Can a 2026 Honda CR-V Flush Rail Roof Rack be Adjusted Along the Roof?

Updated 12/18/2025 | Published 08/10/2025

Question:

I have a 2026 Honda CRV with dealer installed flush side rails and cross bars. The cross bars can only be mounted in one location. It seems like after market crossbars would also mount in the same fixed location. Do you have any other crossbar options that would work with the side rails but can also be mounted in other locations? I realize this was an option with a naked roof. Thank you.

Hey Matt, thanks for reaching out!

The only time crossbars can be adjusted on a vehicle is when it has raised rails or multiple mounting points built into the frame. Since your 2026 Honda CR-V is only available with flush rails or a naked roof the crossbars would be fixed either way, and I think you made the better choice by going with the flush rails.

For your setup I recommend the Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack # TH24QG for a few reasons; not only does it look sleeker than most other options on the market, but it's also a lot easier to install than most on the market.

Do you have a specific roof accessory you're needing a different crossbar spread for?

Jon Thank you for the response. I am looking for some roof rack accessory recommendations to use with my 2023 Honda CRV with fac tory rails and crossbars. What roof box would work on this vehicle without interfering with the trunk opening fully? I'm looking for the larger options. What ski rack would work on this vehicle to fit skis up to size190 without interfering with the trunk opening fully? I currently have an old Thule Atlantis 1800 roof box that worked perfectly for all my needs on previous vehicles. I'm thinking I may need to get a ski rack for winter and a slightly smaller roof box for my other needs. Thank you! Matt M

@MattM Thanks for the additional insight! Is your Thule Atlantis 1800 too large for the 2023 CR-V? Something like the Yakima SkyBox NX 16 # Y95AV could be a great alternative, but we need to make sure you have at least 47" from the center of the front crossbar position to the line where your roof and the hatch meet. Would you be able to get that measurement for me? The SkyBox NX 16 is 36" wide. You might be able to fit the Rhino-Rack Ski and Fishing Rod Carrier # RR572 with the box, but this carrier is 15-3/4" wide and I don't think your crossbars will have enough real estate to fit both. Were you thinking both at the same time?

Thank you Jon My current Thule Atlantis 1800 only allows the trunk to open half way. I will do some measuring to see if the Yakima NX 16 would work better. I see the Yakima CBX Large only requires 45" of space but costs much more than the NX 16. I will NOT need to use a roof box and a ski rack at the same time. I will need to carry 4 - 5 sets of skis. I'm just concerned that if I load my skis with the tails facing the front, as recommended, my longer 190 skis will interfere with the trunk opening. Matt M

@MattM The Yakima CBX LG # Y63QD is in their premium lineup which is why it has a higher price-point.

@JonG Was there a solution found for this? I have the same issue for the 2026 Honda CRV.

Sal The only options are 1 - get a smaller roofbox or 2 - when using the roof box, set the rear hatch height so it does not open too far and hit the roof box. Not ideal, but this is what I do. This also works for a ski rack. Matt M
