Looks beefy enough for my needs. Inaugural use not for a couple weeks yet. 886871

Still performing excellently after a year. This draw bar is much stronger than we even need, but it gave us the two extra inches of length needed to clear the bumper, so we could install the Curt hitch-mounted clamp-on bike rack, also purchased here & working well. 880168

After owning this draw bar for one year it still looks like new and is performing very well. I would definitely recommend this product. 860277

Needed an extended length hitch to mount a set of additional rear mud flaps on our Dually when hauling our goose-neck LQ. Thought, why not get one that was capable of towing our two horse trailer as well. This hitch was just the right ticket. Love ordering from etrailer. Their site is easy to navigate and their service is awesome.. 756345

It could have been packaged better because this thing is not light and I am sure it gets banged around. I use aluminum hitches, but my boat is almost 5000K lbs and this is on the front receiver I put on, so I can push it into place. SO much easier on everything. I flipped this over as well to give me more height. The coating will help it from rusting. Will it? Don't know, just got it. Its definitely built well and I would not be surprised if this thing would tow much greater than its rated capacity. It does look somewhat like aluminum and I like that to match my Weigh Safe hitch on the back, which is awesome by the way. I would have got another one for the front, but the shank needed to be longer to extend past the bumper and clear for the boat tongue. This looks much better than black. Hoping it will not rust or not rust for a while. Its heavy. Its well built and should be to take the extra stress of having a longer neck portion. Its a good way to go if you have a heavy boat, have a front hitch (bolted to the frame) and need something that sturdy. 641642

Comments
the extra length gives me enough leeway so I don’t dent the storage box mounted on the tongue if the trailer. I also like how heavy duty it is. Great piece of mind while towing a heavy load.

The longer length allowed tighter turns. Now the ladder on the back of the coach does not hit the trailer on tight turns. It would be nice if it was available as a 2 1/2 mount so I would not need a 2 to 2 1/2 adapter. 590324

Second one I now own ...bought this one for the same reason I bought the first one, it is by far the best ball mount for my situation. Now I don't have to keep swapping out the ball mount to my other vehicle...they both have their own dedicated mounts. 196361

I was concerned about the sturdiness of an extended length ball mount. The shaft is solid steel and the rise/drop is extra wide and thick. No concerns at all. 146231

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

  • Recommended 16 Inch Long Ball Mount with 12,000 Lb Weight Capacity
I do have options for you but the longer you extend the connection point from the trailer hitch, the less capacity you will have. That said, they do not offer a ball mount that is 16" long (center of hitch pin hole to center of ball hole) and offers a 12,000 lb weight capacity. I do have an extended shank ball mount that has a 12,000 lb weight capacity, the Draw-Tite Ball Mount part # 4285 but it is only 12" long when measuring from the center of hitch pin hole to center of ball hole. • Recommended Ball Mount With Longer Shank To Accommodate Rock Tamer Mud Flaps
The Rapid Hitch Adjustable Ball Mount, part # AM3410 measures 3-3/8 inches from the back of the ball assembly to the closest pin hole and 4-3/8 inches to the furthers hole on the shank. This has a maximum rise of 6-1/2 inches and a maximum drop of 5-1/2 inches and has a towing capacity of 8,000 when using the 2 inch ball and 10,000 when using the 2-5/16 inch ball. I have attached a product review video you can check out. We have a couple fixed ball mounts that may work for you. The...

  • Material and Construction of Draw-Tite 2 Inch Ball Mount # 4285
The Draw-Tite Ball Mount, # 4285, does not include a gusset welded between the shank and platform. Basically, it is not needed. This ball mount is constructed of solid steel. The shank is solid with the only hole in it for the hitch pin. It is welded to the platform which is also solid steel. All of this solid steel construction makes for a heavy ball mount. This one weighs in at over 19 pounds. It is heavy duty enough to earn its 12,000 pound capacity. I also made a short video showing...

