Features to know about

Get Perfect Trailer Balance Every Time: Built-In Tongue Weight Scale and App

Balancing your setup is easy with the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch. The built-in scale shows your trailer’s exact tongue weight, so you can instantly see if you’re in that 10-15% sweet spot of your gross towing weight. If you need to fine-tune, the free companion app walks you through the process—just enter your measurements, get your recommended distributed tongue weight, and adjust the lead screw on the hitch head until the scale reads that number. No guessing, no trial and error—just a perfectly balanced tow every time.

Stay Steady in Wind and Traffic: Integrated 2-Point Sway Control

This hitch keeps your trailer steady even when the wind picks up or semis blow past. The integrated 2-point sway control uses tension and friction at each spring bar to correct sway before it gets out of hand. The result is a stable, confident tow that tracks straight and smooth at highway speeds. Once it’s set up, you can even back up without disconnecting, so you stay in control whether you’re on the interstate or backing into a campsite.

Smooth, Confident Ride Under Load: Trunnion-Bar Weight Distribution

The trunnion-bar system evens out your load across your tow vehicle and trailer axles, helping eliminate that nose-up, tail-down feel. You’ll notice less bounce and bobbing on rough roads and better steering response overall. Designed for up to 8,500 lbs gross towing weight and 850 lbs tongue weight, it handles moderate-to-heavy trailers with ease.

Built Strong for the Long Haul: High-Strength Steel and Stainless Components

Every part of the True Tow is built to last. The hitch body is made from high-strength steel, and the 2-5/16" stainless steel hitch ball resists rust and wear. The included hitch lock secures the shank to your receiver for peace of mind when you stop along the way. It’s V5 and J684 certified, with height settings adjustable in 1-1/4" increments, a 6" drop, and 7-1/2" rise to fine-tune your setup for any trailer frame up to 6" tall.

Simple Setup and Everyday Use: Fewer Adjustments, Real Results

Hooking up is straightforward—just attach your trailer, check the built-in scale, connect the bars, and make your lead-screw adjustment. Once dialed in, you’ll enjoy a smooth, even ride without having to keep tweaking washers or hardware. The system even includes sway-control bracket placement flexibility (27"–32" from the coupler center), giving you the room to fit your trailer layout. Everything about it is designed to make towing simpler, safer, and more predictable.

by:

Built like a tank, much better than my other hitch, it was used hitch that came with the camper that was welded together for their truck. I'm sure this one will do fine and had great reviews from wandering weekends on YouTube.

by:

The hitch is perfect for our camper. Installation was a breeze. I highly recommend weigh safe.
Customer service was amazing!!

by:

It pulls my RV better than any other weight distribution hitch I’ve owned.

by:

Rate based on early thoughts. Extremely well built with high, smooth tolerances. Instructions are well written. Haven't towed yet. Will next weekend.

by:

The hitch is amazing. It’s like there’s nothing behind the truck except for the weight. Shipping was incredibly fast and arrived as if directly off the shelf. Etrailer is truly exceptional in customer service and Joanne K was exceptional. Thank you!

by:

It makes pulling out Brinkley Z Air 315 (38Ft+) so much easier! I really like that backing up causes zero issues. Once I learned how to use the trailer tongue jack to relieve pressure during connecting, it made it so much easier.

by:

I’ve now used three different weight distribution hitches. While initial setup is a little bit more complex than the two I used previously, I was able to “dial it in” with the right settings the first time around versus trial and error. Once installed I towed an overloaded 16,000 pound trailer over 2,300 miles without any issues.

by:

16 F250 towing 24' encl trailer. So far 1500 miles towing has been great. Nearly zero porpoising or sway. Set up seemed difficult from the videos and instructions but was actually a breeze. Was very quick and easy. W the f250 4x4 you probably only need 4" drop as the 6" is pretty low. Although my TT has a ton of clearance so you may need the rise w those as the 250 hitch only sits at 19" i also have a curt trutrack 4p which is very heavy to place on the receiver. The WS feels way lighter but maybe it's just the way its balanced. Also like that you can make adjustments easier w the WS vs the curt. The min torque on the WS is 150ft lb which everyone has a trq wrench for that, do yourself a favor and put more torque as it'll need it. Nothing w WS its just what happens w movement.

by:

Towed a 2026 Jayco trailer 7300gvw with a 2026 Chvy Silverado 1500 Z71 5.3. Estimated my combined weight truck +trailer and loads at 13500, TW was 850, followed instructions, installed hitch and used app. Set distributed TW to 2250 per the app. Towed 800 miles from NC to NY, on I81, no sway, proposing or other issues. Hitch is outstanding.

by:

Manufacturer needs to either ship in 2 boxes or redesign/increase cardboard thickness. When I received the 1 box (UPS), it was almost split in half and full of packing tape to hold box together. I was missing the lifting bar and spring arms. Those 2 items weighed 54 lb themselves. etrailer was very responsive in getting me the replacement items from manufacturer since I was picking up a new trailer in a week. Website wouldn't allow me to upload pictures.

by:

The instructions described the setup well. I can open my tailgate with this hitch!!! AWESOME!!!!! It's good to have peace of mind regarding whether the hitch is adequate for the tongue weight. I was surprised to see that I was 100lbs over what the rated tongue is listed as. My last hitch was inadequate...this one is perfect. Haven't towed with it yet, but I feel quite confident that it will safely handle the load.

by:

