Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness. The connection point for the 7-way harness is located behind the rear bumper. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness in your rear cargo area, on the driver's side. You will have to remove the floor covers, cargo trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, insert the included fuses into your fuse panel as indicated in the instructions.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on 1 wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's 3-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Honda Pilot

Today in our 2017 Honda Pilot, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package, with a 7-way Trailer Connector. Part number 118286.To help us with our installation, we're going to be using the Pollak Mounting Bracket and Installation Hardware for a 7-Pole RV-style Trailer Connector. Part number PK12711U.Here's what our wiring is going to look like once we have it installed. It is going to provide us with a 7-way Connector, so we can all have all of the lights going down the road that we need, like our taillights, turn signals, our brake lights awesome our reverse lights and it will provide us a 12 Volt Power Source and an option, if we have a brake controller to control the brakes on our trailer. Our 7-way Connector is going to be compatible with all the adapters like, a four, five or six way and those are sold separately and you can pick them up here at etrailer.com.Our wiring is custom designed for our Pilot that has a Factory Tow Package so we're not going to have to cut or splice into an of our wiring. We're simply going to have a plug on the driver's side and inside the hatch that we're going to plug it into. Our wiring is also going to have a power converter to make sure the lights on our trailer match our Pilot. Now there is going to be a few fuses that are included in the kit that we're going to have to put in place in order for the Tow Package to be activated.

Now that we've seen the end result of our wiring and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we're going to want to open up the rear hatch and we're going to take out the floor covering. I'm going to lift up this panel, I'm going to pull it out and set it out and set it aside. Now, on the driver's side, right underneath our power outlet, we're going to have this access panel. We can take a flat head screwdriver, we'll put it in the notch, we can pop that panel out and that will give us access back here. Now since that is going to be an extremely tight spot, we're looking for a plug that's back here, we're going to go in and loosen up this panel so we can get better access. The top of that panel, we're going to have a tie down hook right here. We'll take a flat head screwdriver and we're going to separate that cover.

It'll have a little strap that's holding it in place, but behind there, we're going to have a bolt that's holding it in. You're going to want to grab an 8mm socket and we can pull that bolt out. We're going to lift up a little bit and we can pull our cargo hook out.Now below that, on the inside, we're going to have another cargo hook. You want to lower the hook down, and then, on the inside, we're going to have a cover that we're going to have to pop out. It's going to be pretty tight and hard to get in there but you're going to want to get a flat head screwdriver and pop it open.Behind that cover, we're going to have a Phillips screw, so you want to grab a Phillips head bit, so we can pull it out.

We'll pull the screw, and our tie down hook out.Now we'll move to the very back where our threshold is, we're going to need to pull that out to give ourselves a little bit of extra room. On the very center here, we're going to have this plate that's going to be going over our latch mechanism. So you want to grab a trump panel tool or a flat head screwdriver, we're going to pop it up, we'll pull it out, that way it won't get damaged and we'll set it aside. Then, if we come to bottom of our threshold, we'll have a small spot where we can hook our finger, we're going to lift up and it'll release the clips and we can set our threshold piece aside. Now, we'll come to our side panel on the driver's side, we're going to pull our weather stripping away so we can get access to that panel behind it. We're just going to grab the panel in the black section and we're going to pull towards the passenger side, releasing those clips.

