Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter

To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, and it is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

Video Transcript for Review of CURT Trailer Brake Controller Custom Wiring Adapter - C34GJ

Hi everyone. Steve here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at our CURT Custom Wire Adapter for your trailer brake controllers. It's got a dual plug on it folks. Now this is a custom fit application, so make sure you're checking our fit guide here at etrailer.com. Be sure you get in the right parts the first time.

On our homepage where you see my vehicle or vehicle information, enter things like your make and model, any kind of submodels, things that I've asked for to be sure you're getting the right parts the first time. And if you have any questions or concerns, you can always reach out to us as well for help. Now, this again is a direct plugin adapter. It's two feet long, it's 12 gauge wires inside, and they've got a nice protective wire loom around them to rid damage and destruction. You get two cable ties with it.

This is gonna make simple installation of your electric brake controller again for the CURT, no cutting, no splicing, the ends are custom and they match the built-in port underneath the driver's seat of the Dodge Sprinter and Freightliner Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans. The brake controller must have this built-in plug adapter to connect. It's not gonna work with connectors that have pigtail wired harnesses, so don't be cutting and splicing stuff. Again, it only works with brake controllers that have that built-in plug that matches up to these plugs. It does work with time delayed and proportional brake controllers from CURT as well.

Folks, that is gonna wrap it up for our look together at this CURT custom wiring adapter for your brake controllers. I'm Steven. Thanks for watching.

  • Brake Controller Wiring Harness for 2020 Mercedes Sprinter 3500
Hey Patrick! Where is that connector located? It looks like the factory connector on your Sprinter is under the driver seat. Are you sure it is the right connector? Tekonsha has a wiring harness as well, it uses the exact came connector. Redarc brake controllers like the # RED44FR you looked at are really reliable, and what I recommend the most, but the only option would be to splice in or find the right connector in the vehicle. If you find the one that matches the Curt # C34GJ you have...
