Will Yakima OnRamp LX Clear Honey Wagon Tote and Ladder on RV

Updated 01/14/2026 | Published 08/31/2024

Question:

I will be putting this hitch yakima onramp lx on the back of an RV and It has a ladder not centered and a honey wagon tote on the ladder. To clear this I will need 22inch from the inside bike. the tow hitch receiver is flush with the back of the RV. how far out does the hitch clear on the inside and as I know I will need a hitch extension can I get an estimate of how long an extension I will need. Thank you

Hey Ed, thanks for reaching out!

From the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest tray on the Yakima OnRamp LX Bike Rack # Y88DJ is 15" according to my contact at Yakima.

The only extension that's approved for use with the Yakima bike racks is the StraightShot Hitch Extension # Y69VR which would give you that 22" of clearance, but it would also reduce the weight rating of your hitch by 50% and Yakima wouldn't approve of it being used on an RV so it would be a "use it at your own risk" kind of situation.

The OnRamp LX sits out further than most other racks, so you'll have a hard time finding something with better clearance than this one.

Hey Ed, did the OnRamp LX give you enough clearance behind your RV with the ladder and honey wagon in place? Knowing how that setup worked could really help others trying to fit the same rack on an RV.

@LazerS The on ramp did not work out well for us. Had to give up the honey wagon, then ended up getting a different bike rack

@EdH Well dang, sorry to hear that. Which bike rack did you end up going with?
