Question:
My friend has a 2020 Jeep Cherokee no tow package. She bought a 2 axle trailer w/brakes. Can you tell me what she needs to wire her vehicle to run the brakes and lights? Thank You

I sure can Kevin! For your friend to use her 2020 Jeep Cherokee to tow a trailer with brakes, she'll need the following parts:
4-Way Wiring Harness - Curt T-Connector with 4-Way item # C56406
7-Way Wiring Harness - Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7
Brake Controller - Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness item # RED52VR
I linked installation videos below for the wiring harnesses so you can see how to get them installed. You will need both the 4-way and the 7-way. I also attached a couple of wiring diagrams so you can see how to get the item # ETBC7 installed along with the Redarc Tow-Pro item # RED52VR.
What kind of trailer did your friend get and does she also need a hitch and ball mount? I through in recommendations for both below incase she does.
You can add this information, along with any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.
Hitch - etrailer Hitch item # e73ZR
Ball mount - etrailer Ball Mount 2-5/16" Ball item # e27DR or item # e67DR for one with a 2" hitch ball.

I would use the Curt Echo wireless brake controller and skip all the time and cost of the wired setup. A 7- way plug must be installed on the Jeep. The trailer needs a 7-way plug, too, and it likely already has that for the brakes.

I highly recommend the Curt wireless Bluetooth brake controller, very easy to use and set up. No confusing wiring or installation, your phone becomes the controller in the vehicle. The only thing the vehicle needs is a 7-way plug installed; this unit plugs into that plug, then the trailer wire attaches to it. A few suggestions during use: Have a sturdy phone mount in the vehicle within easy sight and reach of the driver. Use an old smartphone as the controller so you’re not using your everyday phone. I use an old iPhone 6 with Bluetooth capability, so it stays in the truck all connected and ready. Store the controller securely between trailer trips, I lost one somewhere along the way, I suspect during a truck service visit.

@Kevin, I would seriously consider the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller. I used to swear by the wired controllers, but after going wireless, it's much easier. I'm on Android and have had no issues. I can't speak for the Apple app version.
