All in all the install went about as perfect as any of my previous hitch installs from etrailer.com. The fish wire technique was a no brainer for me. For my vehilcle the heat shield required slightly more trimming than expected. You just have to enjoy doing the work. The wiring kit was a breeze and worked perfectly. Thanks etrailer.com for my new Curt class3 hitch.

by:

It’s weird how well the fishing system works. Make sure you get a step bit! Any other system of drilling the frame is a pain. Great hitch

I always buy hitch/wiring harness from etrailer, and send customers here. It’s always good quality. Other companies mix crap in their inventory, makes it a gamble. I don’t like gambling

by:

I purchased this hitch for my bike rack. There was a bit of difficulty installing it on my vehicle but I do not think that was the fault of the hitch. It has worked great for its purpose. It is easy to put my rack on and take it off. It also does not extend beyond my bumper which is great.

by:

This hitch is solid, durable, and gets the job done on my 2019 Ascent. I’m using this to hook up a powered wheelchair ramp. The install went very smooth until it was time to trim the heat shield to allow access for the carriage bolts, then enlarging the Forward most access wholes to allow room for the carriage bolts to be installed. I went to Lowe’s to get the proper step bit (Which is surprisingly expensive 49.99). I would have given 5 stars but only 4 wishing that the carriage bolts were smaller to fit the factory predrilled wholes. I do understand that bigger bolts are stronger and durable. I’m no professional mechanic so the install video helped better than the pdf instructions. Anyone considering this hitch please watch the ENTIRE video before purchasing. You will need additional tools for the installation.

by:

Box came in beat up, thanks ups,,,unit was fine easy 2 person install

by:

The how to video's are great install was pretty easy thanks etrailer

by:

The installation went smooth, but took longer than you had posted.

by:

Exactly what I wanted. Easy to follow installation, everything that was sent worked great and made installing much easy. Would definitely recommend.

2019 Subaru Ascent

You might want to add a side note to this installation. I got the hardware in just fine, but when it come to attaching the hitch you are better taking the two mufflers off. Two bolts and two exhaust hangers on each side is all the stands in the way of clearing a lot of space. There is no way one person can leave the mufflers on, prop up the hitch, and try to get the hitch mounted without pushing a bolt into the frame. There is not enough room to fit an adult hand between the hitch frame and the muffler in order to put the nuts on. I did this on my back and it was nowhere near a one hour job...three hours, maybe. I’m pleased with the hitch...just adding my 2 cents.

Pontiac Montana

I did not want to rate until we had installed the hitch and used it to transport our e-bikes. Installation was fairly quick and easy and the coiled bolt guides were very helpful. We transported our e-bikes from Nevada to Montana and stopped several times to let our dog run and relieve himself. The bike rack tilts easily to let the dog out without issue. I would highly recommend this rack!

2019 Subaru Ascent

This time the hitch arrived with everything needed. The hitch was fairly easy to install by myself, it took me about 2 hours. The video on the website was easy to follow and the instructions seemed correct. I really appreciated the six fishwire included. This made the project so much easier compared to the last one I did.

2020 Subaru Ascent

I love the product and more importantly the installation idea. The only thing that would have turned this into a shorter job for me would be annotations denoting the tools needed for the install before the purchase is made. I had to visit the hardware store to buy tin snips, special drill bit to widen holes in the frame. Perhaps this was already in the item description and I missed it. Regardless, I love etrailers and will continue to accessorize my cars with their help.

2019 Subaru Ascent

The Curt Hitch C13400 and the installation video covered how the installation should be done and the tools needed. I installed the hitch by myself without jacking the Ascent off the ground in my driveway. By doing it by myself on my driveway was more difficult and took longer than the time indicated in the video, but was doable.

Subaru

Shipping was fast. Item was as described. Fit my 2019 subaru ascent perfect. I would suggest help. getting it in between the mufflers was a little tricky but it does fit.

by:

Amazing service! Amazing shipping speed. I ordered this hitch from another company, it took them over a month to mark the item as shipped. etrailer sent it within two day! Thank you so much.

by:

etrailer delivers once again with a quality product available for a good price. Delivery was right on time.

by:

Installation was reasonable. Love the h itch.

by:

Fits well, but shipping got pushed twice. They did ship in 2 days when shipped but when it showed very beaten up I don't have time to deal with exchanging it so I guess I'll have to see how it holds up. Had multiple spots the powder coat was scraped off even.

by:

Installation very easy. Looks good. Shipment was very fast. Thank you.

by:

A wonderful company to do business with. Quality products shipped fast and usually several options and great how to videos.

by:

I gave the hitch a 5 star because it was exactly how it was described on the website and the installation was properly explained. I will say, this one was pretty tough to install due to drilling expanded holes and using the fish wires. The picture explaining the fish wires was not great, but a quick check of the online video made it very easy to follow. The install took me about 4 hours, but that included a trip to the hardware store to purchase the step drill bit I did not have.

