Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System - MPG908

The anti rattle device pictured has a 1/2" U-bolt and the plate is 5/16" thick which makes it a very stout (meaning "not flimsy") tool for making the ball mount and receiver hitch into a one piece unit eliminating that clunking and rattling normally heard when starting, stopping and going over bumps. It's another example of how something so simple can be so useful. Since installing it, I've used the trailer on several runs and no longer have that rattling sound telescoping through the tow vehicle. I do consider it's purchase "money well spent for a quality product". 638493

I had to add a hitch extender on my wrangler for my bike rack to clear the spare. This caused a lot of play and the rack would bounce side to side on certain bumps and it made me nervous. I ordered this to stop the play in the extender and it did exactly that, it’s rock solid now. It was a little difficult to fit, but that was due to how close everything was with my extender and the factory hitch. But I got it to work and it’s solid as a rock now. Parts seem very sturdy and high quality! I’ve made multiple purchases from etrailer now and their service is always top notch with prompt shipping! 939162

Ask the Experts about this Malone Hitch Anti-Rattle

  • Need Larger Version of Malone MPG908 Anti-Rattle Device for 2-1/2 Inch Receiver
Malone doesn't make that particular anti-rattle device in a size for a 2-1/2 inch receiver, but might have a thing or two that could work for you. Take a look at the Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp, part # 325-GH-063. The wedge portion is 1 inch long as you see in the photo, but it's tapered so it'll wedge in between the ball mount or hitch accessory shank and the receiver tube. The Roadmaster Quiet Hitch, part # RM-062 is another possibility, the u-bolt portion is 15/32 of an inch thick. From...

  • Will The Curve In The Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock Plate Dig Into The Hitch Receiver
The curve in the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System part # MPG908 is designed for extra stability to not allow the shank of the accessory to move up and down. It is what holds the shank of accessory tight. I have attached a photo of how this is supposed to be installed between the hitch collar and the shank of the accessory. The curved portion of the Malone Anti-rattle will not touch the hitch.

  • Can the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System Be Used With a Weight Distribution System
The Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System part # MPG908 will help hold the shank of the weight distribution system inside the receiver tube more securely. Therefore, you won't have as much side to side or front to back movement with the shank portion. I have attached a photo of this device used with a weight distribution system. The only disadvantage of this is that it is an extra step each time you go to install or remove the shank. If you are having issues with your weight distribution...

  • Can Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System Be Used with Aluminum Ball Mount
Yes, the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System # MPG908 will work really well with an aluminum ball mount like the Fastway # DTBM4200 that you referenced. This is simply going to tighten up the attachment point between the ball mount and hitch receiver so that you don't get all that movement you described during travel. I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well.

  • How to Reduce Rattle Coming From a Cushioned Ball Mount
The Malone Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock System, # MPG908, would work well with your Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount, # AMSC8. The Malone anti-rattle device will help stop the unwanted movement between the ball mount and your vehicle's receiver hitch. However, by using an anti-rattle device on this ball mount you will loose most of the cushioned function of the your ball mount.

  • Removing Noise And Rattle From 2" Hitch Receiver Tubes
I do have a solution for you. It sounds like you're searching for a product that will remove the 'play' in your 2" hitch when things are hooked up. Apparently you have 3/16" of play in the receive tube on all sides, which means whatever you're hooking up is able to be installed, but slides around a lot and likely makes some unwanted noise as well. The Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System # MPG908 is designed to tighten things up nicely. I've linked a helpful video that shows the best...

  • What Is a Good Anti-Rattle Device for an 18 Inch Hitch Extender
Yes the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System # MPG908 can work with the Curt Hitch Extender # C45796. In most applications a small amount of space rests between the larger portion of the extender and the collar of your vehicles hitch. The distance between the pin hole of the extender and the larger section of the extender is 3". This allows some room for the U-Bolt of the Malone anti-rattle device to fit. With the u-bolt being 1/2" in diameter you would only need 2-1/2" from the center...

  • How to Secure Loose Fit for Trailer Hitch Adapter
Trailer hitches as well as adapters have some tolerances that means they may not be exact in regards to the opening being 2 inches or an adapter being fully 2 inches such as you may be seeing with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13392. So what you are experiencing is not irregular and there isn't a 2" to 1-1/4" adapter that is a full 2 inches, they will all likely be just slightly smaller to accommodate a hitch opening. The only way to counteract a loose fit is to use an anti-rattle...

  • Locking Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin For Use with Curt Dual Ball Mount
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're asking if the hitch pin on the MaxxTow MaxxHaul Aluminum Motorcycle Carrier # MT70101 will work with the Curt # D210; the answer to that question is yes. The hitch pin will work on the 2" receiver of the Curt # D210. Your best bet to eliminate sway on your dual receiver is by using something like the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System # MPG908 in conjunction with the hitch pin to help eliminate sway and rattle on the upper receiver. If you're...

  • Is There A Standard Size for a 2 Inch Receiver
As you've discovered, a 2 inch receiver doesn't always measure exactly two inches by two inches. There is a manufacturing tolerance involved that allows the receiver to be a few hundredths of an inches larger or smaller than 2 inches, but still be within tolerance. Due to the fact that the connection between a hitch receiver and the shank of a ball mount or hitch mounted accessory isn't meant to be a precision fit, the tolerances are generous. These tolerances are common in manufactured...

  • Best Hitch Mounted Bike Rack for Jeep Wrangler With Spare Tire
I have a solution for you. The Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9034XT clears your spare tire if you use the Curt Hitch Extender # C45791. I attached a video we made with a similar setup to yours. The only difference is we didn't have a spare tire cover and our hitch was an after-market hitch that stuck out an inch or two further than yours. We used the Curt Extender and the Thule XTB and had plenty of clearance. The extender doesn't come with a pin and clip to secure it to...
