Question:
Hello, We recently purchased a 2020 Coachmen Clipper 17BHS travel trailer. Its maximum loaded weight GVWR is 4,425 lbs. We tow it with a 2023 Chevy Tahoe High Country and recently purchased a BulletProof BPH89MR adjustable ball mount. We’re looking for a recommended sway-control system that will work with our existing hitch and help reduce trailer sway, ideally without requiring significant additional hardware or modifications to the Tahoe. We may also rent the trailer to other customers, so we’d prefer a setup that is simple to connect and disconnect. Would you recommend the Reese 83660 friction sway-control kit or another option compatible with our setup? Please let us know what mounting hardware would be required and whether it would work with our BulletProof hitch. Thank you!

Hello John,
Thanks for writing in, and congrats on the new camper!
I'm sorry, but Reese was part of First Brands, which filed for bankruptcy, and at this time has not been purchased, so their parts are not in production. I also do not know of another sway control system that will work with your BulletProof adjustable ball mount # BPH89MR.
I do have a great option for you! Since your 2020 Coachmen Clipper 17BHS has a GVWR of 4,425 lbs, your estimated loaded tongue weight will be between 440 and 665 lbs. I recommend the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch with Sway Control # WS79VR, which is rated for 8,500 lbs and has an 850 lb tongue weight capacity.
What I really like about this system, especially since you mentioned renting your trailer, is the built-in tongue weight scale. I attached an image so you can see what it looks like. It makes finding that sweet spot when setting everything up so much easier. You can see your actual tongue weight and use the Weigh Safe app to help get everything adjusted correctly.
This system is fantastic when it comes to sway control, which I think will be a big benefit for people who aren't used to towing. It will help make them feel more comfortable behind the wheel.
You will need to replace your BulletProof ball mount, but the Weigh Safe comes with the brackets and hardware needed to install it on your trailer's frame. You won't need to modify your Tahoe, and once everything is installed, hooking up and disconnecting is pretty simple. Just keep in mind that the setup will need to be adjusted for different tow vehicles.
I'm sorry we don't have anything that will work with your current ball mount, but I really think you will be happy with this system.
Does your trailer have a 2-5/16" coupler? I just want to make sure we have the correct ball size for you.
