Traveler 5 Hitch Bike Rack

The Traveler bike rack lets you transport up to 5 bikes on the back of your vehicle without having to skimp on style or pay big bucks.

An anti-wobble hitch pin reduces the movement of the rack in the hitch receiver. And you can tighten the thumbscrew on the back of the upright mast to help keep the mast from wobbling.

Dual Arms

Traveler Arms

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Traveler features dual arms that support your bikes and better accommodate women's, children's and alternative frames. (An adapter bar [HRBA-PRO - sold separately] may still be required.) The arms easily fold down when the rack is not in use - just unscrew the hand knob on each arm, lower the arms into the brackets, and tighten the knobs down.

Anti-Sway Cradles

Traveler Cradles

Rubber anti-sway cradles with straps firmly grip your bike's frame at three points to keep it from swaying front to back. This helps to keep your bikes from hitting each other and your vehicle during transit. The cradles rotate and slide along the arms, so you can easily adjust them based on the type and number of bikes you're transporting. And you can use the integrated safety strap to help keep your bikes tied down.

Tilting Mast

Traveler Tilted

The Traveler's upright mast tilts forward to allow access to your vehicle's cargo area. Once your bikes are unloaded, just remove the linchpin from the base and tilt the rack away from the vehicle.

An anti-rattle hitch lock and cable lock set (HRLHPTC - sold separately) is recommended to deter theft of the rack and your bikes.

Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Traveler 5 Bike Rack Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Traveler 5 Bike Rack, part number HR9200. The Hollywood Racks Traveler 5 Bike Rack is the right on solution for you and your family to carry your five bikes. I've gone ahead and removed some of the bikes so we can get a closer look at the bike rack itself. The dual arms are going to provide excellent support for our five bikes. Here at the end we have two safety red reflectors. It's going to keep it more visible at night for our other drivers. The cradles themselves are completely adjustable along the dual arms.

It also features an anti-sway. That's going to help reduce a lot of the movement in the bike from side-to-side while we're on the road. You'll also notice the raised grooves here on the cradle. This is going to help with the grip on your bike. If you find yourself in a close quarter position or in a parking spot, the dual arms do fold down when not in use. You simply just undo the knob here, push it out, rotate it down and then back in.

Once you do that you just tighten it right back up. Just repeat that same thing on this side and then you've got it. Another good feature about this bike rack is that it does tilt away so that you can gain better access to your rear hatch. It's pretty simple. Just come around the back, loosen up the thumb screw, remove the pin and clip and then tilt it out. As you can see there we're able to open up our rear hatch all the way.

When we're all finished let's line our pin holes back up, insert that pin and clip, we'll come around back to our thumb screw and tighten that down. What that's going to do is its going to help tighten up the center mast here and reduce some of the play. The Traveler 5 Bike Rack also features an anti-rattle bolt. What that's going to do is thread through our shank here, pull it to one side and help tighten everything up. It's going to reduce a lot of the play and wobble within our receiver. The whole bike rack is made out of a sturdy steel construction with a black powder coat finish so it's going to be rust resistant.

It features a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over the features I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. This is to be used for your 2" by 2" receivers only. Let's go ahead and put the shank into the receiver. We're going to lift it up and push it in. We'll line up our pin holes. That looks pretty good. We'll take our included anti-rattle bolt and thread that through on the driver side. Once we get that hand tightened, we can go ahead and tighten it down the rest of the way. You'll need a 3/4 wrench or socket to do so. If you don't have a socket wrench we do sell one here at etrailer.com. That's going to be part number PT20104-38524. That looks good. We can put our clip in place here on the other side. We've got it. Now we can get ready to load up our bikes. What we need to do is raise up our dual arms. We can do that by loosening up these two knobs on either side. We push it out, rotate it up and then back in. We can tighten that down. We'll raise up our second arm the exact same way. Let's undo our straps and then we can grab our bike. We'll bring our bike up and over, work our way to the back. We want to make sure that the down tube of our bike is up against this cradle here. This is going to be our anti-sway cradle. That's going to help reduce a lot of the sway and the side-to-side movement in our bike while we're on the road. We'll bring our strap around this one first. Get that attached and we'll work our way around. With this bike in place let's go ahead and load up the second bike here closest to the vehicle. Same thing as before, we'll undo our straps. I'm going to have the handle bars opposite, that way they don't run into one another. We'll get it set up. I'd say about there looks good. We'll bring our straps over. You will notice that it doesn't have an anti-sway strap back here. That's okay because when we get all our bikes loaded up Hollywood Racks includes a strap that we can drape around the bikes and the center mast to keep them all in place. Now let's load up the last three bikes. I'm just going to undo my straps. That way they're all undone. When loading up your bikes it's always good to be aware of the pedal placement, that way things don't get jammed up. For some bikes, such as women's, children's and bikes with alternative frame styles, they may require the use of a bike adapter bar, which is what you see here. It helps the bike sit a little more even and level on the cradles. Hollywood Racks makes one. That's going to be part number HRBA-PRO. Now that we've got all the bikes loaded up let's go ahead and put our tie down strap to good use. I've just got it wrapped around a portion of the mast here and we're just going to drape it around the frames of our bikes. We'll come out through the back and then straight back to the cinch. We'll come up and then back down through. What that is going to do is its going to provide some extra security for our bikes when we're on the road. We'll just pull that nice and tight. Let's go ahead and take it on our test course and see how it performed. Let's start with the slaloms. This shows side-to-side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then on to our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris or uneven pavement. Last of all the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage or driving in and out the driveway. That's going to complete our look at the Hollywood Racks Traveler 5 Bike Rack, part number HR9200.

