2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid Hitch Comparison: etrailer e98848 vs EcoHitch EH25KR Kick Sensor & Fit Explai

Updated 04/30/2026 | Published 04/26/2026

Question:

what is the difference between this model and the 98848 hitch for a 26 crv hybrid sport touring. do they both install and function ok, or will the less expensive hitch not work for some reason? the online answers vary in terms of kick sensor operation between these 2 so clarity would be helpful there as well. thanks!

Hi Rob, both the etrailer hitch part # e98848 and the EcoHitch part # EH25KR will install and function properly on your 2026 CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring, so you’re not risking choosing a hitch that won’t work.

Both hitches use a hidden cross tube and require a small trim in the lower fascia, and on the Touring model that also means disconnecting and working around the kick sensor module to make that cut, which can take a little extra time and patience since it’s tucked up in there. Once everything is reinstalled, the sensor still works but it typically won’t respond directly in the center anymore and instead works better slightly off to one side. That’s going to be the case with either hitch, and I wasn’t able to find any consistent feedback in forums suggesting that one performs better than the other when it comes to the kick sensor.

If you want a more natural kick response, you can relocate the sensor slightly during install. Since you already have it disconnected to trim the fascia, many installers will shift it a bit to one side of the hitch or adjust the angle downward so it’s not blocked by the cross tube. That usually restores a more consistent activation zone instead of having to find a sweet spot every time. Honda does offer a relocation kit for the kick sensor as well, which can help position it more cleanly.

The EcoHitch sits about an inch further out, which can help a bit with clearance for certain accessories like bike racks, while the etrailer hitch sits closer to the bumper for a cleaner look. If you don’t specifically need that extra clearance, the etrailer hitch is the better value and the one I’d confidently recommend for most setups, especially since the matte finish also does a nice job of holding up over time.

I know the last thing you want is to pick the wrong hitch and end up fighting the sensor or redoing anything, and both of these options keep things solid as long as you’re prepared for that slight change in how the sensor is triggered which is the same for all the options for the Honda CR-V.

What will you be hauling most often, e bikes, a cargo carrier, or camping gear?

I thought the installation, though a bit more time consuming than most I’ve done, was very straightforward and the instructions were good. It is very heavy duty and fits upsell behind the bodywork. The relocation of 5he hands free tailgate worked perfectly.

@TomA really appreciate you sharing that! Also really good to know the hands-free tailgate relocation worked out perfectly for you because that’s always one of the biggest concerns going into this install. What are you using the hitch for?
