The Escapee lets you carry 2 bikes on the back of your vehicle. It has padded, ratcheting hooks and long wheel cradles with sliding, ratcheting straps so you can carry 2 bikes regardless of size, frame design, or suspension or brake style. The heavy-duty construction is designed to carry E-bikes up to 60 lbs. It has a low loading height that reduces the strain of mounting your bikes for transport. It also has a locking system that secures your bikes to the rack and the rack to your hitch.

Pivoting Upright Arms with Ratcheting Hooks

Padded Locking Hooks

Ratcheting hooks on the upright arms hold 2 bikes of varying sizes firmly by the front wheels with no frame contact. The padded hooks won't scratch or scuff your bike, and built-in keyed locks let you secure the bikes to the rack. You can fold down the arms when no bikes are on the rack for convenient access to your vehicle's rear cargo area.

Long Wheel Cradles with Sliding, Ratcheting Straps

Adjustable Wheel Trays

Extra-long cradles with ratcheting straps secure your bikes' rear wheels to the rack. The straps slide along the cradles to accommodate bikes of different lengths.

Locking System

Threaded Locking Hitch Pin

There is an integrated lock in each ratcheting hook that lets you secure your bikes to the rack.

Threaded Locking Hitch Pin

The locking, threaded hitch pin secures the rack to your hitch receiver, and it also serves as an anti-wobble device to eliminate rattling in the receiver.

Since we bought an ebike for her we needed to get a stronger bike rack AND since we will be using it on the back of a car we will tow behind our Motorhome they said it had to be RV approved. This thing is built like a tank and is heavy! I made a mistake in that I missed where it said THIS rack is FIXED and does not fold upward. This was an important requirement for me, but I made the mistake and ordered the wrong one. I’ll be creating a solution for this.
Just got back from our 1st outing with the rack and I’m very pleased. It was only a 40 minute drive, but the bikes were steady regardless of the speeds up 75mph and a light gravel road. It is a simple matter to mount and remove the bikes.
I’ll feel more comfortable when transporting my Carbon Fiber TT bike since nothing touches the frame.
The only negative is it is heavy and a little awkward to hold while inserting into the receiver.

Comments
Its been a year now and the rack works great! I have to admit that when we had the bikes on it for the 700 miles to SC I did put a ratchet strap around the lowest part of the bike frames and bike rack Just In Case since it was on the back of the car we were towing behind our MH. I probably didnt need to, but I never would have seen them if they came loose or worse. I really like the fact that nothing touches the frame of the bikes!

The Swagman Escapee 2 Bike Carrier arrived with minimal damage to the box from shipping, did have a few holes punched thru from the components inside.
The assembly process was simple, Swagman makes it very easy to assemble the way its constructed. This is a very well made Carrier and should last a very long time.

I did figure out with this carrier if you just wanted to fold in up to minimize space ONLY WHILE PARKED you could remove one of the 3/4 bolts on the top bar and loosen the end one just enough for the bar to pivot with that loosened bolt it will fold up. I would only do this to save space while parked only. I would never recommend doing this while driving on the roadway.

I've provided some pictures of the Carrier in use with a mountain bike loaded and one with it folded up for added space. All in all this is a fantastic carrier and Etrailer.com comes highly recommended.

This Swagman Bike Rack is still working perfectly for our needs both on the back of our truck and the rear of our fifth wheel. I couldn’t be happier and still HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS bike rack.

The bike rack is heavy duty, well made for RV and electric bike use. The threaded pin was a little cheap and deformed quickly. It's a little heavy but that's what fit my needs. I would recommend this bike rack to meet the needs of an RV/E-biker. We also purchased the cover for long trips and it fits perfectly.

by:

Assembly was fairly easy. The printed instructions could use some improvement. The pictures are very poor. I looked at the picture on the shipping box to get it assembled. We have a Travel Trailer that came with a frame mounted receiver hitch. I did a lot of research to find a rack for our Pedido bikes. Found this one and my only concern was fit with Beach Bars on the bikes and mostly that our trailer has a spare tire mounted on the back. Gave it a try this July 4 weekend and it worked! Now I should add that fit with a spare tire is TIGHT. In the pictures You will see the rear bike pushed up against the spare tire. Good news is that it did great.

