When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

  • Replacement Shock for Titan Model 10 Actuator to Fix Banging When Starting and Stopping
If you are getting consistent banging when you are starting and stopping, it sounds like what you need is a new shock for your actuator. If you have the Model 10 Titan Brake Actuator # T4749600 you referenced, the replacement shock you need is the Replacement Shock for Titan Model 6 and 10 Brake Actuators # T1242600. I've added a link to a video review for you to check out as well.

  • Replacement Shock for Dexter Model 10 Actuator
The Dexter actuator part # T4749600 is a Model 10 actuator so for a replacement shock the correct part number is the # T1242600. If you have a dual shock setup you might actually have a different actuator though.

  • What Is Top Width Of The Titan Brake Actuator T4749600?
The top width of the Titan Brake Actuator - Painted - Disc - 2-5/16" Ball - Weld On - 12,500 lbs # T4749600 you were looking at measures right at 4" as shown in the included diagram. This will be the exact same dimension as the # T1607500, but you will need the # T4749600 for disc brakes as it has higher pressure which is required for disc brakes. The # T4749600 will be an exact replacement for the # T1607500 if that is what you have on your trailer, and is designed to fit 3" wide tongues...

  • Replacement Shock for Model 10/6 Actuator on Trailer
The good news is that the Model 19 and Model 6 Titan/Dexter actuators use the same shock so you'll want the part # T1242600. The two big bolts on the side of the actuator need to come off so that you can slide out the inner member and access the shock.

  • Actuator Solution that Can Fit 4 inch Wide Tongue
You could weld an actuator like the Dexter Drum Brake Actuator part # T1607500 to the top of your trailer tongue but there isn't one that fits around a 4 inch wide tongue. If your brakes are disc instead you'd want the part # T4749600.

  • Will the Titan Brake Actuator T4749600 Allow for Reversing Uphill
The Titan Brake Actuator part # T4749600 does not come with a lockout so in order to reverse you'll need to install a lockout solenoid, the Replacement Solenoid Valve for Titan Brake Actuators with Reverse Lockouts part # T4748800. This would also require a 5-way trailer connector so you'll also need the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter part # C57187 and Hopkins Wiring Harness part # HM37918. That said, in regards to uphill reversing you'll need to do so very slowly as left over fluid in...

  • Trailer Surge Brake Actuator Option For 3-1/2 Inch Wide Trailer Frame
Almost all trailer brake actuators are designed for 3 inch wide trailer frames, the only option would be to weld a coupler on top of your 3-1/2 inch frame. The issue with this for you is that the options for those only accept a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball, so if it all possible you would need to switch to that, with either the 1 inch diameter shank 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40005 or 1-1/4 inch diameter shank 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40030. If you can go to the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball, then you can...
