Can Offset Ranch Hitch be Used with Offset Curt Gooseneck Ball

Published 04/01/2026

Question:

will the ranch hitch with 8inch offset work with the curt above-bed hitch that has a 3inch offset which i already have in my truck. I have measured for the 11inch total offset no interference with my tailgate. I was more worried about being offset 11

Hey Jim, yes the Ranch Hitch # AM3139 will work great with one of the Curt offset gooseneck balls. The offset of both the ball and the Ranch Hitch would give you additional turning clearance like you are looking for. You should note that the offset of the Ranch hitch pivots as you turn so it doesn't exactly stay 11 inches offset to the rear of the vehicle. What truck do you have?

@JimN Nice! My parents had an 04 and an 05 Duramax and I loved those trucks. Yours a short bed? Does your trailer have a tapered nose?

Yes it’s a short bed reason for off set hitch & tapered nose no it does not. It’s a 07 Carriage Compass 36’ long. We completely remodeled the inside. No carpet, added wood grain vinyl flooring throughout, added a kitchen cabinet, new counter top the made and then did an epoxy turned out nice, re- finished the kitchen cabinets. Since we live in South Texas we built in two de- humidifiers bedroom & living area both drain to outside. We kept tract on weight removed and added we are maybe a couple hundred pounds heavier unloaded then factory.

@Jim Right on! If you don't think you'll ever get to point where you need to make a 90 degree turn I think you'll be fine.
