Sport Rider 2 Hitch Bike Rack

The Sport Rider 2 platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry one or two bicycles on the rear of your vehicle. This versatile rack is easy to use, and it features locking frame hooks and adjustable wheel trays so you can quickly load and unload your bikes. The included adapter sleeve enables the rack to fit both 1-1/4 inch and 2-inch hitch receivers. A locking, anti-rattle hitch pin tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the receiver.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

Sport Rider 2 Hooks/Levers

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Sport Rider 2 uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. The ratcheting hooks are easily adjusted along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The push buttons allow the hooks to slide up the ratcheting system to allow for bike removal. The lock cores keep the hooks from being moved up or down on the mast to deter theft. The hooks are different sizes and each one functions independently, meaning the rack can carry two bikes of the same or different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Holders

Sport Rider 2 Wheel Holders

The wheel holders accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 60 inches, and you can adjust the wheel hoops by sliding them along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with hand knobs. Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps secure your bike's wheels to the holders.

Sport Rider 2 Hitch Bike Rack

If you want to carry a fat bike on the Sport Rider, you can replace the rack's wheel trays with specifically-designed fat bike cradles (HRSPRWH-F-HD-HD - sold separately).

Folding, Tilting Design

HR1000 Tilted

The Sport Rider's tilting design makes it easy to access your vehicle's rear cargo area even with bikes loaded. To lower the rack, simply remove the pin from the base and tilt the platform down.

HR1000 Folded

The rack folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, To raise the rack, just lower the mast flat against the tray and then lift the rack up toward the back of the vehicle.

Easy Installation with Locking Hitch Pin

The Sport Rider 2 easily installs in your hitch with the included locking hitch pin. Just slide the shank into your receiver, insert the hitch pin, and then tighten it down with the included tool. The pin also works as an anti-wobble device to eliminate sway and rattle in the receiver. The frame hook locks and the hitch lock are conveniently keyed alike.

A removable adapter sleeve is included so the rack can be converted for use with 1-1/4" hitch receivers. The sleeve attaches to the shank with a single screw and can be installed or removed quickly.

Add-On Adapters

 Hollywood Racks Wheel Hoop Adapters

If you want to use the rack to transport a kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels, wheel hoop adapters (HRSW-ADP-2 - sold separately) are available.

If you want to transport one recumbent delta trike or one recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Sport Rider 2, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately).

Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 Bike Platform Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 platform style two bike rack. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider is a great bike rack for carrying two bikes. It holds them by their frame which means it's going to work with a wide variety of styles. We've got a mountain bike and a road bike here, but it's also going to work out with women's bikes, children's bikes, and bikes with alternative frame styles. How it works is the frame hook puts down pressure on the bike's top tube into the front and rear wheel cradles, and then a strap keeps our wheels in place. Like most premium style bike racks, it tilts away so we can gain access to our rear hatch. To do so, you want to remove these two pins.

We can remove the larger one first. You may have to lift up on your bike rack slightly just to allow that to easily slide out. Then, we can remove the smaller pin. Then, we can gently tilt it away until it rests. As you can see, we can open up our rear hatch, and depending on your vehicle you may or may not be able to open it up all the way.

With ours we can just slightly tilt our bike out a little bit more and, as you can see, we can open it up all the way. Now we can remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip.I've gone ahead and taken off the bikes so we can take a closer look. The hooks are adjustable along the center mast. They ratchet down over our bike. Their also rubber-coated to prevent any harm to our bike's top tube.

The large button allows us to raise the hook up when we're ready to remove our bike. Now the nice thing is, is it's lockable. That way no one can remove our bike but us.The wheel cradles are adjustable along the platform to work with bikes with different sized wheel bases. An example would be a kid-size bike versus an adult-size bike. The kid's would be closer together, and the adult's would be further out.

