUp stores more compactly than similar platform-style racks, and features a spring-loaded pin at the base that lets you fold the rack up against the rear of your vehicle when it's not in use. First rotate the front wheel holders inward and tilt the rear wheel holders inward, then rotate the pivot arms down and use the ratcheting hooks to secure the arms to the rear wheel holders. Once the arms are in place, pull the pin and fold the rack up against your vehicle.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Tilted for Rear Cargo Access

The same pin can also be used to tilt the rack down 20 degrees for easier bike loading. The tilting feature can also be used when the is rack fully loaded, so you can gain easier access to your vehicle's rear cargo area without unloading your bikes.

Rack performs to expectation. Use it to carry two e-bikes (relatively heavy). The rear tire cup and strap could be more heavy duty- get's the job done, but I had to replace one of the cap/strap units because the spring clasp broke. I was quickly sent a replacement, at no cost, so I can confirm they stand behind the product. I would purchase again. 855974

Solid and sturdy and holds up (pun intended) to a lot of abuse. I believe I've already had this product almost a year if not more and it is showing some signs of minor rust and I lost one of the red end caps but no issues. The locking mechanism works flawlessly... My only gripe with is that it's advertised to hold up to a 3" diameter tire without issue but my bike is a 29er with 2.5" tires and you really have to push down hard the locking arms to secure the bike properly. Also, it does fit 18" kid bikes as well. 824505

I m very happy with our Yakima bike carrier. Very easy to install, it only took me 15 min. Instructions are simple and it looks great. I tried our bikes on and off and it is fast, also feels great not needed to lift them up to the roof of the car as our previous carrier. The only reason for me to give 4 stars is that I have 29er mtb with in a large frame (19.5') and rocks a bit back and forth as its frame seems almost to big for the rack, I will use and extra strap (not included with the carrier) on the front wheel to solve the problem. Easy. Can't wait for our next bike trip! As per the team at etrailer: they deserve a full 5 stars! Extremely well organised with excellent communication. I will definitely look them up again for my next buy and recommend them with no hesitation. Good job guys. 660494

The 1st Yakama roof mounted bike rack I purchased lasted well over 15 years. I gave it up because the model didn't fit my new ride. This review is for a rear, hitch mounted, 2 bike system. Right out of the box the rack looked great. Making sure my bikes aren’t stolen when I travel is a big issue for me. So I made sure the rack locks into the hitch receiver and the bikes lock into the upright securely, all with the same key. Tilting the rack out of the way is easy, even with a load. Assembly was straightforward. All the tools required for assembly were provided in the package. It may have taken ½ an hour to put everything together. It folds up compactly when not in use. I did have to adjust the rear view reverse camera on my car a little to get the best picture. I look forward to years of use. I recommend this product. 644340

I purchased the used installation model demo'd in the videos. Amazing deal! I could not find a better price for a used Yakima Holdup 2 hitch rack outside of etrailer.com. Arrived in excellent working condition, other than the normal wear that you would expect from a demo rack (this was listed in the description). Shipping was fast. The hitch rack installed perfectly on my 1.25" hitch. I could not be happier. 454891

Review from a similar HoldUp in RV and Camper Bike Racks

Seems like a solid rack. Really heavy and bulky which I was not expecting. You essentially have to mount the 2 bike rack to the car then slip in the 2 bike add-on. Lifting the 4 bike rack as assembled is doable but triccky. Still much better for my beloved bikes than the 4 bike cradle racks which beat the bikes up as they rub each other. Warning: the nut in the receiver part of the rack had steel shot beads stuck in the grease so I couldn't thread the bolt in. I had to disassemble the nut holder and pick the steel beads out with a dental pick. 412255

Review from a similar HoldUp in RV and Camper Bike Racks

Been a Yakima user for some time. Last bike rack was the Doubledown 4. Great rack but with the newer bike frames having top bars in different shapes and sizes, putting bikes on the Doubledown was a challenge. Had to go to a platform rack. Holdup was the fit. Carries 2 kids bikes without issues as well as my 29” and 27.5”. It is big and heavy but is solid and stable. Just makes it so much easier to carry 4 bikes. Just did a 500 mile round trip drive with them and no issues. Built in security cables is a nice feature. I did change out the two SKS cores to match up with the others. I’ll need to replace the stabilizer pin’s holder. It’s make out of plastic and broke right when I pulled out the pin so the cable is just hanging now. If I had to do it again, I’d buy it again. etrailer has quick shipping and great customer service. 723382

