Hi, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer, and we're gonna be taking a look at our Yakima StraightShot hitch extender right here on our 2021 Ford Bronco. You have a Ford Bronco, you have a spare tire, and you have the factory hitch. What you may have noticed is you can't really put a lot of accessories because they come in contact with that spare tire. That's where the Yakima StraightShot hitch extender comes in handy, because then it pushes your hitch receiver out, allows you to carry accessories like your bike racks, your cargo carriers, and still have a good time with your Ford Bronco. This extends out seven and a quarter inches.
So that's being measured from the hitch pin hole of your hitch receiver, all the way to the hitch pin hole of the extender. So when you have your accessories, I have here the Yakima on ramp bike rack. We now have a little bit of extra space. It's not that long of a hitch extender though, it's just enough for those accessories because as you can see here, there's just enough space for our bike rack before it makes contact with our spare tire. So this includes an anti rattle bolt, a split washer, and a clip for the end.
So if you want it secure, I highly recommend picking up a Yakima anti-rattle bolt with a lock. That way you can secure your hitch extender. And the tools that are gonna be used is you do get a wrench to tighten this down, or you can do what I do. I use a 15, 16, or a 24 millimeter socket that tightens it down a lot easier a lot faster. So this is made of a durable steel construction with a black powder coat finish.
This is designed to be used with Yakima accessories, but you could also use this with other accessories since it really just works as a hitch extender. Another thing to note though, is this is designed for accessories and not for towing. Just to give you that extra clearance. Another thing to keep in mind, is that it would reduce your hitch capacity by 50%. So the good news is most bike racks, most cargo carriers still work perfectly fine at half of your tongue weight on your hitch.
So with my experience with the Ford Bronco is when it first arrived, I had a hard time figuring out what kind of bike racks what kind of cargo carriers I could use with this because of its spare tire. If you're not sure where your hitch clearance is gonna be, measure from the end of your hitch pin hole out, and then measure the height up to underneath the spare tire. Most of our bike racks, most of our cargo carriers will not fit. There's two solutions for that. One, get a different hitch. The Draw-Tite hitch actually sits a little bit further out, gives you a little extra clearance. The second option is this. Definitely get a Yakima StraightShot hitch extender because then it's an easy way to get more clearance, and allow you to carry all those fun accessories with your Ford Bronco. That right there was a really quick look here at our Yakima StraightShot hitch extender on our 2021 Ford Bronco..
The Hitch Extension was perfect, It allows me to add an external spare tire rack onto the rear driver side door without losing ability to use the Yakima hitch mounted 2 box carrier. The Hitch extension felt sturdy after installation and appears well built. Photo doesn't show the uninstalled tire rack.
I seldom do reviews, but compelled now. I ordered and installed a hitch for our Subaru. Install was laborious, requiring hidden bolts be fitted. Total install was about 3 1/2 hours. On completion, the receiver did not extend far enough beyond the bumper to allow my Yakima bike rack (from eTrailer) to mount up. It was going to take a hitch extension to make this work. After all the research and installation, I find out the hitch won't accommodate my bike rack - after its installed. A call to Madison at etrailer was fruitless. Remove and return it, or purchase a hitch extender. No remorse or apology for the misleading description that led to a no-go for my bike rack. Keep in mind, the hitch extension places the weight of the rack and 2 ebikes that much further from the vehicle, - bad physics. I paid full price for the hitch extension, like another $[XX]. Perhaps etrailer would at least have provided no cost shipping - not - instead that was another $[XX]. Madison was professional, yet held the line on any discount or partial refund. This may be my last purchase and referral to etrailer. Completely. Disappointing. Response.
Let me explain my one star rating. The product is probably just fine but I needed an extension for my trailer hitch and instead y’all sent me an extension for a bicycle rack. Upon receiving the item, it was clearly labeled not for Towing. In addition I wanted to point out that I ordered about $1500 worth of product from y’all and because the hatch on my SUV hit the trailer Tongue jack I needed an extension… So I ordered it and then you charge me shipping. I did ask if you would waive the shipping fee and I was told no so I had to return it of course pay the fee for that even though it was the incorrect part for what I needed. Not a happy camper.
Had to modify extensively to make it fit. Had to purchase another adapter to use.
Installed this extension w/threaded bolt, it is very secure will not rattle around in hitch.
Great product! Created the space I needed to allow for use of my bike rack on the back of my Jeep Wrangler! The customer service and the order process was great and easy to navigate.

I’ve used this adapter for over a year now and it’s still holding up strong! The quality of the product is exactly what one would expect from Yakima! No flaws… no rust… no complaints!
The hitch extension works as advertised and I tried 2 others before getting the Yakema with the bolt and resulting tight fit. As always, the videos you folks provided were helpful in demonstrating how the hitch extension would meet my needs.
This is more a review about the staff at ETrailer. I was buying a receiver hitch "basket" from them, which showed a step-up in the bar leading from the hitch. I was concerned that this would run into my square bumper on my Class C motorhome. Called and they went out and measured the distance for me. I was right, so got this and it works perfectly. Note: This is not designed to sustain towing a vehicle. There are others more heavy duty for that.
It’s exactly as I thought it would
just what I needed. Excellent Quality
Works fantastic. Gets the trike rack out far enough to open the tailgate and canopy door.
Quality looks great out of packaging. Packed well for shipping. Just installed on vehicle.
Customer Service at Etrailer is fantast ic
Melissa saves the day!!!
I needed a hitch extension to install my bicycle rack on my new 5th-wheel RV. I ordered several other different accessories for my new RV and after 2 weeks the Hitch Extension had not been shipped despite being in stock. I called for the second time and Melissa straightened things out in a number of minutes and got the hitch extension shipped immediately and just in time for my camping trip.
By the way - the Yakima straightshot worked perfectly! Very high quality and just the right length for my bike rack.
Received today. Good quality. Works as it should. The only reason I’m giving it 4 Stars is because etrailer used USPS for shipping. According to their tracking the hitch extender is in NJ. I’m not in NJ. Do better etrailer.

I am very sorry that USPS did not do better with the shipping of your product, when we pay for the label and ship it to you we expect them to get it to you in the time frame that they say they will. If we could only get teleport machines, but I am sure they will have their glitches too. Once again, my apologies Eric that USPS went on a detour to get the item to you, but I am happy to hear it is working as it should.
Great product fit and finish
Well made hitch and easily fit into my Draw-Tite QSP Trailer Hitch Silencer and Cover for 2" Hitch Receivers. However I had to remove the Draw-Tite QSP Trailer Hitch Silencer and Cover for 2" Hitch Receivers in order for it to properly fit as the hitch silencer took up about 1/8" or so of space preventing installation.
Quick delivery and great communication
Used to extend the hitch distance so bikes fit on bike carrier (the forward bike handelbars don't hit the back wall.) Has worked well and has had no issues.
Sturdy fit for the job
Quick shipping. Used this for a bike rack (Kuat Sherpa) on my JK wrangler, perfect length. The hitch pin screws in so it elimates the play in the hitch and my bike rack sits perfectly still. Highly recommend
The ship.ent was significantly delayed and then delivered to the wrong address. As such, we had to leave town without it.
Perfect fit!
Missing items when delivered. Contacted etrailer and they said they would send me the missing parts. Very friendly and helpful customer service.
Needed an extension to get the bike rack out past the large spare tire on the jeep. Worked great!

Hey Davy! Let me look into this for you because I think we made a mistake on charging return shipping when we advised incorrectly. Additionally, if you're towing and need a little extra clearance, an extended ball mount would be the ticket, like part # C45270. You would get the room you need without sacrificing towing capacity.
