Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the 2-Pole Socket Connector

Today, we'll be reviewing part number PK12801. This is the Pollak 2-pole socket connector. This is rated for 200 amps, providing six to 24 volts. This will accommodate four or six gauge wires. It's going to be made from a cast aluminum construction. If you need a mounting bracket, you can purchase one separately, found on etrailer.com with part number PK11771. See here that the lid is a nice spring-loaded lid so it's always going to make sure that our connection points on the inside are protected from the elements.

Back here, the two connections, we have positive and negative so they're labeled on the outside. They're also going to be labeled on the inside. The holes are going to measure half an inch across by three-eights of an inch up and down. Each holes going to be identical. Those are going to be your mounting holes. That's going to do it for today's review of part number PK12801.

This is the Pollak 2-pole socket connector. .

Pollak 2-Pole Socket Connector - Vehicle End

by:

We mounted these on our fleets pickup trucks to allow us to hook a trailer mounted winch right into the truck battery easily. The product has been outside and used multiple times and shows no sign of wear or deterioration after 1 year. We are very pleased.

by:

I am going to use this to power my new electric boat winch. I have not actually loaded my boat yet but in getting it all set up this plug will work perfectly. I made a mount that will hold both this plug and the 7 pin plug for the trailer. I was surprised as to how stout these plugs are, look like very good quality.

by:

This is a great product. I use it for powering my electric boat winch with the truck. No more carrying an additional battery for the winch.

When I put my Torquelift SuperTruss on, I have made an extension with this and have it on the end of the extension so I do not have to climb under the camper to hook up the power.

by:

Excellent quality, really heavy duty. Exactly what we were looking for. It arrived a day early

by:

product is great quality, very fast shipping. would highly recommend, will visit site when i need trailer parts.

quality product still excellent working condition.

I've been looking for a connector for 2 4 ga wires for 9 mo. I know I'm not the only one trying to do this, I have ran into several people at stores looking for the same thing with no results. I found this one looks like it'll fit the bill for connecting my trailer to my tow vehicle with wiring large enough to actually charge the trailer battery. It came fast, and was all I had expected. I also bought the trailer side connection and the bracket to mount it with. Should be an awesome set up thanks to etrailer

by:

Good product. My only complaint is the spring that holds the door down is weak. The door is also the "catch" that retains the cord, so it needs to stay firmly against the top of the cord, and this one doesn't always do so.

by:

Used this product to transfer power to my fifth wheel

It was installed in the back of my 3500 ram beside the factory connector

by:

Very good quality and heavy duty. Much better than plastic connector. Should last for years.

by:

Two pole connectors are difficult to find. etrailer had exactly what I needed.

by:

Pollak is my go to manufacturer for trailer electrical needs. The build affordable and robust items.

by:

Was a perfect replacement for the old burned out lights on my Featherlite stock trailer!!!

by:

Just what I needed to charge trailer batteries. Thanks

by:

i am disabled this was ordered to hook up lift and is what i planed to use it jn the installation of same

by:

I was able to put connectors on my wires that easily attached to the posts on the back of this plug. It fits snugly and securely, preventing shorting out. I am pleased with the quality of this product.

by:

It works great, I have ordered another one

by:

they are working as i expect them to with no problems.

by:

Works good. Took a while for the part to arrive. Hopefully no one is in a big hurry to get it.

by:

Product was what I wanted and worked gr eat.

by:

Well made socket, reasonably priced, but shipping is very slow!!!!

The Pollak 2-pole trailer and vehicle connectors # PK12800, and # PK12801 and Buyers products 2-pole trailer and vehicle end connectors # 337TC2012 and # 337TC1002 are very similar in quality, and there is not one that is clearly better than the other. I recommend just going with which ever one is the most cost effective at the time. I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.

  • Recommended Solar Panel Connection for Furrion Prewired Solar Connection on Trailer
The 2.5-Watt Solar Battery Charger # PTW2997 is a great option for your solar charging needs on the go. This product will not completely supply the needs of your Furrion camera system but can be used along with a battery to charge the battery so the battery can power the unit. I recommend the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger - Dual Input - DC to DC - 12V/24V - 25 Amp # 331-BCDC1225D which will allow you to have power from a solar panel amplified and will amplify the trailer battery...

I spoke with my contact at Pollak and he informed me that this 2-Pole Trailer Connector is designed to be soldered to 4-6 gauge wire. In order to accomplish that you will need to take the unit apart and remove each terminal from the plastic housing and solder each of the connectors individually. • Parts Needed For Running A High Capacity Charge Line To Trailer
Yes, you will need to run a separate ground wire with the main power wire. So it would be best to use the Pollak 2-Pole Socket Connector # PK12801 with their 2-Pole Trailer Wiring Connector # PK12800 for your power wires. The physical connection from the ball mount will not work as an acceptable ground connection. I recommend using battery cable as a suitable cable for the power wires. • Will the 7-Pole Rubber Socket Boot Fit on the Heavy-Duty, 7-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Socket
Yes, the 7-Pole Rubber Socket Boot, # PK11761, works with 3 of the Pollak heavy duty wiring sockets that we carry. You can use it with part # PK11720 that you mentioned and it can also be used with part # PK12801 and # PK11851. The hole in the back of the boot is just under 7/16 inch and measures .425 with a dial caliper. I produced a short video showing how the boot fits on each item for you.

  • How to Shield the 2-Pole Socket Connector # PK12801 From the Elements
There is not a boot or shield to protect this 2-Pole Socket Connector, part # PK12801, from exposure to elements. I would recommend a generous amount of Electrical Tape, part # BT66, to wrap the terminals and wires to keep out the elements. The # PK11851 Single Pole Round Pin Trailer Connector is designed to deliver power to a trailer. It's not grounded, because the battery on the tow vehicle is already grounded and trailer mounted equipment is usually grounded as well. We had issues with that product so we don't carry it and they don't have a connector available as a separate part. I reached out to them directly to confirm this. The best solar panel in my opinion we carry for cost to function is the Go Power Portable Solar Kit w/ Digital Solar Controller # 34282730 and then you can simply use the 7-Pin Trailer Adapter for Go Power Portable Solar Kit...

  • 2 Pole Wiring Connector Recommendations for Powering Winch on Trailer
That would be a great idea. We don't carry 4 gauge wire, but the # PK12801 2-pole connector would work great for what you are trying to do. For the male connector you would want the part # PK12800. The connectors are rated for up to 200 amps so you will need to make sure your winch doesn't draw more than that.

We sure do! Now to crimp this heavy duty ring terminal on you will need a heavy duty crimper. I recommend the Deka Hammer Crimper # DW05410 which will have no issues crimping a terminal this size. The Pollak # PK11851 is a single pole wiring socket, which would be compatible with a # PK11852 single pole plug The Pollak # PK12801 2-pole socket would be compatible with a 2-pole plug, part # PK12800.

We do not carry the solar connector as Furrion does not make them outside of their pricy briefcase solar panel. My recommendation is to change the ends of both connections to make compatible ends. I recommend the 2-Pole Socket Connector - Vehicle Side # PK12801 which doesn't require any soldering and the 2-Pole Trailer Wiring Connector - Trailer Side # PK12800 which again does not require soldering.
