Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I needed new steel wheels for my 1964 Ford Country Squire wagon, I found exactly what I needed from The wheels are of good quality and come powder coated gloss black, they fit as expected! Thanks

Great looking rim accompanied by baby moon hub caps. Used for a teardrop camper.

They are great wheels. Work great on my 64-1/2 Mustang with 215 R15 60 tires while I waiting on the permanent wheels.

It’s perfect ! I’ve been looking for a rim for my trailer that matches the two wheels I have .
15 inch 5 lug on a 4 1/2” bolt pattern . Thanks !

Added new painted rims and tires with moon caps. Fast and accurate delivery

We purchased a 1962 Shasta camper that came with a standard rim spare tire. We wanted to mount on back bumper and have matching rim/baby moon as the camper. We took the spare tire, new wheel and a set of porta-walls to our local tire shop and now have a great looking spare tire on the back of our camper!

Great product at a great price.

Great wheels, high quality and made in the USA. Looks awesome on my utility trailer.

etrailer was able to ship me a new replacement wheel and baby moon hubcaps in four days after experiencing a flat between Miami and Fort Meyers on the Alligator Alley 1600 miles from home! Since I had to drive a mile and a half on the rim to find a safe place to change the flat I decided to replace the wheel . I’ve had two of these wheels on my trailer for over 18,000 miles with no complaints. Thanks George and etrailer for the fast response.

I received help from etrailer on making the correct choice of wheels for my vintage trailer. I did paint them white. I also bought the Baby Moon Caps. I am very happy with them.

Is this much vere

The rims have performed wonderfully, no rust and looking good.

Lawrence W.

Very good wheels. Have maintained their luster and still look like new.

Looks like a good product.I guess time will tell

I scraped the wheel it didn’t work I was told it would work with disc brakes. I guess I was lye to, but that all right I will not buy any thing else from Etrailer again

Perfect. Fast delivery.

fast shipping, and great product!

I always use etrailer. Fair prices great service.

Wheels arrived yesterday well packaged. Very nice powder coating. High quality wheel.
I didn’t calculate the offset correctly. Will need 1/4” spacers for the 225/70/15 trailer tires. That will work as the lugs are long.
Thanks for the nice customer service and follow up, Mike.
Good customer service is definitely lacking nowadays so it is appreciated and a professional plus.

Product arrived in good shape and exactly as advertised.

Received well packaged product in perfect condition and ready to install. Fast shipping and good quality products

Exactly what I was expecting and ordered. Super fast delivery, and communication throughout the whole process. Thank you!!

Excellent product with fast shipping

Ordered my wheels and was immediately contacted regarding availability. Awesome customer provided. Tracking information and delivery are A+. I highly recommend etrailer. Great product, great service and great people.

No problems at all.

I wanted to replace my factory-installed travel trailer wheels and tires from 14.5" to 15" diameter, plus improve the wear resistance to a Load D rating. We still wanted to maintain the Retro look of our trailer, so we opted for the wheels that supported the original shiny half-moon hubcaps. After receiving all the parts (one damaged hubcap was quickly replaced; I recommend shipping them in a different box than the heavy wheels), I spray-painted the wheels a bright red, to support the original color scheme, then had them mounted and balanced by the local tire shop. I then installed them; they look great!
Paula was a terrific help with the order processing; made it all go quite seamlessly!

After we purchased the wheels and Baby Moon hub caps from you, we took our vintage camper trailer on an eight thousand mile tour of the Southwest. The products performed without any problem and are ready to go again.
Thank you, also for the personal attention you folks gave us at the time of purchase to ensure that we received the correct product the first time.

  • Can Trailer Wheels be Used on a Passenger Vehicle
Technically if the bolt pattern and weight ratings are compatible with your vehicle then you can fit trailer wheels on a car but the biggest problem you are going to have is proper tire placement. Vehicles use wheels with high positive offsets which puts the tire closer to the frame of the vehicle and since trailer wheels are designed to have a zero offset so that there is even tread wear as they tend to deal with heavier loads. Older vehicles used to use conventional steel wheels like...

  • Black Steel Wheel and Baby Moon Hub Cap Recommendation for a 1966 Serro Scotty Canned Ham Trailer
I will start out with your original tire. I did some calculations and the overall diameter of your original 640/15 tire would be approximately 25.48 inches and the width would be 6.4 inches. The diameter of the older tire is most likely why, when the wheels and tires were replaced, someone went with a 13 inch wheel and tire assembly. Newer 15 inch trailer tires all start out at around 27 inches diameter which may pose a contact problem with your trailers fender wells. In addition 15 inch...

