Simple Removal for Full Bed Access

B&W Companion Simple Removal

With the Companion from B&W, you get a heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch that mounts in your truck bed by connecting directly to the included Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. No modifications are required to your truck or trailer. And no additional parts are required for the system to work. When you're done towing, the entire hitch can be removed for complete bed access.

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

The included Turnoverball serves as a sturdy, custom base for installing the Companion in the bed of your truck, but it's also one of the most recognizable gooseneck hitches on the market.

Gooseneck Specs:

  • Gross towing weight: 30,000 lbs
  • Vertical load limit: 7,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"

B&W Companion Installed in Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

With the B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch you get the best of both worlds. When you go to tow a gooseneck trailer, the Turnoverball creates a sturdy, dependable connection with your trailer. And when you're done towing, you can stow the ball upside down in the hitch to get full bed access and a clean appearance. When you're ready to tow your fifth wheel trailer, just install the Companion in the ball hole in place of the gooseneck ball and lock the post in place using the built-in handle. You can remove the fifth wheel when you're done towing, leaving your truck bed open once again.

This kit is custom designed for your vehicle. The mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.

Once you have the brackets and center section installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the mounting post of the Companion (or the base of the gooseneck hitch ball).

Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Assembly of the B&W Companion

To install the Companion, first bolt the included RV post to the Companion's base. This post is what inserts into the hole in your truck bed. The RV post attaches to the base in 1 of 2 ways to allow for improved cab clearance and proper positioning over your truck's axle.

The next step is to set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.

Companion 3500 Base Diagram

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base. The above diagram gives an indication of where to mount the arms so that you get the height and the cab clearance that you need.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

  • B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch And In-Bed Wiring For A 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD
Yes that is correct, the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1067-5W will work wonderfully with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, and since you already have the B&W Companion Slider Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # BWRVK3400 these two will mate perfectly. Incase you don't already, I recommend also adding the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness with 7-Pole Plug # 41157. This kit will tee off of your...

  • Fifth Wheel Install Kit For A 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD
We do carry fifth wheel install/rail kits for your 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. For that I recommend the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # BWRVK2500. This kit comes with all of the underbed install kit, as well as the above bed rails. I prefer this kit over others because it will be a no-drill install. Also the B&W products are made here in the USA. This kit includes industry standard fifth wheel rails, which will be compatible with virtually any fifth wheel hitch like the B&W...

The weight of the head unit is 75-lbs; the base weighs 207-lbs and the under-bed assembly weighs 112-lbs. For reference I have linked both the written instructions and an installation video showing this hitch being installed in a Silverado.

If your Silverado 2500 is a 6-1/2-foot bed you will need a slider 5th wheel hitch; if it is a 5-1/2-foot bed you will need more turning clearance than a slider can provide and in this case you'll use a standard fixed 5th wheel hitch along with a replacement trailer pin box called a Sidewinder (also called a Revolution on the OEM side) that changes the truck/trailer pivot point from the king pin to the rotating turret on the rear of the Sidewinder. You're definitely going to want the B&W Companion Flatbed Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter item # BWRVK3050. It's literally the 5th wheel hitch Hillsboro uses on their website pictures. The B&W Companion Flatbed item # BWRVK3050 sits only 10-1/2" above the deck height of the flat bed truck it is installed in. This is compared to the B&W Companion 5th...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Rails in 2008 Ford F-350
The B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck # BWGNRK1108-5W also serves as the underbed rails for the B&W Companion and does not fit other fifth wheel hitches. Don't let the lack of options dissuade you though because this is the fifth wheel hitch I would recommend for you even if you did not already have the base rails because the Companion is considered by many to be the highest-quality fifth wheel hitch available and height should not be an issue because it can adjust from between 16-1/4" to 18-1/4"....