Once you've got it in place you simply just tighten it down. Now, the cradles themselves are going to work with tire widths up to three inches wide. The wheel strap itself is a hook and loop strap. It simply goes over our wheel and connects back to itself. The Sport Rider has a five inch shank rise. Not only is this going to give us better ground clearance here at the rear, but it's going to give us a higher loading height for our bikes. That was it's not so strenuous on our backs. I also like to point out the separation between the two cradles. This is going to better help minimize bike-to-bike contact. From center on center we're about 10 and a half inches apart. When your Sport Rider is not in use the center mast folds down to the right. Simply remove the pin, then replace it into the realigned holes here. By doing this, without having to tilt it away you can access your rear hatch. Now the bike rack can be stowed like this if you'd like, or if you're looking for more clearance at the rear, you can fold it up against the vehicle like so. This would be ideal for pulling in a close-quarter parking spot or in your garage. You'll notice that the pin that holds the center mast in place doesn't use a clip to prevent it from sliding out. It actually has a little tab that locks it in place. Once it's lined up with the notch on the bike rack it can be turned and this will prevent it from sliding out.One minor detail that separates this bike rack from others is this little rubber bumper here. When the base is folded up it makes contact and then it becomes an isolator. It's going to prevent all that noise and rattling that other bike racks might have when it's folded up.Now it includes an anti-rattle bolt and lock. The nice thing about the anti-rattle bolt is it's going to help remove all that play and rattle within your hitch receiver and your bike rack to make a nice, solid ride for your bikes. With it all tightened up, you can see I'm actually shaking the whole vehicle there with no movement at all. The nice thing about the lock is no one's going to be able to remove our bike rack from our hitch. Nice feature is it is keyed alike to the frame hooks on our center mass. It includes two keys. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider has a weight capacity of 45 pounds per bike. It's made out of a durable steel construction with a black powder coat finish. This means it's going to be resistant to rust and corrosion. Now, it also features a limited lifetime warranty. If you're interested in taking your bikes with you on long vacations, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider is motor home approved. If you already own this bike rack and you'd like to use your fat bike, you can pick up the fat bike adapter kit with part number HRSPRWH-F-HD.Now I'll give you some clearance measurements. This will give you an idea of how it's going to sit on your vehicle. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when folded down is about 11 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the farthest part of the rack when folded down is about 31 and a half inches. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when folded up is about eight and three quarters of an inch. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the farthest part of the rack when folded up is about 17 inches. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up and down action such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking lot. Then finally, onto our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. Now it's important to note that you do need a hitch receiver in order to use this bike rack. The nice thing is it can either be an inch and a quarter, or a two inch receiver. The bike rack itself actually includes a sleeve that slides over the inch and a quarter shank to adapt it to a two inch receiver. So if you had an inch and a quarter receiver you'd simply remove that and then you'd be all set up and ready to go. Let's go ahead and feed it into our receiver tube and line up our pinholes.Once we've got the pinholes lined up we can take our included anti-rattle bolt and thread that through on the passenger's side. Once you've got it hand-tightened you can use the included wrench to tighten it the rest of the way down, or you can use a three quarter inch wrench or socket. I like to use the socket. You can get a little bit more out of it that way. Get it nice and secure, and then we can put our lock on the opposite side. It just clips on.To load up our bikes, we'll need to lower it down to the platform position and then raise up the center mass. So we'll pull out the large pin here, lower it down, and replace that pin. For our center mast, raise that up. We'll make sure our hooks are up out of the way and we'll undo our straps. Now if it makes it easier to load up your bike, per your instructions, you have the option to remove your hooks. The way that's done is, you want to lower them until you can get to the Phillips-head screw here on the backside of the center mast. You'll need to provide your own Phillips-head screwdriver. We'll simply take that out. From there we can take the hooks off and it may or may not make it easier for you to load up your bike. Once you've got it in place, just simply replace it and push it down over your top tube. Then we can just connect our straps. Then you can just load up your second bike the same way. With both frame hooks back onto the center mast we can replace our Phillips-head screw. Now the only thing left to do is to lock up and we can get on our way. That's going to complete our look at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 platform style two bike rack.

Installed the HR1000 and the Drawtite hitch. Was very easy. The photos and videos on etrailer website were great, being able to refer to them for any questions during the assembly. The rack works great and we are able to open the hatchback on the rear of the prius without even having to tilt the rack and bikes back. VERY pleased. 160466

Rack came well packed and in perfect condition. The instructions are clear. Fits snuggly in 1.25" class one hitch with no wobble. The instruction say to have hooks secure frame at lowest point. I have two crank forward bikes with step through frames. The hooks won't go low enough to secure them at the desired point, so they touch where the frame is on an angle with a swim noodle for extra height and padding. Without the hooks attached and the upright bar lowered, my bikes are very easy to load. I really like that the rack and bikes can be locked and are keyed alike. 660069

