Features to know about

Clean Appearance That Blends In: Completely Hidden Hitch Design

This hitch keeps the rear of your vehicle looking neat when it’s not in use. The cross tube sits behind the bumper, leaving just the 2" x 2" receiver visible. It’s a clean, factory-style finish that doesn’t take away from your vehicle’s design. When you need it, the receiver is right there ready for your bike rack, cargo carrier, or small trailer.

Confident Everyday Towing: Class III Strength Rated to 5,000 lbs GTW and 750 lbs TW

Whether you’re hauling a small camper, utility trailer, or gear for a weekend trip, this hitch has solid performance built in. It’s rated for 5,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 750 lbs tongue weight. The sturdy square-tube design and precision robotic welding give it the strength to handle regular towing and hauling jobs safely.

Rugged Finish That Holds Up: Gloss Black Powder Coat Over Protective Base

Road salt, rain, and grime are no match for this finish. The gloss black powder coat is layered over a rust-resistant base coat to guard against corrosion inside and out. It keeps its smooth look and helps prevent chips or flaking even after extended use.

Simple Bolt-On Setup: No Welding or Drilling Required

You can install it yourself in a driveway with common tools. The hitch bolts directly to the vehicle’s frame using the included hardware kit—no welding needed. The open-back receiver makes cleaning easier after you’ve been on muddy roads or trails, keeping everything ready for the next trip.

Going on your years and it has been a trooper. Use it with a hitch mount cargo tray and hitch bike carrier and it is still solid as a rock.

Heck yeah, this hitch is solid. I love to hear that. Just out of curiosity, what bike rack are you using?

by:

So easy to put on. Followed the instructions in the video and went from start to finish in roughly 30 minutes.

by:

easy install and looks factory installed

He is very happy with the hitch. Easy innstall. Thank you!

I've bought Curt hitches from etrailer for every vehicle I owned and this was no different. This is the first time I've purchased and installed this newer style (as opposed to mounting it under the vehicle) and I would NEVER go back if I had the option. This was the easiest install of all time. Quite honestly, removing your bumper is the only part that requires any effort, and still, I had the bumper off, the hitch installed, and the bumper back on in less than an hour, including installing the wiring harness.

I bought it to be able to utilize the Ascent's 5000lb towing capacity, but right now, it's being used for the cargo carrier in my pictures. Couldn't be happier with how it all went. Also, I don't know how necessary it is, but I purchased a torque wrench for this install to be sure I was tightening to manufacturers specifications for peace of mind, which I'd recommend.

Bonus: This got to me in only a few days after ordering, and shipping was free. Can't beat that!

As always from ETRAILER, excellent fit, videos, and instructions.

Great product and was easy to install.

by:

Easy to assemble, etrailer YouTube instructions helps me a lot.

by:

Delivered when I was told. Easy installation with video aid for hitch and wiring. Definitely look your way again when in need of a hitch and harness.

by:

I love that a product that was engineered to mount using the existing bumper’s studs and bolt holes was available and affordable. Easy to install following the steps provided in the video. Happy that no clearance at the rear of the Ascent was lost.

by:

Fit perfect in Ascent. Not hard to install. Although it was my boyfriend who installed it. Have not hauled anything yet. But this week we will try it out.

by:

First hitch receiver ive ever installed and it couldn't have been easier. The video walks you through the steps. I broke the 2 push snaps that are near the top of the wheel wells.

by:

Easy install with the step-by-step video instructions. I’m very happy with the hitch receiver. We’ve used it with various hitch attachments for hauling bikes and other toys.

One year later and I’m still happy with the product. We’ve had zero issues using it to haul bicycles and other items.

by:

This is a well made hitch. It is heavy duty. It fits great on my 2021 Subaru Ascent. I highly recommend to others who think their only option is to spend a lot more at the dealership. This hitch works great and can be purchased at a very reasonable price. The best part is that it is super easy to install. I recommend watching the installation video so you can get familiar with the procedure.

by:

Just installed it on my driveway work just hand tools. The video they provide is incredibly helpful. Took a total of 2 hours and that's only because my bolts were rusted in and took a while to work out.

by:

High quality construction, easy installation. The videos from etrailer are a huge help as always

Received yesterday and installed today. No issues. This is my 5th trailer hitch from etrailer and again the process was incredibly smooth, accurate, and efficient.

by:

The receiver was very easy to install and I love that it is hidden behind the bumper compartment out of sight. We have used it probably 30 times in the last year and it has performed great each and every time. Would highly recommend it to anyone who is in the market for one.

Installed the Hidden hitch on my 2025 Subaru Ascent. Watched the video twice. Install took about 45 minutes. Did it by myself. Only scary part was pulling off the big trim panel but it was easy. Save yourself a ton of money and buy this kit. They rate as a 10 out of 10 for difficulty. I would give it a 6 if you have the right tools. Watch the video before you purchase to determine if you can do it. Love it.

We bought this in 2024 for my 2019 Subaru Ascent (Premium). We've used it for hauling mountain bikes around Utah. We started with a 4-bike rack and upgraded to a 7-bike VelociRax. It was easy for my spouse to install and it has held up well.

Even though you have to remove the bumper fascia, this is the easiest receiver install I have done. Didn't have to jack the vehicle, everything fit perfect. Less than an hour to install with wire harness. The Subaru Ascent hitch cover still fits, so I used my Dremel to cut an opening om the cover so I don't have to remove it each time. Lots of example of this on the Internet.

  • Where to Mount 7-Way of ETBC7 Kit
Hey Gene, while I don't know what vehicle you have I can say that most people attach the mounting bracket for the 7-way of the # ETBC7 to the lower bumper fascia edge. That's typically the best location for it. See the attached picture to see what I mean.

The difference between the Curt # C25VR and etrailer # e55ZR trailer hitches for your 2022 Subaru Ascent is that the etrailer hitch has a matte black finish that is a bit more robust than the Curt. The matte black finish does a better job at matching black trim on vehicle as well as hiding scratches that might happen from road debris hitting the hitch. Attached is an installation video of the etrailer hitch on a 2021 Ascent for you to check out. The installation will be the exact same...

Hey David, When I've installed these before on Subaru's I use the no drill mounting bracket # C57202 and the 7-way mounting bracket # TS64RR attached to the driver side of the hitch crosstube. You'll have to bend the bracket to get the clearance for the 7-way to fit, its a little frustrating of a trial and error but it will fit. For a brake controller I really like the Tow-Pro Liberty from Redarc # RED52VR. Install is pretty straight forward, you just drill a hole in either the dash/console...

It uses a special alloy made of recycled materials and combines aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. You are right about the OEM hitch too, a lot of times they come with a wiring harness.
