Question:

I have an F-150 with max tow package limited to a 500 lb tongue weight without a WDH. My big issue is that I need to be able to occasionally move farm equipment so that I dont know the tongue weight in advance. The Weigh Safe True Tow Middleweight WDH looks like it could be a viable solution, but I have questions: 1. Are the 850 and 1250 TW spring arms interchangeable? Assuming they are, that would cover my full potential towing range. 2. The only spring arms available as parts are the 2200 lb ones. Is this because the product line is new so that parts are limited? 3. It is heavy ~110 lbs. How do people deal with putting on/taking it off their vehicle? Disassembly/reassembly each time? 4. My near term need is to pick up a ~4000lb tractor with a ~2000 lb trailer 7000 GVWR with tongue weight TBD, but presumably in the range of 800-1000lbs 700-900 lbs. trailer plus 100lbs for the WDH. Do you recommend the 850 or 1250 version?

Hey George, great info!

Yes, the Weigh Safe True Tow system is designed so the spring bars can be changed out for different tongue weight ranges. At this time, the replacement spring bars currently listed are primarily the higher-capacity versions.

You are correct that the system is heavy. Most owners do not remove the entire hitch assembly every time. The spring bars are the heavier portion, removing them makes it much easier opposed to taking the entire system apart each time.

Based on the numbers you provided, I would strongly lean toward the 1,250 lb tongue weight version # WS94RR rather than the 850 lb version # WS79VR . It is generally better to be slightly under the middle of a spring bar range than constantly near the maximum rating.

Do you hitch up solo or have a hoist at the farm?
