Recommended 4-Way Trailer Wiring and Hitch for a 2017 Buick Envision

Published 09/12/2026

Question:

My wife bought a used 2017 Envision and as far as I know, it wasn't equipped with a factory tow package. Is there a separate factory wiring harness (or plug in ) in a standard Envision or does it require a different plug-in receptacle? Thanks

Hey Bob congrats on your wife getting a new SUV! The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56364 is the correct one for a 2017 Buick Envision. It will provide you with a 4-way connector capable of operating a trailer or accessories lighting functions.

The Curt item # C56364 will plug directly into a factory port behind your driver's side rear tire. It'll be located up near the frame. This kit also comes with two relays that activate the factory port to power the 4-way connector. They'll be installed in the fuse panel on the driver's side of your rear cargo area.

The port Curt item # C56364 plugs into is included on all models of your wife's new SUV regardless of whether or not they came with the tow package. The relays will activate the circuits that power it.

I attached a picture below along with an installation video to help you get the Curt item # C56364 wiring harness installed.

Are you planning on towing a trailer or are you going to be using the wiring harness to power some lights on a bike rack or cargo carrier? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

If you plan on towing a trailer or adding lights to a bike rack or cargo carrier, here are some other parts I recommend:

Trailer Hitch - Curt item # C13292

Mounting Brackets - Mounting Bracket for 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # C42CR and item # C83DR

Ball Mount - Trailer Valet Ball Mount w/ 2" Ball item # TV97ZR

Locking Hitch Pin - etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches item # e98880

Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar - etrailer item # e38FV

Hello Jared, Thank you for the quick reply. I already ordered the hitch and the relays as I suspected that the items were compatible. For my application, I do not anticipate towing a any trailer in the near future, but the possibilty does exist in the future (fairly low probability, and it would be a lightweight, but I don't rule it out). As to the auxillary lighting, I envisioned using the 4-wire adapter and the running light circuit to power low intensity lights (and additional brake lights) for the luggage carrier as needed or desired. Thanks Again, Bob J

@BobJ You're welcome! You'll definitely be ready to go if you ever get a chance to tow a trailer. If you would like a recommendation for lights I would just need to know what kind of cargo carrier you have.
