Can Weigh Safe Hitch w/ Scale Be Used With Sway Control

Updated 07/14/2026 | Published 07/12/2026

Question:

How does one use this with a single sway control device? Does one need a weight distribution hitch as well? I have a 2010 Jayco 165 Feather Sport travel trailer. I already purchased a 6inch hitch with a built in scale but want to add an anti sway bar. I dont think I need a WDH as my tow vehicle is a Ford F150 that can easily handle the 3500 max weight of the trailer. Thanks in advance.

Hey Manny! The Weigh Safe Hitch # WS78RR is not designed to be used with an anti-sway bar or weight distribution hitch. If you wanted to use an anti-sway bar like # 17200 you would have to weld on a sway tab like # C45822 which this ball mount isn't designed for.

You could use a WDH like the Weight Safe True Tow # WS79VR with a built in scale. However, that is a lot of money and it sounds like you don't have many issues towing it as is. You could try an electric system like # C94VV which uses the brakes to correct sway.

You could also switch to a standard ball mount with the sway control tab and use the sway control bar and just keep a tongue weight scale like # BTBRV004 handy for whenever you need it. Realistically it comes down to how attached you are to the ball mount with a scale. If you want to keep an adjustable hitch the Gen-Y # 325-GH-323 paired with the Dual Sway Control Bracket # 325-GH-300-1 would also work.

Any big trips coming up with the Jayco?
