Best B&W Turnoverball/Companion Setup For 2009 GMC Sierra 2500HD

Updated 09/08/2025 | Published 06/05/2025

Question:

Hello, I drive a 2009 gmc sierra 2500hd duramax with no hitch system in the back. I’m about to purchase a 5th wheel camper and was looking at my options. I’ve learned that the companion series bandw hitch has one that works with goose neck. I like that idea for versatility. Can I use BWGNRM1067 for the goose neck hitch and then get a companion series 5th wheel? Also can I run airbags as well with this set up? And is there any draw backs ? Thank you.

Hello Zach, thanks for reaching out. Sounds like you are on the right track here. The # BWGNRM1067 is correct for the 2009 GMC 2500, but that part number is the installation kit only, so more parts will be needed.

What is your bed length? I ask because we recommend using the slider for anything shorter than the 8' bed. We actually sell these hitches as a complete kit that comes with the goosneck hitch, installation kit and 5th wheel hitch - everything you need. Take a look at the following:

- B&W Companion Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Turnoverball for Chevy/GMC - Dual Jaw - 20K # BW72SR (slider)

- B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Turnoverball for Chevy/GMC - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BW82SR (non slider)

The companion hitch is super durable and user friendly. I recommend B&W hitch setups like this every chance I get. The only real drawback of this setup is the weight of the hitch itself. The RVK3405 slider hitch weighs about 275 lbs by itself, so it can be tricky to remove from the bed. The head unit can easily be separated from the base so that makes it a bit easier but still. Weight aside, this is one of the best 5th wheel/gooseneck hitches money can buy.

It is possible to add an air bag kit to this setup. For that I recommend the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57275. This will allow you to tow at the factory ride height so definitely a good investment if you plan to tow frequently.

What kind of 5th wheel camper are you looking at? Just curious.

Hey Zach, did you get a chance to decide on the bed length for your Sierra and which hitch setup you might go with? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others in a similar situation.