  • Curt C13400 Hitch On 2022 Subaru Ascent - Does The Spare Tire Shield Need To Be Reinstalled
Hey Rick, thanks for getting in touch. According to the instructions for the Curt # C13400, the spare tire heat shield is permanently removed. The instructions says to remove it and return it to the customer which means it does not go back on the vehicle after the hitch is installed. The verbiage in the instructions is a little weird and confusing on this. I even checked with our installers here at our shop and they confirmed the spare tire heat shield is not intended to go back on. So,...

  • Suggested Hitch Option for Carrying Bikes on 2022 Subaru Ascent
We currently offer several different hitches for the 2022 Subaru Ascent. Two that are concealed that will be hidden behind the removable panel on the bumper when not in use, and two that sit below the rear bumper and will be fully visible from the rear. The Curt # C25VR and etrailer brand # e55ZR are completely identical except for the powder coat finish. The Curt uses a glossy powder coat, while the etrailer brand uses a matte finish. Since the hitch will be fully hidden behind the bumper...

We offer two styles of hitches for your 2022 Subaru Ascent, a fully visible model such as the Curt # C13400 or the etrailer brand # e35ZR or the partially concealed Curt # C25VR and etrailer # e55ZR. The # C13400 or # e35ZR mount to the underside of the frame members, and the entire hitch and receiver tube is fully visible from the rear of the vehicle. • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2021 Subaru Ascent
The trailer hitch I recommend for a 2021 Subaru Ascent is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13400 for visible or part # C25VR for hidden. The hidden hitch will take more time to install as you haver to remove the rear bumper but it also makes for the best finished product. It's not actually as challenging as it may sound to remove the rear bumper but if you don't want to do this or don't mind seeing the crosstube hanging down below the bumper you can just go with the visible option....

  • Differences Between Draw-Tite and Curt Hitches for 2020 Subaru Ascent
Yes, both the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13400 and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76253 are confirmed to fit your 2020 Subaru Ascent and are both rated to tow 5,000 lbs. The main reason for their very different designs is the final look once the hitches are installed. The installation of the # 76253 hitch is more involved, requiring temporary removal of the bumper/fascia and permanent removal of the impact structure, which is then replaced by the hitch itself. • Recommended Trailer Hitch to Carry Bike Rack on 2022 Subaru Ascent
There are two basic types of hitches available for the 2022 Subaru Ascent. The standard and the concealed mount. The standard mount such as part # C13400 would install so that the receiver tube sits below the underside of the bumper fascia. This reduces the vehicle's ground clearance, but is typically easier to install. The more concealed option, such as the etrailer brand # e55ZR would install so it sits behind the bumper fascia, more like a factory installed hitch. The receiver tube...

  • Best Trailer Hitch for 2020 Subaru Ascent for Hitch Bike Rack
Hands down the best trailer hitch for your 2020 Subaru Ascent to use a hitch-mounted bike rack is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76253 because it offers a far superior amount of ground clearance and is a higher quality hitch than the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13400. Due to how the Draw-Tite hitch installs, it is approximately 24 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver, which is an exceptional amount that assures your bike rack is going to be clear of any type of ground contact,...

The biggest difference between the Draw-Tite Class III - 2" hitch part # 76253 and the Curt Class III - 2" hitch part # C13400 for the 2020 Subaru Ascent Touring is that Draw-Tite is a completely hidden design and the Curt has a visible cross tube with the receiver. We haven't had a chance to get the ground clearance measurements for the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e35ZR on a Subaru Ascent yet but when we installed the Curt equivalent, part # C13400, on a 2019 Ascent it measured 13-1/4" for the hitch height which would mean ground clearance would be in the ballpark of 11" when taking account for the 2" receiver and thickness of the metal. There are a few different options for the 2019 Subaru Ascent, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13400 and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76253 are what I recommend choosing between. The main difference is aesthetics and install difficulty. The Curt Trailer Hitch part # C13400 for the 2019 Subaru Ascent does require the spare tire heat shield to be removed during installation. The spare tire shield does not reinstall because the side plates of the hitch are between the spare tire and the exhaust. The side plates of the hitch now act as the heat shield that was removed. Since both the Draw-Tite and EcoHitch are concealed cross tube designs the impact structure must be removed to make room for the cross member of the hitch.