Product was exactly as described. Overall works pretty well although 5 bikes are a bit crowded and the rubber straps used to secure the bikes take some effort to secure 300591

Built to last. This one is replacing a 3-bike Hollywood rack that is 12 years old. It still works fine but I needed space for more bikes! I had one question during assembly - I called the toll-free number on the instructions and immediately talked to a very helpful person who answered my question. I highly recommend Hollywood racks and highly recommend etrailer.com. 82748

The rack is still working out great. Its a beast. My trailer and carrier needs are minimal, but I can honestly say that there is no need to shop around - because I did prior to this purchase - etrailer.com is a no-brainer.

Just used our bike rack for a camping trip after storing it in the garage for the winter. We had not tried to fit 5 bikes on it before, but my son wanted to bring both his BMX trick bike and his mountain bike. All 5 bikes (2 adult, 3 kids) fit without any trouble, nice and secure. Highly recommended. 399904

Solid design and materials. A bit of a challenge on more atypical frame shapes, including wider top tubes (e.g. Electra Cruiser, top tube is too wide for the cradle) or those with intersecting frame components that make for narrower frame openings (i.e. difficulty in getting over the cradles). Also note that the cradles do not move and the 5th pair of cradles are positioned close (same as other brands?) to the vehicle, between the vertical tube and the vehicle. 198013

Comments

After a year, it has held up well. Construction-wise, it a winner. As noted previously, a design that accommodates various frames better would have been nice.

Product worked great on a trip to Chincoteauge and back. About 450 mi. There are more deluxe bike racks available but they also have deluxe pricing that goes with them. I was very satisfied with the functionality of this rack. It seemed plenty strong to support the 5 adult bikes that I carried. 153751

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Traveler in Hitch Bike Racks

I've had the bike rack for a year now and still think it is great. I use it about once a week during nice weather and have not had any trouble with it at all. All the straps (rubber) are in good shape after continued use - holding the bikes nice and tight. Typically I take just one or maybe two bikes, so I've placed them in different positions to use all the straps/receivers equally. Every position works well for our adult bikes. 636552

Ordering and shipping were quite easy and very quick. Product looks very sturdy and easily assembled; however, have not hauled the bikes with it as of yet (just got it two days ago, the only reason I did not rate excellent). 94078

I saw a Rav4 that had a bike rackHollywood that fit over the spare tire. The rack looked to be bolted to the back of the door. I have an SUV without a door mounted spare, but I would like to find a bike rack that mounts to the back of the car. I dont want to use a car hitch.

There are 3 basic types of bike racks used on the rear. Hitch mounted, spare tire mounted and trunk mounts. The first two are out since you do not want to use a hitch and do not have a spare. There are several trunk bike racks that will fit on SUVs. You can write back and with the year, make and model of your SUV I can show you what will fit. Or you can use our Fit Guide, input the information, and the website will display the results for your vehicle.

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Traveler in Hitch Bike Racks

The HR6000 works very well, bikes load easily, have rubber tie downs that hold the bikes securely and is very stable on the road. This rack holds 3 bikes, normally I use it for 2 bikes but on occasion i have had 3 bikes, and it is stable and secure. The 3/8 bolt that connects the rack to the hitch has a tapered end that easily finds the threaded end in the hitch and threads through. The rack has a bottom pin that allows the vertical tube to lean back so the trunk or rear door can be opened with the rack on, (a very nice feature ) to help make that connection tight, there is a thumbnail bolt at the bottom to take up the play. That is a problem because that bolt wants to loosen and lets the rack sway, something to be aware of. Overall a nice way to carry bikes at a good price. 275418

Very nice bike rack for the price. Rack was very easy to put together and install. have only used it once but it seems to be very well made. the ordering was easy to use and rack arrived in 3 days. 176563

I have used the bike rack many times in the past year and it is very well made. The anti-rattle pin works very well and the strap keeps the wheels from turning in the wind. Would recommend this rack to anyone looking for a well made rack at a good price.

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Traveler in Hitch Bike Racks

Bought this product after researching many 4 bike capacity racks on line. I wanted something sturdy but not ultra expensive. I considered buying the Thule trailway ( I think it’s csljed) at dicks because it got pretty good reviews and has a latch to tilt instead of a pin. But ultimately decided on this model. So glad I did. very sturdy. Easy to assemble and operate. Holds 4 bikes or varying sizes/styles easily. The only change I would make would be to somehow attach pin that you pull out to tilt the rack out to the rack somehow. I’m always afraid I’m going to lose it. This rack will stay on my car for the majority of the year (with the exception of winter) so ease of use was important to me 555182

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Traveler in Hitch Bike Racks

We anticipated taking our grandson bike riding at various locations last summer but, we actually only did it once. After that he didn't want to go riding other than the streets in our development. I was glad we had the carrier and who knows we may use it in the future. It is a quality product that we were well satisfied with. I would recommend it to anyone shopping for a bike carrier. 258697

Excellent purchase for the value. It is very sturdy but stylish. Well done! Not easy to break down... It comes mostly pre assembled with minimum left to do other than just bolt it to the lower arm and mount it in your car hitch receiver. I highly recommend it. 242197

  • 5 Bike Hanging Rack Recommendation that Has 45 lb per Bike Capacity
  • The weight capacity per bike for bike racks like the Hollywood Racks # HR9200 is based on the frame cradles weight capacity. The rest of the bike rack would be fine as long as you didn't exceed 175 lbs, but not the frame cradles. For a similar bike rack with a higher weight capacity you would want the Curt Bike Rack part # C18065. It has a 225 total capacity which means it has a 45 lb per bike capacity.
