Question:

It's a crew cab high country duramax with a short bed. The in bed gooseneck does have a safety chain hook on either side and had a curt 2 5/16 double lock ball in the hole. I thought it might be curt but I didnt see any names on it so I assumed it was factory.

While we do have other options for you, the only way to use the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500 or # BWRVK3400 is by having the entire B&W Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1016 installed on your 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 as there isn't a way to safely fit different parts of gooseneck hitches together.

With that being said, I'm a little curious about the gooseneck hitch you currently have installed. Reason being that the Chevy factory gooseneck hitch would have needed all of the pucks installed as well so that there would be a place to install the safety chain loops like what comes with the kit # C60692. If you only have the single hole for the hitch ball then it would have to be something aftermarket like the Curt Double Lock # C607-604.

Ultimately you can swap out the pin box on your 5th wheel hitch to a Reese Goose Box like part # RP85FR to tow it with a gooseneck hitch but to get you the best solution it would help to have a picture of your gooseneck hitch as well as the length of your bed and your pin box number (which you should be able to find on a sticker on the pin box itself). If you can get me this info I can recommend the best solution for you.

Thank you for the info! Since you have the Curt Double-Lock Gooseneck Hitch # C607-604 you can either use the Curt 4" Offset Bal # C602 with an adapter like the Ranch Hitch # AM3139 or you can utilize the Curt X5 Adapter Plate # C16210 with a sliding 5th wheel hitch like the Curt A20 # C16541. The Patriot is extremely similar to the B&W Companion but there are some subtle differences in the profile so you unfortunately wouldn't be able to use any components from your Companion to pair with the Patriot (like the heads and bases). If you don't already have a 7-Way in the bed of your Chevy you might also be interested in the Hopkins Endurance # 41157 to make connecting/disconnecting your trailer wiring much easier.
