Can a B and W Companion fifth wheel hitch model RVB3770 be used on a 2001 Chevy 2500HD pickup? I have one that I can get for free if it will work. Thanks

No, it will not fit in your 2001 Chevrolet 2500. The RVB3770 ( # BWRVB3770 ) is essentially half of the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3770 which only fits 2016 - 2019 Chevy/GMC trucks with a factory-installed towing prep package.
Unfortunately, there is not an alternate base that will allow you to use the Companion in a Chevy truck that does not have the prep package. Unless you got the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1067-5W and the Replacement Slider Base for B&W Companion Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVB3405. You would then move the hitch head from the # BWRVB3770 base to the new base.
Since your 2001 would not have a prep package, you'd be better off to use a hitch like the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 that installs to industry standard rails.