For the price I paid, I am very happy with the bike rack. After a year of frequent use, it works just as well as it did the first day. In retrospect, I wish I had paid a little extra for a model that does not require the removal of pins to tilt it up and down, but again, for the price I paid, I am very happy. 320533

Decent rack and good value. Good service from eTrailer. I've had the rack for about a month and generally it has worked well for me. I was able to get it installed fairly easily and the range of positions and ability to use it with my bike that has fenders were pluses for me. Bikes have remained securely in place while driving. Critiques that led to my giving it a 4 was that I have found it a little fiddly when changing between the different positions, particularly when trying to tilt the rack away to open the rear hatch with two bikes mounted. Also, I would have liked some type of welded loop to attach the optional cable lock, which I also purchased. The hitch lock has worked well. 307682

We received the bike rack faster than we expected. I had good service with questions by telephone and placed my order online. The directions to put the bike rack together we're fairly easy. The bike rack does have some wobble in the hitch mount so my husband used a shim and now it doesn't wobble at all. Our hitch is a 2 inch hitch. It is very easy to load the two bikes. We use a couple of Velcro strip tie downs as additional security attaching the bike frame to the center stand post. We purchased the Locking hitch pin and the Locking cable HRLHPTC that go with the Hollywood Rack Sport Rider 2. It comes with four keys keyed-alike. We are very happy with our purchase. 305630

Pros: Easy to install. Easy to load and unload bike. Although trunk does not open completely on a 2009 Mazda 6 while bikes are loaded on the rack, the tilt feature on the rack enables you to open the trunk completely while the bikes are loaded. Areas for improvement: The directions were not easy to follow. Could be made simpler with more pictures and less words. Other comments: While the rack is loaded there is quite a bit of bouncing around while driving. Not sure if this was intentional in order to provide flexibility or what. It does not feel unsafe but it is noticeable. If it is unsafe I feel confident etrailer will reach out to me. Happy with purchase. 273017

The first time I used it, the foam of the top racheting bars has ripped and the short 5 mile trip caused the paint on the top bar to be scratched thru to the metal. Very disappointing. I may try to duct tape the foam back together. But to be safe, you should put some cloth or material where the top locking hook and the bike make contact. It's a hassle, and I'm annoyed by the damage to my bike, so I rate this as 3 star, since it did seem sturdy. 229857

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Sport Rider in Hitch Bike Racks

First, it came with instructions for another rack. I bought the trike itself due to back and shoulder problems (surgery) but this trike carrier is so heavy that I couldn't lift it into place. It was also too heavy and awkward to lower it, particularly with the trike in situ, for access to my tailgate, which rendered the tailgate useless. It was also difficult to lift the trike high enough to put it on the rack. I have not used it at all for these reasons. It may be useful for someone with strength and no disabilities, but it is useless to me. Sorry, but it was an expensive waste of money. 494106

The trike rack has allowed me to venture many bike trails across CA, including the beach!! Thank you for enabling this additional freedom!! I am only 5'2", and have limited physical strength, due to physical disability. With that being said, it is very difficult for me to lift my trike onto the rack. However, I solved the problem by purchasing portable bike ramps; problem solved !! The ramps fit in my little Ford Fiesta. This allows me to be able to unload my trike at my new bike adventure site, INDEPENDENTLY!! :D Thank you, again, etrailer, and keep on pedaling!! BTW, I have 960 miles (thus far) on my trike, and am still pedaling!! :D 419450

The only problem I have with this trike rack is the mounting height. As I am elderly almost 81 , the height I have to lift the trike is problematic. I have talked to Hollywood and we are investigating making a mounting bar without the offset. This would lower the height to a more mangeable point and make it easer to load 79519

Comments

Working out just fine. The straight bar lowers the rack to a more manageable height.