  • Are the Locations of the 5th Wheel Jaw and Gooseneck Hitch Ball the Same
Hey Dwight! Yes-ish. The gooseneck hitch ball and 5th wheel jaw system will sit in pretty much the same area, right above or behind the rear axle of your truck. There isn't an exact formula for either setup so it won't be lined up directly each time. Is there an specific reason you're asking so I can add some more insight?

  • What are Dimensions of Puck Kit in 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500
Hey Tony, the GM rail kit that your 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500 could have had would have 22 inches from front to back and 27 inches from left to right like what you can see in the attached picture. Is there anyway you could email me a picture of the pucks? You might get under the bed of the truck and see if you can see a brand on the brackets.

  • Comparing The Ride Of Ram 2500 HD Versus 3500 HD For Towing And When Not Towing
The ride on the Ram 2500 HD will be more comfortable than the ride of the 3500 HD due to the coil suspension on the 2500 versus the leaf spring suspension on the 3500. With that being said, you will have more squat with the 2500 when the trailer is hooked up. You can put an aftermarket air bag system on the truck and deflate it to a minimal level when not towing to get a more comfortable ride. You could then inflate it to help when the truck is placed under a heavier load such as when...

For your 2013 Ram 2500, the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3500-5W is the same in both comparisons so the difference is in the gooseneck underbed rails. The Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1313-5W is a fit for DIESEL models only, and the # BWGNRK1308-5W is the fit for GAS models only on a 2013 Ram 2500. • Comparing The Reese Goose Box And Versus A Pin Box And 5th Wheel Hitch For Ride Quality
Hey Mark, So Bud is correct but the Reese Goose Box # RP94716 is designed with a gas shock and air spring to provide a more comfortable ride. If it were a standard gooseneck hitch without any cushioning then yes, you would have ride quality issues. Owners of the # RP94716 praise the difference this pin box makes in ride quality, but the air chuck location is less than ideal on this model. It's on the bottom of the box so some people have a hard time connecting to it once coupled to...

  • Does The B&W Companion Require Additional Foot Pads Once Installed
The B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W should have long plastic foot pads that fit into the slats of a corrugated bed, but there should not be the need of any other kind of pad. With that said, the long plastic foot pads should be used even if the base looks to be sitting properly. These limit/prevent side to side and front to back movement so not all the weight and stress are on the gooseneck hitch.

I believe you are asking about the plastic foot pads that come with the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3500-5W that fit into the corrugated lines of the bed to give you a better fit. These foot pads are only manufactured by B&W for the BWRVK3500-5W hitch that fits any truck with the turnover ball. If this is what you are referring to then the biggest reason that the pin will not engage with the use of the foot pads is because the truck has a bed liner. If you have anything...

  • 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 Recommended Underbed Kit to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer
The underbed hitch system I recommend for your 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 is the B&W Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1020-5W that can be paired with the Sliding # BWRVK3400-5W or Stationary # BWRVK3500-5W B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch since there isn't a standard aftermarket puck system for your truck. We do have the Demco kit # DR37FR which looks more similar to the OEM puck kit, but Demco designed this to only work with their 5th wheel hitches as a direct connection so you'll get a lot more use out...

Hey Billy, There unfortunately isn't an aftermarket puck system for your 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 so you can either install base rails to mount 5th wheel hitch or install a B&W Turnoverball # BWGNRK1020 to be able to tow using a gooseneck hitch ball or mount in their Companion # BWRVK3500-5W for 5th wheel towing. You'll also want to install an in-bed 7-way # PK11893-11932 to make connecting your 5th wheel/gooseneck trailer's 7-way cable easier. If your truck bed has the oblong cutout...

  • Which B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch For 2024 Toyota Tundra
Hi Cory, There is a B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch that will work with your 2024 Toyota Tundra with a composite bed, though it is a different part number than the one you asked about, as that one is for Chevy/GMC trucks with a puck system. Instead, you'll need the mounting rails (which even doubles as a gooseneck hitch), and either a fixed or sliding Companion. You'll need the fixed hitch if you have an 8 foot bed, and the sliding hitch if you have a short bed. The correct parts to add...