Review from a similar HoldUp in RV and Camper Bike Racks

I ordered the bike rack around 11pm on Saturday and it was delivered to me the following Thursday free of charge. The two boxes were in perfect condition and so was the rack. It was very easy to put together. I had read about some other customers having some trouble with the assembly but for me everything went together correctly and quickly. I took my Fuji traverse 1.1 for a test run on it around my town. It takes about 10 seconds to secure the bike to the rack. The bike was held in place very well and I’m looking forward to using it to transport my bikes back and forth from Rhode Island to New Hampshire this summer. It appears to be a very sturdy and well built rack. Too this point I am extremely happy with this purchase and I will give some more feedback after I have taken it on a few trips with all four bikes on it. 511045

Review from a similar HoldUp in RV and Camper Bike Racks

The Yakima Holdup 2 Bike Hitch Mount works as advertised and from the product instructions had absolutely no trouble with the installation on a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit. The mount is substantial, sturdy and simple. One comment for "etrailer.com"...DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING. The entire online experience was flawless. Your website was so easy, very informative and communication was "above and beyond" from searching, product research, explanations, ordering, email followups with order submitted, received, shipped, tracking (both on your site with a map of where the product currently is located and UPS tracking info) and delivery. I can't come up with any suggestions. I will definitely shop etrailer.com again...THANK YOU!!! 32420

Review from a similar HoldUp in RV and Camper Bike Racks

Just received the bike rack, and the hardest part of putting it together was getting it out of the box. It seems to be very sturdy and put together well, one small complaint was the instructions indicate that the hitch pin anchoring the unit to the vehicle, should go from Right to Left. This did NOT work on my unit and after conferring with customer support it appears to be a manufacturing defect that should not impact the performance of the bike rack, by inserting the pin Left to Right, but does show a lower standard of quality control than what I would prefer. 771352

Great product!! I already had one of these bike racks I had been using for over a year and then someone rear-ended my car. the impact crushed the rack, but the rack did a great job protecting my bike so I only had minor damage on the bike. I ordered the exact same bike rack from etrailer.com and it was delivered almost immediately even with regular free shipping. 208848

The bike rack works as advertised, but the powder coating on the 2" steel was to thick and got stuck in the hitch. After an hour of trying to get it out and a call to a friend, I belt sanded the powder coating and it is all is good now. 546130

Review from a similar HoldUp in RV and Camper Bike Racks

Just finished installing my new rack. I am VERY happy with the rack from installation to loading and unloading the bikes. Also I was very impressed with etrailer. I was looking for a specific rack and and only knew of one company that offered a rack that could be expanded to hold 2 more bikes. I was about to make my purchase of the very expensive other brand when etrailer suggested I look at the Yakima. I was very impressed with their videos and could see how the rack fit on my car so I purchased the rack and everything was exactly like they explained. I look forward to using this rack for a very long time. 785020

Excellent product. Well made. I am investing in a front wheel tie down to wrap around the wheel chock. It would be great if you included one similar to the one currently on the rear wheel chock. 83970

I have a 2004 Land Rover Discovery II with a rear tire mounting on the back gate. I do have a 2 receiver, I need a 4 bike holdup trailer hitch. Will the 2 receiver support the weight and will the unit clear the rear monstrous spare tire in the back?
-- comment by: Garry C - 09/08/2013

2039

Check the owners manual for the weight capacity of the hitch. Look for the tongue weight figure. As long as the rack and all the bikes combined weigh less than that figure, you are good to go. Whether or not it will clear the spare requires some measuring. I have added a link that shows you how to measure your clearance. Each of out bike racks that we list will have this clearance measurement in the description.

The bike rack exceeded my expectations! Well-designed and sturdy , yet not so heavy that I couldn't install it on my vehicle myself. Also E-trailer delivered the product as quickly as promised. 91902

Entirely disagree with the light enough comment- I purchased the 2 2 version and it has to weigh the most awkward 125 lbs Ive ever carried. Pay the extra $$ and get the KUAT aluminum version. Makes it even more of a PITA when trying to lift it up to vertical. Takes two people and cannot expect my wife and 7 yr old to manhandle it. Enginerds should have used a coil spring to assist with the lift. Also- after owning for 8 months, theres significant pooled corrosion i.e. orangered liquid oozes from every nook/cranny after a rain. They clearly did not protect the interior and expect that very soon the powdercoating will give way to flaking leafs of corroded metal. A huge shame for something that set me back so much $$$.KUAT- lighter and wont rust!

I spent nearly $800 for the 2 up with plus 2. Light enough, maybe if you only use the 2 bike version, it weighs over 50 lbs. I have the older grey 2 up along with the 2 plus making it hold 4 bikes. Combined they weigh about 100 lbs. No way one person can put the receiver in the hole. Very difficult for one person to raise up the unit from horizontal also. Two different size wrenches needed to take on and off bike as I have to remove the plus 2 first, 34 wrench then a 15/16 is needed on hitch. The plus 2 also does not come with a lock to secure it to the 2 up or a cable to lock the bikes to the rack. You will need to purchase them separately, another $50. I have also had two of the arms fail in a little over a year now, they have a lifetime warrantee but that gets old replacing them.Rack does hold bikes very good, but I am not happy overall with my purchase. Other models out there for this kind of money take a look.