I researched trike racks and found the Sport Rider to be the best for the money. My rack arrived in record time. I assembled it in our living room due to the cold weather; it went together quite easily in about an hour. It fits nicely on my Subaru & holds my Catrike securely. I look forward to my trip to the mountains of Georgie this spring from the flatlands of Florida. 465427

. Instructions are difficult to understand. . For a tadpole tricycle there are a lot of parts extra, set up another trailer designed for tadpoles. Probably 75$ worth of extra brackets, center bar, etc. 129382

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Sport Rider in Hitch Bike Racks

I have a 3 wheel recumbent so I have a lot of left over parts that made the end product more expensive. There did not seem to be a way to keep the single rear trike wheel between the car and the main cross bar with the parts available. As a result, the trike extends further behind the vehicle than I would prefer. The trike sits very securely in the carrier and the carrier folds up compactly for storage. I think the carrier will work well for me until a dedicated 3 wheel carrier comes along. 191264

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Sport Rider in Hitch Bike Racks

Understand that I ride a Sun 3-wheel recumbent bike because I am disabled in my feet and ankles. But I have done well with it, all my rides starting and ending at my house. But I got a desire to ride other places and bought the bike rack. With a lot of help assembling it, I got it mounted to my car. It was really tough getting rack on the car and getting the bike on and off the rack but I declined any help. Since last year, I have done this about 10 times and really enjoy the rides. Every time I do it, it's a bit easier. So it's a success! I would say I'm a motivated customer. This is not for everyone in my condition. 279168

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Sport Rider in Hitch Bike Racks

I need to think about how to rate my experience as I go along in this review. I'm growing increasingly disabled. A year ago I had just bought a recumbent trike for exercise and to be out in the world again. I researched the internet to find a carrier so I could go to the bike shop and transport my trike to distant places. There weren’t very many options. Because I couldn’t find anything else I got the Hollywood carrier, which attaches to a car-hitch. It was the wrong decision for me. I had to buy the hitch (hundreds of $), have the hitch installed on my aging 1999 Mercury Sable (also hundreds), in order for me use the carrier (hundreds also, if I remember right). I’m sure I could have negotiated lower costs if I had more patience; I did the best I could. The total was over $900. Perhaps the carrier I got has the best design possible for the awkward task of carrying a recumbent trike. Hard to tell. Two things were challenging for me. 1) The carrier is heavy. I can load it on the hitch by myself if I had to, but I arrange to have a friend do the lifting. 2) It was complicated for me to assemble. Thew instruction videos seemed to leave somethings out. I needed help putting it together. Once assembled, it wasn’t simple to me to unfold it to install on the hitch. In the last year I’ve used it a handful of times. That’s my experience. I’m getting old (almost 69). I found the carrier to be heavy, cumbersome and difficult to install and operate. I can imagine that other people might not have the problems I had. The rating: it's not clear if you want a review of the product, or of how the product worked. or the experience of buying it. 1) Does the product work? Yes it did. I could use it to transport my trike--3 stars. -2) Was the product what I needed? No it wasn't (this was not the fault of the product) --2 stars. 3) Does the product have ease-of-handling? Not for me--a high 2 stars. Finally 4) What is my experience with etrailer? Before today I would've said pretty good (4 stars). There were no problems. I remember being contacted by email to see if thing were OK. But contacting me one year after purchase to see what I think, that's special and earns an upgrade to 5 stars. So, Deborah, Depending on what you want reviewed, i trust You tto assign the rating score. Assembling and using the product product itself--2 stars. Service from etrailer--5 stars. Wish i could be more definitive! 339450

Review from a similar Hollywood Racks Sport Rider in Hitch Bike Racks

Product arrived in excellent condition (would have rated 5 stars except for a couple of minor concerns). -Package could not be delivered on date promised - factory hang-up? -Instructions could have been better defined. Took some re-dos until finally getting the right combination. Altogether, a fine well made carrier. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks for keeping me informed about the shipping delays. 252315

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Difference Between Hollywood Racks Trail Rider and Sport Rider 2-Bike Racks
  • The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider # HR200Z and Sport Rider # HR1000Z 2-Bike Racks referenced in your question are very similar, platform style carriers that can transport up to 2 bikes at 45 pounds each. These are both very nice options that feature adjustable wheel mounts to accept a variety of wheel sizes and heelbases along with an anti-rattle hitch bolt that will reduce movement inside the hitch receiver. The primary difference between the two models is that the Sport Rider # HR1000Z...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Trek 7.3FX Bike on 2016 Toyota Prius 4 Touring
  • My favorite bike rack, and the rack I recommend for your Trek 7.3FX bike is the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 2-Bike Platform Rack # HR1000Z. I really like this rack because it offers adjustable wheel cradles to fit different length bikes, ratcheting padded hooks that secure your bike by the upper frame bar, and will allow you to tilt the rack away from the back of the vehicle while the bikes are loaded. The bike rack's shank offers a 5 inch rise to help provide better ground clearance...

