Question:
What is the difference between a rearview camera and a backup camera? I want to enhance my rearward vision as I drive my truck camper. My side mirrors are good but trying to see through my truck and camper rear windows is sketchy at best. Too much guessing. Are backup cameras serving the same purpose as a rearview camera? Thank you Joe

Hey, Joe. That's a great question.
Backup cameras and rearview, observation, cameras are essentially the same, the difference comes down to how they’re wired.
With a system like the Furrion Vision S+ Wireless RV Backup System # FR57AD, it’s typically wired into the reverse light so it turns on when you shift into reverse. However, many people wire it to a constant 12V power source instead so it can be used as a rear observation camera while driving.
The monitor will go into a “sleep” mode after a period of time, but you can easily wake it up to check the camera feed whenever you want. As long as you have a 12V outlet, you can move the monitor into your truck or camper and keep an eye on things behind you.
You can also expand the system to include up to four cameras with part # FR24AD, all connected to the same monitor.
I’ve had customers with truck campers add extra cameras for exactly this reason, it really helps take the guesswork out of driving and maneuvering. It can also help see what's all around your camper without leaving.
How long have you had your truck camper for?

I recently purchased the Vision S+ and is using it on a 2025 Grand Design 351MS, and 2024 GMC 3500 AT4. The installation is straight forward and quick. The images are crisp and the unit is easy to use. The problem I have is that newer trucks use PWM and do not provide a constant voltage to the camera causing the link between the camera and monitor to lose signal. I plan on purchasing a 7-pin connector kit to fix this issue.

Thank you for the reply. I think my particular concern was the depth and breadth capabilities of these cameras. It would be very handy to see vehicles coming up on both sides but also important is the depth of view on these cameras. Will they focus 100-200 yards to be able to see what's coming at a bit of distance?