  • Could Draw Tite Ball Mount 4285 Give Clearance to Allow Tailgate to Fall
To determine if the # 4285 is long enough to allow you the tailgate clearance you need you'll need to take a couple measurements. First you'll need to determine how much additional length would be needed to allow the tailgate to clear. Next you'll need to measure the distance between the hitch pin hole of the ball mount and the ball hole center and you'll add that to the previous dimension you took and you'll know what length ball mount you'd need. The # 4285 is 12 inches between hole centers...

  • What is the Distance from Pin Hole to Weld on Aluminum Ball Mount # 4285
I went out to the warehouse and pulled ball mount # 4285 to measure it. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the weld it measures approximately 7-1/2 inches. This is more than enough to suit your length requirements. This ball mount is a solid hunk of aluminum with a tongue weight capacity of 1,200 pounds and gross trailer weight capacity of 12,000 pounds. I made a video and a picture showing the measurement for you.

  • Ball Mount And Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2010 Toyota Tundra
The closest fixed ball mount we have to a 2 inch rise is the Ball Mount 2-3/4 inch Rise or 4 inch Drop, 6,000 lbs, item # 2753. We also have the Cushioned Ball Mount 2-3/4 inch Rise or 4 inch Drop, item # AMSC4. If you need a higher rated ball mount for your towing needs the # AMSC4 ball mount has a 10,000 pound capacity. I would recommend the higher 2-3/4 inch ball mount to allow for a bit of rear end sag when a trailer is attached. We have several 2-5/16 inch balls, you will need...

The closest thing we have to a 14 inch version of the Ball Mount part # 4285 that you referenced is the Ball Mount part # D-28. This ball mount has a 4 inch rise or a 6 inch drop and is 14-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. • How to Choose Correct Rise/Drop in a Ball Mount to Tow Level Enclosed Tandem Axle Trailer
To select the correct ball mount that will allow you to tow level, you must take two measurements into consideration. First, measure from the ground (on level ground) to the top inside portion of your square hitch receiver opening. Second, measure from the ground (on level ground) to the bottom flat portion of your trailer coupler. Using a trailer level like the Hopkins Cross-Check Trailer Level # HM09615 will help ensure you get the most accurate measurements. Next, simply calculate...

The weight capacity will vary depending on the length and amount of gussets or reinforcements that are used. • Trailer Hitch Extension Needed to Allow Tailgate to be Lowered with Trailer Attached to Vehicle
I would not recommend any type of extension with your towing setup. Extenders create more torque on the vehicle frame, hitch, drawbar, extender and hitch ball because of the extension, just like adding a pipe to the end of a breaker bar. This added torque reduces that weight capacity of all of the components in the system by 50 percent, so your vehicles 10 K capacity would be lowered to 5 K if a hitch extension is used. I would go with a long ball mount that is just long enough so you...

  • Looking For Ballmount With 3-1/4 Inch Rise or Drop
I'm guessing you're looking for a ball mount with a 3-1/4 inch rise or drop, is that correct? The Draw-Tite # 4285 would be perfect for your needs. The ball mount provides 3 inches of rise or 4 inches of drop and a 12,000 lb capacity. As long as your trailer tongue is within 1-2 inches of being level, you're plenty close enough. For a 2 inch trailer ball, use part # A-90 or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

  • Long Shank Ball Mount for Added Clearance While Towing
I'm assuming that you are asking about length of the ball mount and not the drop or rise. The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # AMSC4 is 12 1/4 inches in length from the end of the shank to the center of the ball hole, and 9 3/4" from hitch pin hole to the hitch ball hole. If you are needing a longer ball mount than that to have additional clearance we do have other options. For a fixed ball mount that has close to the same ratings and rise and drop measurements I recommend...

The problem is that the hitch receiver has more rounded corners than a lot of accessories that have more square corners. If so, that is not meant for any heavy duty towing but can be used for very light duty- say a light motorcycle trailer or something of the sort (generally anything less than 1000-lbs). You can install a hitch ball and tow with that, as opposed to using a hitch receiver that would normally...