  • How to Prevent Rattle with Hollywood Racks HR1000
  • The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 2-Bike Platform Rack # HR1000Z does include an anti-wobble hitch bolt, but using the threaded Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # HRLHPTC might help with some of the movement inside the hitch receiver. This kit also includes a cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack. Another option I recommend looking at that will help to reduce movement both inside the hitch and with the bike rack itself is a stabilizing strap like the Curt # 18050. This will provide extra...

  • 2 inch Bike Rack Adapter Recommendation for a Hollywood Rack # HR1000
  • Your Hollywood Racks # HR1000Z came with a 2 inch hitch adapter that it sounds like you misplaced. What you would need is the part # HRREDADA. This will attach to the 1-1/4 inch shank of your bike rack and will give you a solid way to connect to a 2 inch trailer hitch.

  • Comparing the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider and Swagman XTC2 Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks
  • Many of the platform style bike racks are similar. In terms of overall quality and performance, the Swagman XTC2, # S64670, is my top choice when compared to the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider, # HR1000Z. Apart from the same basic design these two racks do have some key differences. First, the wheel hoops used on the Swagman have rubber straps which are durable and protect the bike wheels. The straps used on the Sport Rider are Hook-and-loop straps (similar to Velcro) and can fray over time. The...

  • Differences Between Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 and Sport Rider SE2
  • The main advantage that the Hollywood Racks SE2 Bike Rack, # HR1450Z, has over the Sport Rider 2 Bike Rack, # HR1000Z, is its folding capabilities. The SE2 rack can fold up toward the vehicle when you are not carrying any bikes so you do not have the entire extension of a bike rack sticking out from your vehicle. It also has the ability to tilt away from your vehicle giving you additional room to access the rear cargo area. The Sport Rider 2 bike rack also folds up, but the extension...

  • Difference Between Hollywood Racks Platform Bike Racks HR1000 and HR1000R
  • The part # HR1000Z is essentially the same as the HR1000Y that you referenced it's just a part number that other retailers use for this rack. Now the part # HR1000R is a similar bike rack but it is setup for recumbent bikes. The cross beam that the wheel hoops ride on are much longer, the wheel hoops have adapters built into them to allow for the smaller wheels that recumbents have, and the hooks that grab the frames stick out and away from the upright mast more to allow for the much...

  • Bike Rack Comparison of HR200 vs HR1000 and Fitment on 2016 Ford Mustang with Draw-Tite Hitch 24928
  • I can help you find the differences between these two Hollywood bike racks. The # HR1000Z bike rack is going to have the capability to tilt away from the vehicle with the bikes still attached for better access to a cargo area common on SUVs. It will also fold up when not in use closer to the vehicle for clearance. The # HR200Z will not include these folding or tilting features, but does still have all the rest of the great qualities of hooks and straps the # HR1000 has. Neither...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack for a 2018 Mazda 6
  • The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2018 Mazda 6 to use with a bike rack is the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24908. The reason for this is because this option unlike its Curt counterpart does not require an additional stability strap to be used which can be a hassle. This hitch is also a no drill option that is super easy to install. I have attached both a photo and video on this process for you as well. For a bike rack, the easiest to use and most accommodating...

  • Hitch Mount Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Giant Revive Bike
  • If the Hollywood Racks # HR1400Z can carry your Giant Revive bike will really depend on the weight of your Giant Revive. Based on my research, these bikes have varying weights depending in the model and accessories. From what I could tell, most weigh between 40-50 pounds. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Platform Rack # HR1400Z is designed to carry bikes weighing no more than 45 pounds that have a maximum wheelbase of 60 inches. The rack is compatible with 2 inch receivers, and includes an anti-rattle hitch pin. I'd also recommend a locking hitch pin/cable lock combo # S64031 to help deter theft. Good news is I do have a solution. Take a look at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2, # HR1000Z. • Hitch and Rack for Electric Bikes Recommendation for 2012 Hyundai Accent

If you could easily remove the battery pack from one or both bikes to remove enough weight to lower the combined weight of both bikes to 90 lbs, we offer a rack that would be perfect for you. • Advisability On Using Extensions With a Tow Bar

Adding an additional extension would certainly reduce the towing capacity by another 50%. With that...

Not a whole lot of space.
