I got this to Flat Tow my Jeep in the near future. I needed the 5" rise and now the tow bar is almost parallel to the ground. Although the etrailer.com site said this was an economy unit, I am very impressed with the look and feel of the unit. It handles up to 12,000lbs! Nothing economy about it except the very fair price!!! The pictures and video, along with the measurements helped ensure the fit would be perfect and it is! I got a 1" rise ball good for 6000lbs to make the tow bar perfectly parallel. Thanks etrailer I will always shop etrailer first when looking for this type of equipment.

I bought a new truck with twice the towing capacity of my SUV. I needed a 6" drop instead of my original 3" drop, so I bought one with a 12,000 capacity. Very nice.

Working out just fine....no issues of any kind

by:

Great hitch. Seems to not rust as quickly as others. I have to use it upside down because my boat trailer is so tall, but it works just fine.

by:

Nice product, extremely fast shipping and reasonable price! The 450 ft-lb torque for the mounting nut was an expected challenge--one needs some very large wrenches to properly mount the heavy-duty ball.

Still love it! We use it several times a week.

Very well built Ball Mount!

by:

Way better quality than I thought looking at this hitch online. I did not realize that it was so heavy duty. But upon seeing it I am glad that it is. I had to purchase a 2" ball with a larger shaft to go with the hitch, and again I am glad that I did. I bought this to haul a 21' boat and this hitch is more than I could have asked for
Thank you

by:

This hitch appears to be very heavy duty. It is very heavy. The only thing I did not care for is that the hole for the ball shank to go through is forged, not drilled. The hole is too large and is tapered. It would be much better if the hole for the ball to mount was drilled the correct size. Some of the other reviews mentioned this as well. Would not cost a lot to make the change. Otherwise looks very good. Square shape is solid steel, not steel tubing.

Excellent. Very well built and can pull a heavy load.

by:

The hole for the ball is listed for a 1 and a quarter ball, but it measures 1 and a quarter on the top, and 1 and three eights at the bottom. I called and the etrailer rep called the manufacturer, and was told that the hole is punched hence the inconsistency, but they have had no problems with it. I am returning the product because I am concerned it will cause stress on the ball over time and possibly cause it to fail.

by:

Well made ball mount. I have another with a different drop and it has been flawless... Solid construction with nice added gusset for additional strength. Was backordered but well worth the wait for restock !

by:

Product was exactly as described!!! Very heavy duty hitch!

by:

this thing is built tough! It can also double as a boat anchor, it weighs 22 pounds!

by:

A real solid quality hitch mount.

  • Recommended Ball Mount for Ram 2500 with 5 Inch Lift to Pull 9,500 Pound Trailer
In order to keep your trailer level with your newly lifted Ram 2500 your best option will be to go with a ball mount that features the needed drop. For this I recommend the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 4282. This is compatible with 2 inch hitch receivers and it features a 6 inch drop just like the Blue Ox Tow Bar Receiver you were looking at. It has a 12,000 pound towing weight capacity so it will handle your camper without a problem. Its zinc finish will also provide excellent rust protection....

  • 2 inch Hitch Ball Mount Recommendation for 5 inches of Rise and 2 inch Ball
For a ball mount that will fit a Class III 2 inch ball mount that has 5 inches of rise you would want the Ball Mount part # 4282. For a 2 inch ball to fit this ball mount you would want the part # A-90

  • How to Pick out a Ball Mount for 2012 Ford F350 with FX4 Off Road Package
I attached an FAQ article on how to pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount for a towing setup. Since you measured to the bottom of the hitch opening you will want to add 2 inches to that figure since it is recommended to measure to the top of the opening. So that gives you 23 inches minus 16 which gives equals 7. Since we do not carry a 7 inch drop ball mount I would recommend you go with a 6 inch drop like the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 4282. Once the suspension of your truck compresses...

  • Ball Mount Kit To Allow 17 inch Tall Trailer to Be Towed Level with 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan
When we installed the hitch part # 75579 on a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan we found that the hitch height from the ground to the top of the hitch opening was 12-3/4 inches. To allow a trailer with a 17 inch coupler height to be towed level you would need 5-1/4 inches of rise. So instead for a ball mount you would want the part # 4282. Then for hitch balls part # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or part # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.

  • Recommended Ball Mount with 6 Inch Drop That Won't Stick Out Further Than 10 Inches From Receiver
I can understand the concern with using a ball mount with a drop and a longer shank possibly creating a situation where it's more likely to contact the ground. I'll start by saying that the Curt Multi-Ball # D900 is a fairly standard length when it comes to an adjustable ball mount; there are some that come with a longer shank but the roughly 15" total distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball is fairly standard. Since you're looking to bring the hitch...

  • Weight Distribution Shank or Ball Mount with 6 Inches of Drop to Tow Trailer Level
It sounds like the trailer has a weight distribution system. You would just need a weight distribution shank that offers more drop such as # C17123 for a 2 inch hitch receiver or # EQ90-02-4900 for a 2-1/2 inch hitch. If the trailer does not have weight distribution then you will just need a ball mount that has the proper amount of drop or an adjustable ball mount. For a fixed ball mount with 6 inches of drop for a 2 inch hitch you can use # 4282. For a 2-1/2 inch hitch you can use cushioned...
