Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Circuit-Protected Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

This converter safeguards itself and your vehicle against possible electrical shorts and overloads with integrated short circuit protection. Just install the connector as indicated and rest assured that the wiring system of your vehicle will remain feedback-free.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2007 Jeep Commander

Today on our 2007 Jeep Commander, we have our Tow-Ready Trailer Wiring Kit, part number 118408. Now, what comes in our kit, we have our module that has our trailer plug on it, come over here, we've got our driver's side plug and play, it fits in there as a, "T," and we've got our passenger side, again it fits in there as a, "T," and we've got extra wire, because we'll be running it through our bumper back here. Also, a couple zip ties and our self tapping screw. That's for our ground wire on our module. On the back of our module, we have our sticky pad I put on already so that we're ready to stick it in place as soon as we're at that point. First thing we need to do, is we'll remove our 2 pins that holds the light in place. I've got my remover tool, if you don't have a remover tool, it looks like a Flathead will work just fine, you just got to be careful you don't break these pins, because we'll need to reuse them.

Remove our tail light. We do have 2 alignment pins right here, so be careful when you're pulling it out that you don't break those off, so just pull straight back. All right, now I'll just remove our harness here. It's got a couple clips that hold it in place, and then squeeze this button here and it should pull out. I'll just set my light over here. I've got my harness, I've got space right where the light was.

I can reach all the way through and down, so I'm just going to stuff all this down there. Get our passenger side wiring down there too. Then, I'll take my, "T," here, I'll plug it into the factory plug. Take our other side, plug it into our light. I'm going to pull our ground wire and stick it down underneath.

We'll screw that in down under. Ready to put this back in place. We've got the 2 pins here, and they fit in the 2 holes right here. All right, so to put this back in place, I'll hook over this over here and line up our 2 pins, pop it in place. I'll take our 2 push pins, stick them in. All right, ready to go underneath and work with our module. All right, underneath here, we've got our module, our ground wire, and our wires that run over to our passenger side.

Before we go any further, I'm going to tuck this out of the way if I can. I'm going to stick my module to the side of our bumper over here. I'm just going to take some rubbing alcohol and a paper towel and just kind of clean it off so I get good adhesion. I'll take off the sticker, or the paper of our adhesion and I will pop it in place. I'll grab my ground wire, find a good metal spot. I'm feeling behind, up here, and there's nothing behind it, so it's safe to drill it in place through here. I've got my self-tapping screw that came in the kit. To run our wire across, I'm going to go ahead and pop these 4 push pins out of the way. This will allow me to pull the bumper away from the retainer plastic piece. There's 1, there's 2. We've got 2 on the other side. All right, moving those 4 push pins allows me to tuck my wire up behind here. I don't know if you can see this, but there's an existing wire harness that runs behind this plastic piece, so that's what I'm shooting for. All right, now that I've got that tucked up in there, go ahead and put our push pins back in place. Line up the holes, push our base through, may have to squeeze it together a little bit. All right, sometimes it's easier to pull the head out, push it back in, and then the head just pushes back in place. Just like on the driver's side, we're going to go up and take our light out, and we'll be able to reach all the way through from the top and just grab our wire. For now, I'm just going to tuck this, hang it right there on the existing sensor wire harness, that way I can reach it from the top. Just like on the driver's side, we've got our push pins here, need to remove those. Again, we've got those alignment pins that hold it in place, just make sure you don't break those off. Again, just by pushing this button down, and just unclicks. I'm going to reach down in here, grab my harness that I had sitting there for me. Then, I'll take the male to female here, and again just plug it right in the light. With this extra, I'm going to zip tie it out of the way with the provided zip ties. Just put it around the existing harness, that way we know it won't get in the way. Going to try and put this back in place. All right, and again I'll line up those 2 alignment pins back here. Make sure I hook it over and then line the 2 pins up. Pop those down. Now, I'm going to take my 4 pin wiring harness, I've got a, went out and got some bigger zip ties to go up and over the hitch. I'll just zip tie it to the hitch, keep it up and out of the way as I work my way across. I'll just use the cover here as a hold down to have that hanging here, then I'll zip tie our extra back up over here. All right, it's always a good tip, just clip off the ends of your zip ties, that way you don't have little hangy down things looking at it from behind the vehicle. Now, I've got my tester in place, we're going to test our lights. First, I'll go the left blinker, then I'll do the right blinker, then I want to test our brakes, and I want to test our running lights. Now that we've testes all our lights, we're good to hook up to a trailer and go down the road. That's our look at the Tow-Ready Trailer Wiring Kit, part number 118408, on our 2007 Jeep Commander.

