Hitch Extender for 2013 Audi A3 Hitch Scraping Curbs

We just had a curt hitch 1-1/4 installed on our 2013 A3. We had to purchase an extender Curt 7 to mount our bike rack because the hitch sits too far back. Unfortunately, the extender is long and the rack hits the ground at our driveway curb. We are looking for a shorter extender. On your website the best option I find is the Curt C45785 6 extender. Are there any other options? We need it to extend from under the car but not too far back that it hits the curb. Thanks!

Hey Mara!
For your 2013 Audi A3's hitch, you can use the CR Brophy Hitch Extender for 1-1/4" Hitch Receivers # hes6. This is the shortest extender for a 1-1/4 hitch and in turn will hopefully prevent scraping will going uphill or over a curb. The drawback with using a hitch extender is that it will reduce the carrying capacity of your hitch by 50%, so you will need to assess your hitch and make sure that using the extender won't hinder your ability to carry your bike rack. If you have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11192 installed, the # hes6 will take your carrying capacity from 200 lbs tongue weight to 100 lbs.
What bikes are you carrying? Are you carrying e-bikes or long frames? The extender may affect that.

Thank you Jerry! We calculated the weight of the rack and our heaviest bikes (19 lbs ea) and are under 50% of the tongue weight. We are not carrying e-bikes but carbon road bikes (16 lbs or less each) and gravel bikes (each @ 20lbs). Thank you for your help! As always, etrailer is quick to provide answers and excellent to deal with! If only buying everything else was as easy.
