Hello, I am thinking about getting an electric jack for my 20-foot horse trailer. It does not have an on-board battery. I am wondering if you can wire a 7 plug onto the jack wiring and plug it into the tow vehicle. My trailer has a 4000lb tongue weight

Hey Matt. You can indeed power a electric tongue jack off of your tow vehicle's 7-way connector since you don't have a battery. I recommend the etrailer Electric Trailer Jack w/ 7-Way item # e74GV. This jack has a 5,000 lbs capacity and provides up to a 22-1/2" lift with the included drop leg.

The etrailer Electric Trailer Jack w/ 7-Way item # e74GV fits a standard a-frame bolt pattern. I have this product and I live it I don't have to break my back jacking my trailer up anymore and it plugs right into my 7 way trailer plug on my truck hope this helps you.

I use my jack on a 26 ft equipment trailer. Love it ! No more cranking forever I have considered putting an on board battery on the trailer. But the cord the jack came with works just fine connecting to my truck.

I installed this electric jack on a 20 foot travel trailer. Because my 7-way on my pickup did not have 12-volt power except for lights and brakes I had to run power to the plug. This required 10 gauge wire, piggy back fuse and a relay. Remember not to collapse the jack too far. It may bind up. There’s a warning sticker to prevent this.

Bought the jack for my 32' toy hauler. Previous jack was rated 3000 pounds. When it needed to be replaced I got the 5000 pound unit to maybe be a little faster (not sure it is). The jack comes with a 7-way plug already wired in (with a storage holder for the plug). I removed the plug and wired the jack into my existing trailer plug. I did not know that was why they called it a 7-way jack when I bought it - might have been cheaper to get one without the plug. I can see that the plug attached to the jack wiring might be handy in some cases, but if you already use a 7-way plug on your trailer you have to unplug it so you can plug in the jack plug. And if you use the trailer with a vehicle without a 7-way plug (like to move it around the lot) you have no way to use the jack.
