Will the Yakima EXO # Y44ZR Work with a Spare Tire on My 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe?

Question:

If I use the extender and # Y44ZR....... What is the total weight I can carry. Is it only 50lb in each compartment with a total of 100lbs for both. If that is the case that is not very much at all. Please give me weight capacity for top and bottom. Thank you

If you plan to use the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ Enclosed Cargo Carrier and Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches # Y44ZR on your 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe, you definitely need a hitch extender. This is because the distance from the center of the shank's pinhole to the closest part of the carrier is only 4-1/4" long.

With that being said, the only compatible extender to use with the EXO is the Yakima StraightShot Hitch Extension - 2" Hitches - 7-1/4" Long # Y69VR. You are not able to use the EXO with any other extender. With the StraightShot, you add an additional 7-1/4 inches to the setup. The total distance from the hitch pinhole to the closest part of the EXO with the extender is 11-1/2 inches long. If you have a hitch receiver already installed, I recommend measuring the length from the center of the pinhole to the outside surface of your rear bumper. If that length is less than 11-1/2 inches, you are good to go!

If you need a compatible 2" hitch receiver, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class III - 2" # e98856. This hitch provides you with 350 pounds of maximum tongue weight capacity and 3,500 pounds of gross towing weight capacity. You will need the StraightShot when using this hitch with the EXO.

I am looking at buying Item # Y44ZR and I will possibly need an extender. If so will I loose any of the weight capacity? It is for the dual swing arm cargo?

As far as compatability, the Yakima StraightShot Hitch Extension - 2" Hitches - 7-1/4" Long # Y69VR is compatible with the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ Enclosed Cargo Carrier and Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches # Y44ZR. As far as weight capacity, using the StraightShot will reduce the overall tongue weight and gross towing weight of your hitch by 50%. All hitch extenders we carry have that reduction.

If you use the StraightShot with the Yakima EXO # Y44ZR, you retain the full weight capacity of the system as indicated on the product page for the # Y44ZR. The hitch receiver weight rating is what is affected. For example, if your hitch is rated for 300 pounds of maximum tongue weight and 3,000 pounds of max gross towing weight, it will be reduced to 150 pounds tongue weight and 1,500 pounds gross towing weight. I recommend factoring in the weight specs of your current hitch in order to determine what the 50% reduction would be.