Bought the Swagman Escapee 2-Bike Platform Rack - Wheel Mount. Bikes are getting pricey and the wheel mount looked like a great way to go to protect the bikes. The Swagman Escapee has a pretty high weight rating per bike and seems to be made for EBikes in particular. We have Haibike SDURO HardSeven SLs. They come it at 49.3#’s with battery.

As always, ETrailer is a great vendor, multiple purchases over the years, always a fair price and a good product with speedy shipping. Their website is very informative and customer service rocks.

The packaging is good, even the dog approved. Came mostly assembled. I used thread sealer on the bits. Would be nice if the hardware came pre-dipped. Everything goes together smoothly with good tolerances to avoid the slop. All the holes line up. It is a big rack once assembled. So, that may be an issue for storage? A tip: The arms can fold down towards the wheel well, if you are driving without bikes, use the straps to hold the arm and not lose the straps.

A word of warning. Wheel mount systems seem to do great on the road / highway. Etrailers has various videos on their “test” track that show what I mean. Various mount systems hold the bikes more securely than others. This application is for the road only for us. Maybe gravel, but not designed for, or in our case, to be used during off road jaunts.

So, what do I think? Well, I may mount a third brake light to the rear of the Swagman Escapee hitch rack. Simple pigtail plug into trailer outlet plug. The Swagman Escapee sticks out a bit from the rear and I don’t want to get rear ended. Took it out on a 90 mile highway trip and no issues.

I would say the Swagman Escapee is a good product, a fair price, and if the Swagman Escapee fits your needs, buy it. I am pleased; I suspect you will be too.

This RV bike rack is truly heavy duty and, as always, dealing with etrailer is a pleasure. Their knowledge before the sale, their prompt delivery and the customer support is equal to none. Thanks Odelia and the etrailer team!!!

by:

Hands down, the best RV bike rack I have found, I checked out KUAT and Thule. The materials are high level steel and the hardware matches the durability of the rack. This isn't a light weight rack, it will no doubt stand up to the beating a rack takes on the rear of an RV. Can't wait to install it on the back of my fifth wheel.

by:

Great rack and easy assembly. Glad to know this one is rv rated while the hollywood racks are not due to metal fatigue and racks ending up on the road. Bikes load easy and no frame contact. Trying it out on the truck before putting it on the back of our fifth wheel. Moves bikes from a rack in a hitch on the front of the truck. Will update when on the rv.

by:

Very impressed, took several long trips with it behind my camper trailer. The bikes were clamped down like they were supposed to be despite all the bouncing. Never needed to readjust the bikes.

by:

E-Trailer Customer Service is excellent. Ashley and George were so helpful with a number of question. This system has worked extremely well on 2011 Thor Hurricane. I offers enough distance so the bikes don't touch. Very solid, with great attachment to receiver. It met all my expectations.

by:

We love our bike rack. After a year of continued use we like how secure it is on our RV. We also use the rack on our car.

Our only challenge with the rock was the keys and we found that after we clean and lubricated the key hole it worked fine.

Highly recommend this bike rack for others who RV.

by:

A well made and sturdy bike rack. We will be using it on the back of our 5th wheel. Shipped and received it very quick good company to deal with.

by:

This bike rack is perfect for our Leisure Travel Unity RV and Ford SUV.
We have traveled thousands of miles without any issues. This is one tough bike Rack.

by:

This bike rack that I waited for, for a while looks used and has been installed. I did not pay for a used bike rack. This rack is supposed to be brand new. The box is beat to crap. Looks like some hardware is missing. See pictures. Not happy at all very, very upset and disappointed in this.

Exactly what we were looking for in a two bike carrier for the rear of our 16” hybrid camper. We took the camper to a welding shop and had the bumper fortified. One year later we could not be happier with this rack- highly recommend it!

by:

nice /sturdy/ 2-bike rack for the back of my trailer! holds odd frame bikes with easy, like my wife's 'comfort bike' step-through.

by:

The Swagman Escapee Bike Rack fits my needs very well. I have it mounted to the rear of my travel trailer on the two inch receiver (in other words, I can't see how the bikes are holding up for a couple of hundred miles until I stop). I am comfortable with this as the bike rack appears to be quite robust and is RV rated. Concerning loading the bikes, I don't have to lift the bikes very high to position the bikes on the bike rack (with my other bike rack, I had to lift chest high). The arm to secure the front wheel is easy to position and adjust. The back wheel strap is easy to secure and adjust as well. I'm a bit conservative so I placed an additional strap over the center of each bike and secure it to the bike rack as well. I don't think it is needed but it gives me some peace of mind--as I mentioned, I don't see the bikes for hundreds of miles until I stop for gas. In short, I'm glad I purchased this bike rack and would do it again if I needed a bike rack.