I installed the wiring harness per instructions and ran the right side wiring in back of the hitch and zip tied it to the cross member. It isn't going to move or chafe at that point. I tested it on a test light and it works fine. I have it all buttoned up with no hanging wires. I did notice that there was no two sided tape provided as they had written in the instructions there would be. I provided my own.. and longer zip ties for the cross member. I also provided my own grounding screw as the one provided was short and the head wasn't wide enough for the ground connection. Other than that, it installed quickly. 431932

I shopped the online auto parts stores and called the Jeep dealer for a custom trailer wiring harness for my 2010 Jeep Commander. I found that the parts were either universal or too expensive. etrailer.com had the right part at the right price. I decided to tackle the harness installation after watching the video that was provided in an email from etrailer.com. Installation from start to finish took less than 20 minutes. I even impressed myself with the foolproof installation. This is the 2nd time that I have ordered parts from etrailer.com and it will not be the last. I can always count on etrailer.com for quality parts at a great price. The customer service is not too shabby either. 313812

Product was a perfect fit for my nephews 2006 jeep commander., If you follow the instruction that were provided with the kit it is a very simple job even if you are not really a "car guy". The beauty with this harness is the simple "plug&play" and no need to cut into factory harness and has water tight almost factory like plugs.. Super easy to install, more than enough wire to maneuver around obstacles. I would suggest having more zip ties on hand than were provided in the package. No issues with the 4-pole connector, I've had it attached to three different trailers and no problems. With other connectors I've had to mess with the pins to align properly, but not this one. • Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Hitch Receiver and 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2006 Jeep Commander
  • The trailer hitch receiver I suggest on your 2006 Jeep Commander is the Draw-Tite # 75338. This is a bolt-on hitch with a 5,000 pound maximum capacity. You'll want to check the towing capacity of your Jeep in the manual as well because you'll be limited by the lowest rated component. It sounds like your trailer uses a round 7-way trailer connector. To install the same connector on your Jeep you'll first need a 4-way. Use # 118408 for the 4-way connector and then if you only need...

  • If your 2007 Jeep Commander came with the factory tow package then it should have a factory 7-Way trailer connector at the back of the vehicle. You would follow this connector back to where it plugs in and that is where you would install # 118381. If there is no trailer connector on your Commander then # 118381 will not work. You would need to use # 118408 instead. I have linked the instructions and a video showing installation for you. Neither harness plugs into the back up sensor connector. I...

  • Is There Bumper Trimming Involved to Install the Curt Hitch # 13414 on a 207 Jeep Commander
  • To install the Curt Trailer Hitch # 13414 on your 2007 Jeep Commander you will not need to trim or cut any section of your bumper or add any trim bezels. I attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out also. You also would not need to reflash the PCM of your vehicle either once you installed a Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118408. You would have to reflash the computer if you were trying to install the factory tow package wiring harness on your vehicle...

  • Trailer Running Lights Only Working on Passenger Side with a Kia Soul
  • First, I am showing wiring harness # 118431 for a 2010 Kia Soul, so hopefully that is the one you are using. This sounds like a ground problem on the trailer. The running light circuit is on a different wire than the stop and turn lights, so it makes sense that those are working correctly. On the trailer, take a look at the offending light. Trailer lights usually ground through the mounting studs, unless there is an obvious ground wire. While back there, check that the bulb is intact. In...

  • Towing Capacity for 2006 Jeep Commander V6
  • I looked up the towing capacity for your 2006 Jeep Commander with a V6 and it's 3,500 lbs without any additional components installed. If you need a hitch installed as well we have the Draw Tite part # 75338 which has more than enough capacity. For trailer wiring the part # 118408 will give you the easiest to install and most reliable kit. Since you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch...

  • Brake Controller and Install Recommendation for a 2008 Jeep Commander
  • For a 2008 Jeep Commander that did not come with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector, you will need a few items to install a trailer brake controller, but there isn't a plug in adapter available for your vehicle. First, if your Commander does not already have a 4-Way, you will start by installing one using # 118408. I have included a video showing a typical installation for you. Then you would need a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. This will provide the 7-Way and the...