Pulling that threshold out is going to give us a little bit of wiggle room down here so we can pull the panel away and gain access on the back side.If we reach in, right underneath our seatbelt reel, we'll find this white plug. Now, this is going to be the plug for our harness to plug into. To make things a little bit easier on ourselves, I'm actually going to feed the plug, that has all my wires on it, through our access hole here and then, reach from the back to connect everything together. We'll just feed it in, and we'll go towards our plug that we want to plug into, we can pull our panel away, grab the plug and plug it in. You want to make sure that locks into place, give your wires a quick tug to make sure it does lock in.Just so we can get everything in a little bit easier, we come to bottom where we have our jack tool storage, we'll go out and pull this panel out and we'll set it aside. That will give us access so that we can reach in and feed our wires through so they come out down here. Let's take the end with our electrical tape, we'll feed it down, we can reach in and start pulling all that excess out towards the center here. Now, before we pull it too far in, we do want to connect our ground wire. Now, this is either going to need to go to a flat spot on the sheet metal using a self-tapping screw or we can find an existing bolt and undo it and use that as our ground.I'm going to take a self-tapping screw, I'm actually going to start it right back here behind that panel, that way it will be out of the way. I'll get it started that way it's a little bit easier when I put my ring terminal through, I don't have to worry about dropping it. You want to make sure it's secure enough that that ring terminal is not going to be moving around.I do want to mention the white connector with the single blue wire coming out of it, this is going to plug into the corresponding connector that's going to go with your backup sensors. If yours has this you're going to plug this in, but if yours is like ours where you don't have it, we're simply just not going to be using this connector. Now, we're going to mount our converter box. I'm going to take some of the double sided foam tape, I'm going to remove the backing, we'll stick it directly to the converter box. Then we can remove the backing off of there. I'm going to reach in and stick it directly to the back of the body right behind this panel. It will be nice and secure but it's not going to interfere with anything.Inside that panel, we're going to have this rubber plug in the floorboard right here that we're going to have to pull out. Now our wiring is going to have a grommet that's going to replace that and we're going to run our wire outside to bottom. So you can take a flat blade screwdriver and pop that plug out. Now, we're simply going to take the end that has all the electrical tape and all the bare wires on it, we're going to feed it down through that hole, we're going to push all the slack out until we can get the grommet in place. You just want to make sure you get that grommet fully seated so we don't have to worry about any kind of leaks or water coming inside our vehicle. It is going to be a tight fit so you just kind of want to work that grommet back and forth until it's fully seated in there. With everything connected back here, we'll go ahead and put all of our panels back in place. The wire we dropped down, actually came out on the bottom of the driver's side. Then, I just ran it over towards my hitch because we have a mounting bracket already attached to our hitch that we're going to put our 7-way bracket on.You want to pull all the electrical tape off, so we can expose our wires and the connectors on the back. We'll grab our connector here and we're going to want to put our wires into the corresponding hole. Now, the easiest way to do this if we start with our white wire, it's going to be the largest one, it's going to have the largest fitting in the back. So we'll just take the connector, we're going to line it up, slide it in, making sure that rubber goes all the way in as well and it will lock in place. We're going to follow the diagram that's in our instructions and repeat that for all of our remaining wires. This is what it should look like once you're done. If you have that tab on top, it should be green, then the black, then our brown wire, then our blue wire and then, large, ground wire which is white, then red next to the green and the yellow wire in the center. Now, once we have all those in place, we keeper here, we're going to have it go through, kind of weaving in between the wires. I'll feed it in, these two little tabs are going to go into this two sections here to kind of hold everything nicely in place just like that. With our plug wired up, we can get ready to mount the bracket so we can something to mount our plug to. We'll just drop our hardware down, we'll attach it up, get everything in by hand right now. Then, we can come back and tighten it up after it's on. Just want to make sure that your hardware is nice and tight so the bracket is not going to be loose. Now, we can take our 7-way plug, we'll slide it into position. We'll take our mounting hardware, we want to make sure that we get at least one started. Then, start working our way around, putting the rest of the hardware in place. Then, we can come back and tighten it up.Once the plug in bracket is all secure, I'm going to take my connector, just to put a little bit of dielectric grease in there, that will help prevent water from getting inside and causing a corrosion build up.We'll line up our connector, we can plug it in, making sure it locks into place. We just want to tie up any of the excess wire here, we can either tie it to our hitch or behind the bumper so it's not in the way.We everything buttoned up in the back, we're going to move underneath the hood. Now, towards the driver's side right against the firewall, we're going to have our fusebox. We're going to need to pull the cover off, just push in on the tabs, we can pull the cover off. We're going to need to put in a few fuses so that our wiring is going to work. We're going to take the 30-amp fuse that comes in our kit, we're going to have one spot that's going to be right next to the stud. We're going to insert it there. That's going to be the number two and that's going to be the main trailer power so we'll put that 30-amp there. Then, on the very end here, next to that 10-amp fuse, that's going to be Spot 11 and we're going to put our 20-amp fuse from our kit into that spot. That's going to be labeled, Trailer Charge. Then, next to our 30-amp fuse, next to the 7.5-amp, we're going to put in another 20-amp fuse from our kit, that ones going to be labeled, Trailer E Brake.Once we have all those in place, we can put our cover back on. We're going to test all of our circuits to make sure that they're working properly. I went ahead and plugged in my 7-way tester and, already, we can see that I am getting voltage back here so we know that part is working.I'm go ahead and run my lights and make sure that all those circuits are working properly as well. If I turn my headlights, we can see that my clearance lights are working as well as my left turn signal, my right turn signal and my brakes. We're even going to have our reverse light signal work as well. That will finish up your look at the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package, with a 7-way Trailer Connector. Part number 118286 on our 2017 Honda Pilot.

