Video Transcript for Reese Hitch Adapters - Hitch Extender - RP11004 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Reese 18-inch long hitch extender for 2 inch trailer hitches. This hitch extender will extend your trailer hitch receiver opening from the rear of your vehicle to avoid any obstacles. It'll give you extra clearance for your trailer. It can allow you to clear your slide-out camper that might have an extended overhang, and also allow you to mount your bike rack on a vehicle without having to remove a rear-mounted spare tire. This is constructed of a durable steel. This helps resist corrosion with the black powder coat finish. You can see on the very end portion back here, this section is actually a solid piece, and this is what goes in the 2 inch-2 inch opening.

This does require a hitch pin and clip to install it on your vehicle, or a hitch lock. We do sell both of those items separately. I happened to pull a hitch pin and clip that would be used on this, it's part number PC3, and we do sell that separately on our website. There are many different hitch locks that would also work with this that are listed on our website. Again, the specs on this. This fits a 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receiver opening.

The maximum gross trailer weight capacity on this is 4000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity is 400 pounds. When this is used with weight distribution it'll give you a maximum gross trailer weight of 6500 pounds, and a maximum tongue weight of 650 pounds. I do want to give you the measurement from the center of this hitch pin hole to the center of this hitch pin hole. You can see center to center is right at 18 inches, so that'll get your 18 inch extension. One note I do want to mention, that using this extension will reduce your hitch weight capacity by 35%.

If you'll notice also a nice feature, they give you a nice little hard plastic cover that will go in when you're not using it. That cover will keep any dirt or grime from getting inside your hitch receiver opening. That should do it for the review on the Reese 18-inch long hitch extender for 2 inch trailer hitches.

Must be a manufacturing defect because the pin does not fit through the holes that have been pre-drilled, so the product is worthless. If it was usable however it does appear to be what I was looking for of extending my hitch out away from my vehicle. 417871

I had to round the edges on the male end to fit into ANY 2" receiver.....even another Reese receiver adapter. Other than that, it's just an extension and does what it's supposed to do. 647789

I pull a trailer behind my pickup with a slide in camper. With the camper in the bed the tailgate is down so the extension allows room for the trailer jack to work and keeps the trailer away from the truck on corners. Great product. 610606

The adapter is exactly what I was looking for. It gave me the extra length away from the truck I needed. Very well built. Strong and durable. Even in the extreme weather Idaho has. No corrosion on it at all. I have been on very rough roads and haven't worried or even thought it would fail. Thank you 607451

Well one problem I have is keeping the nuts tight. Even with a breaker bar and 2 jam nuts they tend to come lose and the hitch extension has some play.

Hitch extender was just what I needed. This was used so that I could pull a small camper with my tailgate down . Haven't use the product yet--just arrived yesterday, but it appears well built. Had to extent the hitch to clear slide-in camper overhang. Not sure why they put the plastic chrome band around the end . . . . looks good now, but don't know how long that will last. I'll probably just pull it off. Took it to a weld shop to install a plate for chain hooks and a bracket for the electrical connection. I also intend on connecting side chains to eliminate side-to-side stress at the receiver. So, we'll see how it stands up after a couple years of towing. If it stands up like I expect it to, it will get 5 start. Incidentally, etrailer got it to me quickly and well packaged. 306596

I needed to extend the short tongue on my trailer to allow clearance on tight turns between my spare tire and the two kayaks on the trailer. The product was a simple solution, quite well-made and worked like a charm. 285478

Do you have a question about this Hitch Adapter?

  • Longest Available 2-Inch Hitch Extensions for Use with Truck Bed Camper
  • For a 2-inch hitch the longest hitch extensions we offer are the 60-inch # TLE1560 and 48-inch # TLE1548, both from TorkLift. However, these only work along with a TorkLift brand SuperHitch dual-receiver type hitch that has the strength and included safety chains to handle the extra stress from the trailer load being further from the hitch. To use one of these you will need to also install a SuperHitch. The longest standard 2-inch hitch extension that will work in any hitch is 18-inches,...

Keep in mind that using an extender like this particular one will lower your hitch towing and tongue weight capacity by 35 percent. The tongue weight shouldn't be an issue, because car dollies typically don't have a tongue weight much more than 100 lbs. The weight of the car plus the weight of the dolly couldn't exceed the 4000 lb towing...

The Reese model though has a limited lifetime warranty. On both the shank that fits into the 2 inch receiver is solid. This has a higher capacity when used with a weight distribution system which a WD system lowers the effective tongue weight on the hitch by distributing some of it to the front axle.