Review from a similar HoldUp in RV and Camper Bike Racks

Received in good condition and quicker than promised. Product was easy to assemble and fitted to vehicle well. Loaded bikes easily and adjusted tray positions to avoid bikes coming in contact with each other (none come in contact with vehicle). Tilt down feature is great and allows access into back of vehicle. Test drove around neighborhood and bikes only moved slightly. Unloaded bikes easily and folded up carrier and drove around like that - no problems. Included cable locks are good but can't reach back tires, so need to buy another cable lock to fully secure the bikes - this is the only reason to downgrade one step from Excellent. 181598

The bike rack is awesome, well built and easy to assemble. The only issue that i have is that the product description says that these are suppose to have ratcheting straps to secure the tires and mine most definitely DOES NOT. Its not a big deal but still. 637274

Yakima recently made an update to the strap assembly on the wheel tray of the HoldUp. The old mechanism could stick and jam occasionally, so Yakima improved it. Well be updating our product description photos and videos shortly.

Very sturdy. Holds bikes in place with minimal movement. The two bikes don't touch and the rack doesn't touch the frame. I had been putting my bikes in the back of my SUV. They leaned on one another. This rack also clears up the back so I can carry passengers. Etrailer was extremely fast with shipping. Make sure you order what you want. The order will be processed and shipped before you can blink. I was extremely pleased with the fantastic communication and monitoring of the package. Great company. 22058

  • Is It a Problem if Yakima Hitch Bike Rack Tilts Slightly to One Side
On your Yakima Hold-Up Bike Rack # Y02445 and others with an anti-rattle feature the anti-rattle device in the shank applies pressure to push the rack's shank against the inside of the hitch receiver tube. This pressure can cause some slight tilting of the rack, especially if the hitch tube is not perfectly level. This in itself is not a problem. Your hitch has no adjustment capability; it has one place to install and no user-adjustments are possible.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2013 Ford C-Max Compatibility with Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack
The Hollywood racks like # HR200Z and # HR1000Z are rated for 45 lbs per bike even when used with a Class I hitch. Another great option is the Saris Freedom SuperClamp EX 2 Bike # SA4025F which is rated for Class 1 hitches and can carry bikes up to 60 lbs each. I've attached a video to help. The Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 is not able to be used on a Class I hitch. It is rated for only Class II and above due to the torque from the weight rating of 60 lbs per bike. I reached out to my...

  • Is the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack # Y02445 Compatible with a 2005 Toyota Corolla Trailer Hitch
The Yakima HoldUp 2-bike rack # Y02445 is not compatible with Class I 1-1/4 inch hitches, so unfortunately it is not compatible with the hitch on your 2005 Toyota Corolla. Only Class I hitches are available for the 2005 Corolla. We do have a similar rack that will work for your application, however. The Kuat Sherpa 2-bike rack, part # SH12G, is a lightweight, platform-style bike rack that is compatible with your Class I trailer hitch and would be very comparable in design to the HoldUp....

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2015 Subaru Outback OEM Hitch
The factory Subaru 1-1/4 inch hitches are designed with the pin hole so close to the end of the hitch tube that the only racks we recommend for them are the Yakima racks like the Holdup # Y02445. Yakima actually makes the Subaru brand racks. The Subaru racks are basically just rebranded Yakima racks.

  • Trailer Hitch for 2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited Wagon for 1-1/4-Inch Yakima Hitch Bike Rack
The Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4-Inch Hitches, part # Y02445, is best used directly into a compatible 1-1/4-inch trailer hitch. While there are adapters that allow different size hitches and racks to be used together, this practice is not ideal since ANY adapter reduces hitch capacity by half and also tends to allow for more random motion of the bike rack while you're underway. Since you do not intend to tow, your bike carrying application will be best served by sticking with...

  • Distance from Hitch Pin Hole to Rack on Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack When it is Folded Up
When the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack # Y02445 referenced in your question is folded up, there will be a distance of 7 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack. When folded down, this distance will be 12 inches. This is a very nice bike rack that works with 1-1/4 inch, Class II trailer hitches and can hold up to 2 bikes at 60 pounds each. The rack can also be tilted away for easy rear cargo access on your vehicle and both a hitch lock and bike lock are...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2016 Forester 2.5i with Factory Hitch
For your 2016 Subaru Forester with a factory hitch the Yakima Holdup part # Y02445 would be an excellent choice that we would highly recommend. This platform rack is one of the nicest on the market due how it will only touch the bikes you carry at the tires, it's relative light weight for a platform bike rack at 49 lbs. Check out the review video I attached for more info. The Hitching Post Pro part # TH934XTR wouldn't be nearly as nice of an option, but if you were looking for a hanging...