This harness was very easy to install as far as the wiring fuses go. The video made it very simple. However, the holes on the plug assembly do not match the holes on an OEM hitch mounting bracket for a 2016 Honda Pilot Elite. I bought the hitch assembly separate as I wanted the OEM look with the hitch coming through the bumper. The OEM hitch has a mounting bracket on it, but the holes don't align. I'm either going to have to drill new holes in the mounting bracket or try to attach the assembly to the outside of the bumper. It is currently being held on with zip ties. It would also be nice to have the plug grease added to the components that are provided. 667481

Very easy to install, I just followed along with the installation video and had it completed in around 30 minutes. I have a 2018 Honda Pilot LX and this fit it perfectly. Towed an RV later that afternoon with no issues. Just be sure to have either ordered the mounting bracket in addition to this piece and you should be set. 672260

This kit is perfect, it doesn't hurt that Honda thought to pre-wire the Pilot with plug and play harnesses for trailer wiring kits as well as trailer brake controllers. The kit itself is super high quality, comes with the fuses needed to activate the circuits for trailer lights, trailer charge, and trailer brake controller. The wire ends are even taped together for your convenience for added ease of fishing the wires through the grommet hole in the trunk area. They've thought of everything. The only tiny negative i can mention is that my kit was missing a packet of thermo/electric grease to protect the terminals, again this is very minor. I wouldn't even deduct a star for that because the rest of this kit just hits it out of the park. 10/10 would buy again and install is INSANELY EASY! 364607

I used this wiring kit with the Honda hitch. I would recommend installing the 7-way receptacle to the mounting bracket on the hitch prior to installing the hitch to the car. You will need to drill holes in the mounting bracket on the hitch since the ones on the receptacle don't line-up with the ones on the bracket. I used four stainless steel screws and nuts with nylon inserts to connect everything together. The rest of the installation went just like the video, easy. 710951

Good. I was able to attache the hitch to my 2017 Honda Pilot without any difficulty. However, I had ordered the 7 wire harness which took some time to install. The You tube video I found for the item was very helpful. I am disappointed in the service as I now must order a separate bracket to attach the 7 wire harness outlet to the frame of the hitch. I recognize the need to understand the component parts required as the consumer, however, I emailed the company to ask for guidance and received no reply. It delayed me ordering the product, and created a time crunch, I attempted to change delivery addresses. The customer service agent went out of her way to assure the change had been entered. Much to my dismay, the product was delivered to the original address, requiring me to arrange ground transportation to the new address. I have now sent a second inquiry regrading the bracket and have not heard back. In short, product is great but I am disappointed in the level of service. 422936

One of the pins kept pushing out when connecting the bumper end of the harness. I finally got it but it took a lot of effort. The instructions promised a purple wire in my vehicle to disable the backup sensors but it isn't there. It beeps constantly inside the vehicle when backing a trailer. 609983

Comments
The instructions mention a blue wire, but I dont see anything about a purple wire. If the vehicle is equipped with the backup sensors, the two connectors plug inline with the existing connection shown in figure D in the instructions. The connection shown there would be unplugged, and each connector on the harness would be plugged inline. This will NOT defeat the back up sensors, they will remain active..

The correct 7-way wiring harness for your 2018 Honda Pilot is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118286. In order to mount either connector to the exterior of the vehicle you are going to want to use both part # PK12711U and part # C57202.

Some late-model pickup trucks offer the option of a factory-installed trailer brake controller but a vehicle such as a 2017 Honda Pilot does not. • Is the 7-Way of the Tow Ready Trailer Harness for 2016 Honda Pilot Same as Honda Trailer Connector
The 7-way that comes with the # 118286 is a standard 7-way design that is different from the Honda 7-way harness for your vehicle. This uses a 4-bolt mounting bracket whereas the one that comes from Honda uses a bracket for the 7-way that uses 2 bolts on the bottom of it. This 7-way will still work and could potentially still fit in the cut out area of your Pilot but it may require modification. The one we offer will also be much less expensive.

  • Recommendation for Wiring on a 2016 Honda Pilot
I have a solution for your towing needs. Typically the parts to tow a trailer would be a hitch, a trailer wiring harness, a ballmount and a ball. If you have a heavy trailer with breaks you may need a brake controller and weight distribution. Our first step is taken care of because you already have the Curt Hitch # C13146 which is custom fit for your 2016 Honda Pilot. Next needed is to install wiring to transfer power from your vehicle to the trailer lights. I did some research...

  • Can the 12-Volt Power Circuit on the 2016 Honda Pilots 7-Way Connector Charge a Trailer Battery
The 12 volt power circuit of your 7-way will be able to put a light maintenance charge on it so that it stays topped off while you are travelling. Even though there is a fuse wired on the circuit, most likely a 40 amp fuse, the battery will not supply up to 40 amps of power to the battery. If the battery becomes discharged, hooking the 7-way on your Honda Pilot and driving will not charge the battery. For this you will want to use a battery charger like the CTEK Multi US 7002 12-Volt...
