Video Transcript for Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System Review

AJ: What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the Malone Anti-Rattle System. You can see, we got a ball mount set up here. What this does is it takes the shake and play out of the ball mount or cargo carrier or bike rack when you're going on the road. You see that movement. You got a little bit up and down, side to side.

It makes a lot of noise, kind of annoying, and you don't want to hear that stuff while you're towing. So we're going to install this on here and show you how much it takes away. Now, there's two ways we can get this done. You can drop the U-bolt down, add the plate, and try and get the hardware on while the ball is still in the hitch here, or you can do it this way, which I found to be a way easier. You kind of assemble it here, and then we're going to slide it on the ball mount. We added our washer, our lock nut, and our nut, as you can see at the very bottom.

We just kind of got it started, leave it loose so you can do this and pull the ball mount out. Slide it on that way. Then line up your hole. It's way easier than trying to get down here and hold the lock nut and the washer and then add the nut. I just found this easier, and it's quicker too once you get it set up.

I mean, it's going to be easy to transfer this to a cargo carrier or a bike rack.Once we've got it on our ball mount, let's throw our pin back in too. Now, we're going to tighten it down. Now, when you put this bottom plate on there, make sure that the part that's going up is going up and around the lip of your hitch. Go ahead and hand tighten this down before I start using the ratchet. Do it evenly or as evenly as you can.

Now ready for the ratchet. With it fully tied down, let's check it out. As you can see, I'm shaking the whole truck here. This ball mount's not moving anymore. With it installed, we can take a closer look at it. You've got the heavy-duty construction U-bolt right here on top with a black powder coat finish plate on the bottom. So that means they're going to hold up when you leave them on the back of your truck. You don't have to worry about weather or anything like that eroding it and causing rust. It'll be fine. I like the simplistic design because you know how it works and how it fits on there very easily. Some of the other ones, there's a bunch of moving other little parts and it limits you on what kind of shanks you can use. This one goes along the outside of the shank so you're not limited to hollow shanks. The anti-rattle hitch pin has a little block with a spring on the inside that has to go into hollow shank, and you have to line that up.That's just, it's a lot going on. Not to mention again, limits you on what shanks you can use it on, and if you lose that block with a spring on it, you have to buy a new one from online or something like that. That's not going to be at your hardware store. If you lose the hardware on this one, it's an easy trip to the hardware store to get the nut, the lock washer or the washer. With our etrailer aluminum cargo carrier installed, we're going to add the anti-rattle device and see how much shake and play it takes out of it. As you can see, it being aluminum light, it moves around a whole bunch here in the back of your hitch. Let's get the anti-rattle device installed and see what it does. With it fully tightened down, let's check it out. Oh yeah. Moves way less than it did before. That just shows you that a simple design works. So whether you're using it with a cargo carrier or a bike rack or a ball mount, it's going to get the job done. That does it for our look at the Malone Anti-Rattle Device. Hope this helped..

I can’t believe how much quieter it is pulling my boat now! Very easy installation, less than 5 minutes! You guys need to advertise these more, put them on your front page. I never knew they existed, until my fishing buddy ordered one 2 weeks ago.

Still the best thing since sliced bread.

I put the trailer hitch "tightener" on my distribution hitch that had a lot of movement, the slight 1/16 in movement left/ right /up/ down made a lot of noise and contributed to my trailer swaying. Once I installed it, in under ten minutes, I could not budge the hitch at all making for a nice tight fit, no noise, no added sway. I highly recommend this for anyone hauling heavy trailers for any distance.

Comments
It still works great, I never take the hitch off my truck so I do have to check the nuts before towing, but still no shifting of the trailer at all

Quick delivery and very high quality. The plate is heavy and should be very durable. Works well to remove the rattle in my hitch just as advertised.

I bought this so my hitch wouldn't rattle/ I used it and when tightening so it would do its job the nuts and angle bent the metal shafts with the nuts on it. I used it for a trip and it would come loose. So I retightened it and used a second nut to stop the first one from coming loose(didn't work). I called and customer service was great and is great anytimeI call them. They sent me a second Anti- rattle system to replace the first. It does the same thing and I have just left it alone and just constantly retighten the nuts. It does work on having no rattle when it is tight. But after a ride or two you can still get noise but a little less than having nothing. I wouldn't buy this again but if you have it and are having the same issue I am having, well just think it could be worse.