  • Can the Outside Tray be Removed on the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 When Only Hauling One Bike
I guess technically if you wanted to remove all of the hardware on the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 so that you can take one of the platforms off that would be possible, but I don't recommend doing that as it will wear down your hardware and gives you multiple opportunities to lose them. If you are concerned about the ease of loading up your single bike to the spot closer to your receiver then I recommend looking at the Kuat Transfer # TS02G. This is the only bike rack that allows you to "step...

  • Using Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack, Part # Y02445 on 2009 Toyota Yaris with Class I Hitch
The Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack, part # Y02445 will not work with a Class I hitch. Because of the limited tongue weight capacity of the Class I hitch, the hitch manufacturers weld a stop or punch a detent into the receiver that prevents the use of Class II accessories that have a higher weight capacity. Unfortunately, it is physically impossible to use this rack on that hitch because the shank of the rack will not slide into the receiver far enough for the pin holes to line up and the hitch...

  • 2016 Subaru Outback with Factory Hitch Bike Rack Recommendation
For your 2016 Subaru Forester with a factory hitch the Yakima Holdup part # Y02445 would be an excellent choice that we would highly recommend. This platform rack is one of the nicest on the market due how it will only touch the bikes you carry at the tires, it's relative light weight for a platform bike rack at 49 lbs. The other thing is that Subaru factory 1-1/4 inch hitches have the pin hole very close to the hitch opening. This means that not all bike racks will fit the hitch well....

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Platform Bike Carrier for a 2013 Ford C-Max
I think I have a great solution for you and your 2013 Ford C-Max. For a platform style bike carrier that is light weight and holds 2 bikes I recommend the Saris Freedom # SA4412B. This carrier holds the bikes at the wheels and frame and it weighs just 22-1/2 pounds! I have linked a video review of this carrier for you. The Yakima HoldUp, # Y02445, is a decent carrier. It is going to be heavier than the Freedom and it is a larger carrier so it won't be as easy to handle but still a solid...

  • Will the Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack Fit a 1-1/4 Inch EcoHitch on a 2017 Subaru Outback
Unless there is a different brand or model EcoHitch the one for your 2017 Subaru Outback is # 306-X7266 which is a 2 inch hitch. I just want to make sure I make the right recommendations. The Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" Hitches - Platform Style - Tilting Item # Y02445 will work with a 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch as long as it is a Class II. It is not compatible with a Class I trailer hitch. Check the hitch for a sticker that states the Class that it is. If that information is not...

  • Will the Rola NV2 Bike Rack or a Platform Rack Fit a Class I Trailer Hitch on a 2009 Cadillac STS
I do have a recommendation I think you are going to like. First, the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack # Y02445 will not fit as it is for Class II hitches. The hitch on your 2009 Cadillac STS is a class I hitch. But not to fear, because I do have a solution for you. I recommend the Swagman XTC-2, # S64670. This is a platform style rack. It fits in a Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitch like yours, holds two bikes, and secures the bikes at the wheels and at the frame. The platform style racks are easier...

  • Recommended 2-Bike Hitch Platform Bike Carrier for 2015 Honda Fit
The Yakima Holdup Tilting Platform 2 Bike Rack # Y02445 will fit only in a Class II 1-1/4-inch hitch. The hitches made for your 2015 Honda Fit, Curt # C11406 and Draw-Tite # 24920, are light-duty Class I types and this rack will not work in them. In a Class I hitch you need to use a 2-bike Class I-rated bike carrier and the linked page will display all items, such as the Swagman XC 2-Bike Rack # S64650. You can refer to the two linked articles for help in choosing a rack that best...

  • Will the Yakima Holdup Bike Rack fit a 2004 Volvo XC70
The hitch you would have on your 2004 Volvo XC70 would be a Class II 1-1/4 inch hitch like the # 36297 so you would need the 1-1/4 inch version of the Yakima Holdup, part # Y02445. This rack would work great for you. Thule racks have been very popular for us so that is why they show up quite a bit in our popular bike rack lists. I attached a review video for the Holdup for you to check out as well.

  • Will the Yakima HoldUp Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2011 Kia Soul
Even if you added the Yakima Replacement Spine Assembly, # Y80126, to your Yakima HoldUp bike rack, # Y02433, you will not be able to use it with a Kia Soul. The reason is because the 2011 Kia Soul can only be equipped with a Class I trailer hitch and the HoldUp for 1-1/4 inch hitches will only fit a Class II trailer hitch. What you will need for the Soul is a different platform bike rack. The most popular option is the Swagman XTC-2, # S64670. This bike rack holds the bikes at the wheels...

It features a wheel-mount design for easy loading and unloading and the rack can be tilted down for easy rear cargo access on your vehicle. It is compatible with Class II, 1-1/4 inch hitch receivers.
