I needed this tool to take the goose neck hitch off my 5th wheel I put a 3’ cheater bar on it to loosen it and the wrench snapped in have I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone

Comments
Are you the one who originally installed the Ranch Hitch, or did you purchase the 5th wheel with it installed already? I spoke with the folks at Andersen about your difficulties in removing the hitch adapter, and was told that they have never had that happen before. Two men with a 4 foot cheater bar should be able to remove the hitch without too much difficulty unless the previous owner or whoever installed the hitch for you might have spot welded it or bolted it in place without you being aware of it. If you are the one that installed it, and you know for sure there is not any welding or unknown fasteners involved you might have some luck gently and carefully applying heat to the hitch with a torch to get it to expand slightly. This would be what Id consider a last-ditch effort to remove the hitch as heating it could have a negative effect on the composition of the metal and I personally would not feel comfortable reusing it after it was removed.

that spanner wrench that you sent to me does not work, the part that goes in the hole is too big. I don't know if they have different size spanner wrenches or not.

Comments
Please keep in mind this spanner wrench is specifically designed for Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapters. It may not work with other brand adapters.

  • How to Remove the Ranch Hitch Adapter From a 5th Wheel Trailer King Pin
Removal of a Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 is not exactly an easy task. Actually, it will take two strong men with a 4 foot cheater bar. When the adapter is tightened onto the collars system on the king pin the connection is very solid and hard to break. Once the bolts are removed from the trailer pin box, you will need the Spanner Wrench for Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapters, # AM3104, and a 4 foot cheater pipe, along with two full grown men to release...

  • Removing the Ranch Hitch Adapter # AM3100 From a 5th Wheel Trailer King Pin
Along with the flange bolts, the Ranch Hitch Adapter, # AM3100, should also be screwed onto the king pin with a collar system, see attached photo. Once the bolts are removed from the trailer pin box, you will need the Spanner Wrench for Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapters, # AM3104, and a 4 foot cheater pipe, along with two full grown men to release the the adapter from the threaded collar. Initial tightening is done at 1200 foot pounds of torque, or as much torque as two men can generate. Once...

  • How to Remove the Ranch Hitch Adapter From a 5th Wheel Trailer King Pin
You are correct, the Ranch Hitch, # 3100, adapter base does thread onto a collar system, see drawing, comprised of a collar and 2 wedges that fit around and into the recessed portion of the trailers king pin. When the adapter is tightened onto the collars system on the king pin the connection is very solid and hard to break. Once the bolts are removed from the trailer pin box, you will need the Spanner Wrench for Ranch Hitch Coupler Adapters, # AM3104, and a 4 foot cheater pipe, along...

  • Cannot Get Threaded Piece On Ranch Hitch To Loosen To Remove Adapter
The Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter part # AM3100 is screwed onto the king pin with a collar system. Once you have removed the bolts from the side of the adapter, you need the Spanner Wrench part # AM3104 and a 4 foot cheater pipe to release the adapter from the threaded collar. Since the initial installation requires 1200 foot pounds of torque you need more than 1 person to help break the threaded collar loose. Once the adapter is un-threaded, you may need...

  • How to Remove # AM3100 Ranch Hitch Universal 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Coupler Adapter
To remove the Ranch Hitch # AM3100, you'd remove the bolts attaching the flange to the pin box. At that point, use a spanner wrench like part # AM3104 to unscrew the adapter base. Once the base comes off, you'll need a slide hammer like part # AM3103 to push up the threaded collar, at which point the split collets will come out. Then the threaded collar can be slipped off the king pin.

  • How to Remove Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter AM3100
If an adapter like the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 has been in place on a king pin for a good long time, it will tend to want to stay there. The install instructions (step 4) advise to apply plenty of anti-seize grease to the king pin, the split collets and the threaded collar. This step is to make removal easier. If the adapter has been installed for a very long time this grease, if it was applied initially as recommended, may have solidified....