Great little device on long trips it pays to both of us things down keeps that hitch from rattling I like it a lot it sits in my truck ready every time whenever I put a hitch on

- MPG908
by:

The anti rattle device pictured has a 1/2" U-bolt and the plate is 5/16" thick which makes it a very stout (meaning "not flimsy") tool for making the ball mount and receiver hitch into a one piece unit eliminating that clunking and rattling normally heard when starting, stopping and going over bumps. It's another example of how something so simple can be so useful. Since installing it, I've used the trailer on several runs and no longer have that rattling sound telescoping through the tow vehicle. I do consider it's purchase "money well spent for a quality product".

- MPG908
by:

After installing, the hitch began to rattle. I torqued it again. Shortly thereafter, it began ratting again. This has been repeated many times now distorting the U bolt and it still rattles.

- MPG908
by:

Works as advertised! I’ve used it on several trips totaling 3000+ miles. It is an extra step needed to install/remove the hitch but well worth the effort.

- MPG908
by:

It kept loosing up. Had to tighten it at every stop. Purchased another brand, with two square U-Bolts, which works much better.

- MPG908
by:

I am very satisfied with this setup supplied by etrailer.com. FYI, don't skimp on getting this little (heavy duty) part as it keeps the racket down in the back. It can actually be considered a necessity in my opinion as without it there's a whole lot of clankin' and bangin' goin on without it. Just sayin. Thanks folks (at etrailer.com)

- MPG908
by:

It worked great the first couple of times I used it. Now, I cannot get it tight enough to eliminate the hitch from sliding in the receiver.

- MPG908
by:

Simple to use and works as intended. Very happy with the product and definitely reduces the amount of rattling and sway for our bike rack!

I recommend Etrailer to anyone needing ANYTHING pertaining to trailers and hitches. These anti rattle brackets stopped all the noise coming from the back of our motorhome. I had to use an 18 inch extension which by the way is a BEAST and needed two anti rattle brackets. No more rattles! Etrailer suggested them and didn't try to sell me anything else. Really admire this company!

I had to add a hitch extender on my wrangler for my bike rack to clear the spare. This caused a lot of play and the rack would bounce side to side on certain bumps and it made me nervous. I ordered this to stop the play in the extender and it did exactly that, it’s rock solid now. It was a little difficult to fit, but that was due to how close everything was with my extender and the factory hitch. But I got it to work and it’s solid as a rock now. Parts seem very sturdy and high quality! I’ve made multiple purchases from etrailer now and their service is always top notch with prompt shipping!

Use this for my Jeep Rubicon bike rack to fit with the oversized spare tire. Works awesome.

- MPG908

This is the 2nd hitch-quieter I bought. I use this solely for the bike rack and it works very well. (on the back of the Crosstrek and also the back of fiberglass RV) I did try to use it on the Subaru Ascent for RV towing but it does not work as well. Still got a bit too much bounce and bucking vs. hitch-quieter with a crossbar style.

I found this to be the best product to get rid any play in a receiver type hitch. Very stout!

  • Need Larger Version of Malone MPG908 Anti-Rattle Device for 2-1/2 Inch Receiver
Malone doesn't make that particular anti-rattle device in a size for a 2-1/2 inch receiver, but might have a thing or two that could work for you. Take a look at the Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp, part # 325-GH-063. The wedge portion is 1 inch long as you see in the photo, but it's tapered so it'll wedge in between the ball mount or hitch accessory shank and the receiver tube. The Roadmaster Quiet Hitch, part # RM-062 is another possibility, the u-bolt portion is 15/32 of an inch thick. From...

Yes. You can use the Malone Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock System # MPG908 to help reduce/eliminate rattle between your receiver and ball mount when towing your travel trailer. With that said, my preferred solution for this is the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 because it's a little more sturdy. It is what holds the shank of accessory tight. I have attached a photo of how this is supposed to be installed between the hitch collar and the shank of the accessory. The curved portion of the Malone Anti-rattle will not touch the hitch.

Yes, the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System # MPG908 will work really well with an aluminum ball mount like the Fastway # DTBM4200 that you referenced. The bolts used are 3/8 inch diameter, 3 inch long carriage bolts so they are by no means too small for the 300 pound capacity of the carrier.
