Question:
I would like to use this hitch adapter to my receiver Ram 2500 , 2.5inch receiver , TW 2000 lbs , to carry my dirt bike . The weight of the rack + KTM 690 is around 400/410 lbs . Do you think it will work safely ?? Only on asphalt road Thanks for your help Chris

Hi Chris, that’s a great question and I’m glad you’re checking before loading that bike up. With the Roadmaster adapter part # RO24FR being rated at 400 lbs tongue weight, you’d be right at its limit with your bike and carrier, and once you factor in real world movement from the road, that doesn’t leave much safety margin. Plus, Roadmaster does not recommend these for anything other than flat towing.
A better option here would be the Patriot Hitches adjustable adapter part # PH48PR, since it has a much higher tongue weight capacity and is built more robustly for handling heavier loads like what you’re describing. That added capacity gives you a lot more confidence compared to being right on the edge of the rating.
The one thing I do want to point out is that the Patriot adapter is designed for a 2 inch receiver, so with your 2.5 inch hitch you would need to use a reducer sleeve like part # e26YR. That’s a common setup, but it’s something to plan for to make sure everything fits up correctly.
If you can share which carrier you’re using, I can help make sure everything lines up and you’ve got a solid setup for that KTM.
