Trailer hitch for a 2024 grand Highlander, is an extension required to open tailgate with a bike rack? If so do you sell it along with the hitch? Thanks

Hello Louis,

There are too many variables to give you a definitive answer as to if your 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander's tailgate can open with a bike rack with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C26VV.

It depends on the bike rack, if the bikes are loaded, the length of the bike rack's shank, if the rack's arms fold down, if you have a raise in the shank, etc. Having said that, unless the shank is really long, it's pretty unlikely you'll be able to and will need an extender like the 7-1/4" Yakima StraightShot Hitch Extension # Y69VR.

Hey Louis, how did things work out with the Curt hitch and the Yakima extension on your Grand Highlander? Were you able to open the tailgate with your bike rack in place? Your update could make it easier for the next person setting up a similar rack.