This is my second WD hitch experience. Ease of setup and installation is better especially with the head unit. Not having to deal with spacers and washers makes this much easier. Bar installation, loading and unloading tension was a lot easier and didn't require the effort of last hitch. Adjusting for front wheelwell difference is a breeze making overall ride handling and ride quality super simple. This WD hitch is a definite "recommend". I'm long time etrailer.com customer and found this shipping experience to be even faster than transactions in the past. Way to go etrailer.com!

by:

I just received the Weigh Safe Heavyweight distribution hitch. The one quite heavy as can be imagined package arrived in perfect condition. After unboxing the hitch, I’m impressed with the quality and workmanship. I can not report on the performance at this time, however the installation manual and user guide is quite clear to understand and follow. Also etrailer customer service is fantastic and I recommend purchasing anything through them as I’m a repeat customer.

by:

Installed according to printed instructions and videos. Downloaded app and this thing will not keep my trailer from swaying. I was so hopeful but now regret I spent $1070 on this hitch and I can’t keep my trailer between the lines when there is any wind.  I have only used the hitch once and now going to have to buy a different hitch.

by:

Setup was quick and easy, VERY well built system. The washers they sent were not the proper grade so they split but etrailer QUICKLY replaced them as well as the brackets that were scratched while torquing. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I have a 2022 ram 2500 Cummins on 38s with a Carli 3.5 pintop soft suspension setup with king shocks and what a difference towing. I would say this system corrected 55% of my squat issue. Granted, the system is not designed to help with squat however it did! I did tow with the system and noticed a night and day difference in trailer performance. Shipping was fantastic and the box came intact and very well put together. I received my packaged the next day with free shipping. When I called to place the order, Tiffany was kind and polite and was VERY knowledgable on products. Thank you again!

by:

This is the best weight distribution hitch. The instructions are very detailed plus the downloadable app makes it easy to dial in the proper weight distribution across the trailer and truck. After installing mine, both the camper and tow vehicle were perfectly level. The installation is a very doable DIY project.

Towing a 2025 Alliance 252RL (30') with a 2025 Silverado 1500 3.0 Duramax. With about 850 lbs on tongue and current measurements entered into the app, we run about 2100 lbs on the weigh safe hitch with the bars attached. The trailer towes perfect! Absolutely zero sway and very little bobbing cruising at 65 mph for 2 hours. I will test at slightly higher speeds another time. Proper setup per weigh safe instructions is a must! I had a dealer install it and they did not follow the instructions. I had to keep my speed below 60 and it still didn't feel great. After installing it per the instructions, it exceeded my expectations.

by:

App and set up guide were easy to follow. Got everything tuned in and ready to tow. Solid construction.

by:

The hardware and design look great. The issue is that it is dependent on a companion app. The app the manual says to download is incompatible with the current Android OS. The other available Weigh Safe app, won't take/use the "optional" weight distribution load ratings so that according to the app my F-150 with max tow package rated for 12000 lbs with 1220lb tongue wt rating when using a WDH. Weigh Safe customer support puts you on hold for 10 minutes and then punts you to voice mail. Hence the single star.

Hey George, we definitely understand the frustration with the app compatibility and difficulty reaching support for assistance. The good news is the hitch does not rely on the app to function. The gauge and weight distribution system are mechanical, so you can still set it up correctly without the app. The method to set it up the traditional way: Measure the front wheel well height before hooking up Hook up the trailer Tighten the WDH until the front suspension returns close to unloaded height That restores proper front axle weight and gets the hitch adjusted correctly regardless of what the app says. Let me know if this helps.

  • Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution System For 7,600 Pound Trailer
Hi James! With your GVWR being 7,600 pounds, your loaded tongue weight should be around 760 pounds. With that said, I recommend going with the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch - 2" Shank - 6" Drop - 8.5K GTW, 850 lbs TW # WS79VR. The Weigh Safe # WS59MR you were looking at has 12,500 pounds towing and 1,250 pounds of tongue weight capacity and would be too heavy duty for your trailer. You want your loaded tongue weight to fall as close to the middle of the system's capacities...

  • Can you Back Up With the Weigh Safe Weight Distribution Hitch Before Making the Adjustments?
Hello Tim, Are you asking if you can back up with just the head installed on the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch # WS79VR, when you put the trailer coupler onto the ball? If so, then yes because at that point it is really just a ball mount with a scale. Once you are connected I do not see why you would need to back up. The really neat thing about the weigh safe system is that once you have your trailer hooked up and see what the tongue weight is on the scale, you open the...

You're definitely off to a great start with a weight distribution hitch, it will make a world of difference towing that trailer with your F-150. The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch # WS79VR will work really well with your setup. Hello Sonya, thanks for reaching out. The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch # WS79VR will work nicely with the Ember Overland 190MSL. The weigh safe WD hitch is made for trailer with a GVWR under 8,500 lbs, and the 190MSL has a 5,815 lb GVWR which is well within parameters. This means there will be adequate tension on the spring bars so you will see good ride leveling and effective sway control. The built-in scale is a nice feature too. Just keep in mind the frame brackets...

Hey James! A weight distribution hitch is definitely the best way to reduce that rear sag. It will also cut down on sway for a much improved towing experience. The correct hitch depends on the tongue weight of your setup. As of recently, I'm a big fan of the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch. Hey John, great question! The right weight distribution hitch for your setup typically depends on the tongue weight of your trailer. Assuming that is the GVWR we're looking at 450-750 lbs of tongue weight which is a pretty wide range. You also have to account for the weight of anything you're carrying behind the rear axle of your Durango since that...