by:

If you are transporting ebikes on your trailer or 5th wheel, this is the bike rack for you. We have made several trouble free trips during our first year of ownership. The strength of construction, the ease of loading and the security locking system are perfect.

by:

We love this bike rack. Fits our bikes and style so well. Very easy to get the bikes on and off. The company is very helpful and their team well versed to help you with all your questions. They make great recommendations and were willing to expedite the items we needed. We bought this bike to fit ebikes that we will eventually get. Highly recommend this product.

by:

Great product! We love the convenience of quick loading and unloading of our bicycles. The Escapee bike rack is very secure on the back of our RV and the ability to lock our bikes is icing on the cake! We traveled to Mammoth National Park from Texas knowing our bikes would be (and are) safe.

by:

The rack is extremely sturdy and fits perfect on the back of our 5th wheel. The only problem encountered was that the large size 29 inch mountain bike handlebar hit on the rear RV window. Luckily the smaller frame 29er handlebar hit just below the window. (See pics)

by:

Top of line product, perfect for the 5th wheel a true rv rated bike rack. Simple safe secure product, only 10 screws and bolts to put together. Everyone has it for sale, but not etrailer price or best of all the great knowledge of products or outstanding customer service all the way through your order. From now on I'm going straight to etrailer first for all my orders they have never ever let me down on pricing shipping and their customer service is simply the best what great employees they have the best bar none///// Thank you again for the great service Katie and Jennifer your the best/////

By far the best and easiest bike rake made for rvs bar none. Very knowledgeable employees about their products and bent over backwards to ship it to me while being a winter Texan. If you haul bikes on a rv or camper you best be sure its rv rated or your hitch can break and you will be dragging them down the highway. Best prices but best of all best service

We have used the Swagman several times in the past year and no problems. There is a loud squeak when using one of the rocker arm supports that I haven't been able to stop with lubes nor tightening/loosening bolts, but it hasn't stopped the rack from working fine. We have it attached to the back of our Rpod .I use a hitch tightener. Sometimes I get some sway above 60 mph but usually when I have our 2 bikes(one is a 50pound E bike) covered . I think the cover catches just enough air to cause the sway but slowing back to 60 mph does the trick. Being able to lock the rocker arms is a big plus.

by:

Easy assembly. Nice quality bike rack. It is much heavier than the bike racks for SUV's and cars. I bought the Escapee for my 5th wheel and so glad that I did. It held my mountain bikes while traveling with ease. It is the bike rack you need if you are hauling bikes behind your camper. Thanks so much Swagman!

Comments
The Swagman Eacapee bike rack works great! Best bike rack I have seen for 5th wheel campers or any camper. Super easy to put on camper and super easy to load bikes and it keeps bike very secure while traveling.

This is my second Swagman bike rack and love it! I made this purchase to carry Bikes on long trips! Although I have not hit the road yet I did put it together without much effort and put it on my RV just to “see” how everything fit... I put the 2 bikes on too...Perfect!! It’s just very secure and easy to use! Easy to put together as well! This is perfect for this 65 year old woman! Thank you etrailer!

Comments
It has been a year owning and using the Swagman Bike rack. The purchase was for my RV and it is PERFECT! We are in the road 4-5 months a year and the bike rack travels easily and I love how easy it is to put the two bikes on and off the RV anytime. In fact I usually store the bikes on the rack because it’s much better than trying to keep the bikes upright on the ground! And the rack after all these miles and all kinds of weather still looks and operates like it’s new!! I highly recommend this bike rack!

  • Bike Rack for Carrying Two Electric Bikes on Fifth Wheel
A bike rack that is installed on a towed trailer or fifth wheel needs to be specially engineered for that purpose. The harder suspension and the greater distance from the rear axle of the trailer to the bumper will subject the bike rack to more rattling and jarring than an ordinary bike rack would experience. You do not mention the weight of the bicycles, which is an important factor. We offer many different racks appropriate for use on a fifth wheel, but they all have limited weight...

  • Hitch Bike Rack Similar to Thule T2 for Rear of Camper Trailer
At the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few bike racks were designed to be reinforced enough for that type of use. Thule does not recommend the use of their racks at the back of...