  • What Size Trailer Wheel Will Fit a 7.00 x 15 Inch Tire
The closest size to a 7.00x15 tire would be a 225/75-15. These tires can fit on a 6 to 7 inch wide rim. But they are a little taller at 28.4 inches versus 27.88 for a 7.00x15. So basically, going to a 6 inch wide rim would be ideal. The black steel wheel that you have referenced, # AM20504, is a 15x6 inch with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. But it also has a positive 5mm offset meaning the tire will be closer to the trailer frame by 5mm. You would have to make sure you have the available space...

  • What Tire Sizes Fit Dexstar Conventional Trailer Steel Wheel # AM20504
The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20504 that you referenced is a 15 inch diameter wheel with a 6 inch width. All of the standard trailer tire sizes that fit a 15 inch wheel are going to work with this; 225/75-15, 205/75-15, and 7.00-15LT. I attached a link to a page that has all of the options that will fit this wheel. One great option to consider is the Karrier ST225/75R15 # AM10303 . It is a great weight capacity of 2,830 max load at 80 psi.

  • Can Trailer Tires be Moved Further Away from the Trailer Frame
A wheel with an offset has the mounting surface off center so that the tire will be either closer to the trailer or further away depending on if it is a negative or positive offset. Positive offset means that the tire will be CLOSER to the trailer. Negative offset means that the tire will be FURTHER from the trailer. It sounds like you want a negative offset to move the tires a little further away from the trailer. But if the current set up is not making contact with the frame then you...

The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel with Offset - 15" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black # AM20504 is the widest wheel we carry in that diameter with the Conventional wheel design and offset. It is compatible with tires that will be much wider than the 7 inches. The 205/75R15 tire like # AM10245 is 8.1 inches wide. The 225/75R15 tire like # AM10256 is 8.9 inches wide. The 235/75R15 tire like # WST54FR is 9.3 inches wide. All of these tire sizes are compatible with the 15 x 6 Inch wheel.

  • Need 15 Inch Rim With Positive Offset to Decrease Trailer Width
You'd need to find a wheel with a positive offset, which would move the tire closer to the trailer. If your trailer has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern (see linked FAQ article) we offer a conventional wheel with a positive 1/2 inch offset, part # AM20504. This wheel would decrease the width of your trailer by 1 inch. I might be able to find a wheel with a slightly larger offset, but I'd need to know your wheel bolt pattern. If you'd care to reply directly to this email with that information,...

  • Are there Replacement Wheels with a 4 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern for a 1965 Aristrocrat LoLiner
A 4 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern is super uncommon as you have found out. Old Mustangs of the same era used that bolt pattern. Since they are so hard to find I strongly recommend replacing the hubs so you will have a common bolt pattern and easy to find replacement parts. There are even some trailer wheels that will accept the baby moon hub caps. To determine if there are modern hubs that will fit your vintage trailer I will need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the sides...

  • Recommended 15 Inch Conventional Steel Wheel and Baby Moon Caps for Trailer
For a 15 inch conventional steel wheel with a 5 bolt pattern, I recommend looking at the Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20504. This black powder coated, 15 inch steel trailer wheel features a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. You will just want to make sure this matches the bolt pattern of your existing hubs. I have included an article that explains how to measure this. This particular wheel has a weight capacity of 1,820 pounds. This means the combined load capacity of all 4 wheels...

  • Compatibility of Conventional Wheels With 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ For Vintage
The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel with Offset - 15" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black # AM20504 will work on a vehicle. Many vintage cars and trucks will use these wheels along with the baby moon # AM90086 or # AM981306. You may or may not want those with the olive drab paint. The bolt pattern on older Jeeps is normally 5 on 4-1/2 inches but on some Jeeps it is 5 on 5 inch so I recommend checking the bolt pattern. I believe the 1999 TJ models have the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern but it is...

The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel + 1/2 inch Offset - 15 x 6 inch Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black, item # AM20504, has a weight capacity of 1870 lbs. and would work great on your 7000 lb. GVW trailer. The only concern is the 1/2 inch positive offset of the wheel. Trailer wheels are designed this way to carry the loads required of them. The 1/2 inch positive offset...

  • Would the Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel Replace Wheel on 1960s Shasta Camper Trailer
It looks like your current wheel has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern, but you will need to verify that by measuring between two adjacent wheel studs. If that distance is 2-5/8 inches you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern like the # AM20504 that you referenced. Aside from that the # AM20504 does match what you need as it is a 15 inch diameter wheel that is 6 inches wide.

  • Are There Any Wheels with 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern That Accept Baby Moon Hub Caps
The vast majority of trailer wheels use a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern like the Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheels part # AM20504 which are designed to accept the Americana Baby Moon Trailer Wheel Center Cap part # AM90086. Therefore, in order to use this style of wheel you'll need to switch to a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. Since you have the Timbren 2K Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension you can do this with either the Dexter Hub part # 84545UC1-EZ or Dexter Hub and Drum part # 84546UC3-EZ. .
